St. George’s is a high quality home located in the centre of of Millom which exudes peace and tranquillity, whilst being immediately and conveniently adjacent to the town centre.

The rooms are tastefully decorated to a high standard, with en-suite facilities. The home actively encourage residents to personalise their rooms with photographs, ornaments and furniture to create a familiar environment.

Offering an extensive range of specialist equipment to cater for particular needs and occupational therapists are available as required. Activities and entertainment are an important part of life at the home. A hairdresser visits the home regularly for any resident who wishes to use the service. They have a programme of daily activities which includes: baking, hand massages and manicures, quizzes, games and much, much more.

Always feel welcome staff are excellent communicators and ring me if any issues etc. Facilities are excellent, very clean. Entertainment for residents is excellent. St Georges is an excellent care facility. I would recommend it to anyone.

St George's is not a care home it is a home from home and I have seen on every visit that all of the residents are treated with kindness & respect. It's a lovely place to visit. The atmosphere is fun and they arrange so much for the residents to do such as animal visits, making things, gardening, activity
day & outings. I always laugh that he has more going on in his day than I do in mine. It's a wonderful place x

The home is great. Since she arrived her overall health and wellbeing has improved significantly. The home and all the staff are fantastic. They have gone out of their way to make her welcome and comfortable. The activities and entertainment are so good. On arrival she was very unwell - now she is very
well. As a point of improvement, it would be good if self funding residents are provided with full ensuite facilities, this is proportionate to the cost per month (in my opinion). Keep up the fantastic service.

My dad had 2 weeks of respite care, he was slightly apprehensive before going in, but from the minute he walked in was made to feel very welcome!
The premises were very clean, comfortable and bright. Nothing was a trouble for the staff.
When Dad returned home we asked if he would be happy to go back
again, it was better than he expected, his answer was yes!

My mother came into St George's Residential Home for 2 weeks respite care but both my mother, myself and brothers were that impressed she decided she'd like to make the move permanent.

Every member of staff are caring, compassionate and empathetic. They all made me feel welcome and communicate with me all the time. They have been an absolute godsend and the care they have shown both of us is excellent. I will always be eternally grateful to every single one of them including cleaners
and volunteers also. They all have a natural gift with all the residents especially the confused with dementia. Even though it's a challenging job, thus always have a smile on their face. I feel at ease knowing everyone at St George's Care Home. All staff.
Thank you for everything you have done for me any mu mum. Will always be eternally grateful and really appreciate it. Every member of staff has been caring, compassionate and engaging with all of us. None of you lose your patience. Such a challenging job and you are all cheerful even if you are having a tough day. I have seen how you all engage with residents and make them feel at home. Most of residents are very confused and the skills you all use are a gift, you either have it or you don't and all staff I have seen have. Everyone of you has been so patient, gentle and empathetic and encouraged my mum. Always feel welcome when I visit and see for my self that she is well cared for which puts me at ease. Also, thank you for doing things like bringing animals in, doing arts and crafts, people who play music and people who bring school children in. Thank you to the volunteers who spend time with my mum and other volunteers who play games and interact with Mum. I also want to thank you to the cleaners for keeping the home clean and for serving the lunches.
You all work well as a team and should know you are all valued. Thank you to all of you for communicating with each other and other professionals and especially my mum and me. Thank you to the manager for tunning such a fantastic home for residents you should be proud of your team. Thank you for everything. I wish you all the best and wishing everyone of you good health now and in the coming year.
Please take care everyone and thanks so much for letting me have a break and the support I was shown when I was so unwell.

Everyone at St George's Residential Home has been very kind to my Mum and has gone out of their way to care for her. She likes to take part in the activities that are organised (and enjoys herself at the D-Day celebrations). I am kept fully informed about how my Mum is doing.

On first arrival, we were greeted by one of the members of staff. After initial introductions, my sister & I were invited into the Manager's office while Mum was invited to go down and have a cup of tea. While in the office we were given a full explanation of how the home was run. This included all
the safety aspects that the home ran. We were encouraged to ask questions or raise any matters that we were unsure of.
Following this meeting, my sister & I were given a full tour of the home and its grounds. This was very good (as my sister & I left we both commented 1) how clean the home was 2) the friendliness of the staff 3) we had made the right choice.
We finalised any remaining paperwork and prepared to leave after a final chat with Mum. She seemed quite content, the staff reassured us they would keep a close eye on her, with it being her first night.
As we left the home I said it's very good, I will be booking myself in next - we had a laugh.

Mum has been a resident of St George's for three and a half years and in that time her general health and well-being have improved dramatically. The level of care and attention the residents receive is excellent and the activities that are organised are engaging and fun. Recently Mum went on a trip
to Ravenglass with a trip on Lal Ratty which she enjoyed thoroughly and we were visiting recently when a folk group were playing which again really cheered Mum up. We are regularly contacted to ensure that we have no concerns about Mum's care and are always contacted immediately should there be an issue with Mum's health in any way. Mum always tells us how good the food is and how well cared for she is when we are visiting. Mum feels safe both physically and psychologically which is a great comfort to us.

I have only ever seen the staff behaving in a kind and respectful manner. My mother tells me they are all kind to her.
At a meeting for the residents and relatives, we were encouraged to ask questions and received satisfactory answers. Suggestions are also welcome. Where activities are concerned, a
good effort is made to try to remember the abilities of each resident and include each one, sometimes on an individual basis such as a simple trip to the sea and an ice cream. All the staff are approachable and I am kept informed of my mum's health.
The star rating for food and safety is because I am only there during visiting hours so I cannot comment on outside of those hours.

My mum moved into St George’s in December 2023 aged 91. Such a big change can be very unsettling for many people but the staff did everything they could to help Mum settle into her new surroundings. She was allocated a nice room with dual-aspect windows and her own toilet. There are two nice lounges
for her to watch TV or she can do so in her own room. Staff are attentive to her needs and keep in regular contact with me if required and when they undertake reviews of her care plan. There are regular activities for residents to take part in. Mum feels very safe and contented in St George’s which of course is a great comfort to us her family.

My mother came for 2 weeks of respite everyone was very caring and looked after her well. The food must have been good as she gained a little weight which was needed. Mother enjoyed it so much I think she will be back in the near future.

My overall impression is that of a caring and supportive environment for my relative. I'm always made aware of any health issues and they are treated accordingly. My wife does not want to be in the care home; she wanted to be at home. I want her home; she feels like a prisoner, unable to get to Church or do her pastimes or hobbies. Her only protest she feels she can make is to receive medications, meals and fluids.

Before Covid my assessments here fully express my true opinion of this very well-run home. In the difficult Covid period it has been difficult for everyone involved, but the home has maintained its high standards, especially with regard to communication issues. We were kept well informed of my relative's

Gemma has a wide range of experience and knowledge from her 18 years in the care sector, previously working with issues such as mental health, Korsakoffs, physically frail, younger adults and special care needs.


Her previous ambition of becoming a nurse set her on her career in care and fell in love with the elderly. She worked from the age of 18 as a Health Care Assistant and was quickly promoted to Senior Health Care Assistant until she was promoted again to Deputy Manager. Stepping up to Acting Manager early in 2023 she has been a significant support not only to the residents and family members but also to the staff. Making continuous improvements within the home she constantly goes above and beyond for everyone.
