The Ferns Care Home

Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5
Ferns staff and management have been unable to consistently assist my mother to make video calls as I live in the USA. This was a criteria used to select this care facility over a year ago. Whilst I know my mother is well cared for at the Ferns and I know the staff are well intended, they clearly
lack the ability to enact this important element of my mothers care plan. The Ferns team and I have made multiple efforts and plans to resolve this. Some plans have been sustained for two weeks, but inevitably communication in the team breaks down and the communication problems resume. I have pointed out that UK healthcare law very precisely states that facilitation of communication between residents and family is an obligation for the assisted living team. Again to no avail.
I recognize this is a bit of a unique situation, although I would caution that many seniors experience difficulty initiating and receiving communication from family, which is why it is specified in the law.

My dad initially came to Kingsfield for 2 weeks respite. The Manager who came initially to visit me and my Dad at his home was amazing. Made me feel so positive about putting dad into respite and reassured me. And was fantastic with him.

Since then my dad has become a regular resident. He has settled

so well, and the care staff are brilliant with Dad and with me! He loves the 2 chef's who work their magic, and enjoys the varied selection of foods on offer.

He enjoys the singing and dancing and other activities. We are also welcomed with open arms when we visit and any issues promptly discussed and sorted.

I feel like it has become my second home aswell.

Reply from Kim Rogerson, Director at Kingsfield Residential Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share such a lovely review.
We are delighted to hear that your dads initial respite stay at Kingsfield gave you such reassurance and that this positive experience led to him becoming a permanent resident. It means a great deal to us that our Manager and team were able to support you both from the very first visit and help make what can be a difficult decision feel so much easier.
It is wonderful to know that your dad has settled so well, enjoys the care and companionship, and especially loves the delicious food prepared by our chefs. Were also so pleased that he takes part in the singing, dancing and activities, and that you always feel welcomed and supported when you visit.
To hear that Kingsfield now feels like a second home to you as well is truly heart-warming. Thank you for your kind words and trust in our team they will mean a great deal to everyone involved in your dads care.

From our first meeting all the staff have shown kindness, knowledge of their role, that encourages confidence for us that dad will be cared for. Their interest in dad as a person and his life has helped him feel settled and cared for. We have always been made to feel welcome too. We cannot speak too
highly of management in now welcoming mum and making all things possible. Staff have dealt efficiently with dad's health care and keeping us notified. From my observations all the residents are treated with respect. Placing your parents of 101 and 96 years of age in a home could have been more difficult, but has been made easier in the knowledge they are safe, and well cared for as people and together.
Reply from Kim Rogerson, Director at Inglewood (Cumbria) LtdThank you so much for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful and heartfelt review.
We are truly honoured that you entrusted us with the care of both your mum and dad, and we are delighted to hear that they have felt safe, respected and well cared for together. Your kind words about our staffs compassion, professionalism and genuine interest in your dad as a person mean a great deal, as building meaningful relationships is at the heart of everything we do.
It is also lovely to know that you and your family have felt welcomed and kept well informed, and that the support from our management team has helped make what can be a very emotional transition feel easier.
Thank you again for your trust and for sharing your experience. Your comments will be shared with the whole team, who will be very proud to know the difference they are making.

The room was lovely and well laid out which was great. All of the staff were very friendly and made us feel welcomed. The manager Julie was lovely and grandad adored her! It was lovely to be able to bring my daughter and dog to see him too! Its wonderful knowing he is being so well looked after.

The manager, manages The Ferns so well, always ready to listen, help, advise and put in action. My dad has been at The Ferns from Oct 24 and still lives here. The staff always welcoming, cleanliness second to none, food really is outstanding. Every room is clean, tidy and enviting. Staff are smartly
dressed, professional and welcoming. Dad is deteriorating in health and mental state, alterations are made to adhere to his every need. He is so happy at The Ferns.
Reply from Kim Rogerson, Director at The Ferns Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share your experience of The Ferns. We are truly grateful for your kind words.
It means a great deal to hear your appreciation for our manager and team. Listening, supporting, and acting promptly are central to how we care, and were so pleased this has been reflected in your dads experience. Our staff work hard to maintain a welcoming atmosphere, high standards of cleanliness, and delicious, nutritious food, so your feedback will mean a lot to them.
We understand how difficult it can be to see a loved ones health change, and were glad you feel reassured by the adjustments weve made to support your dads needs. Knowing he is happy and comfortable at The Ferns is incredibly important to us.
Thank you again for your trust and kind words.
