Reviews

9.8 Moorlands has a Review Score of 9.8 (9.756)

The Review Score of 9.8 (maximum of 10) for Moorlands is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 15 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Moorlands in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.756 for Moorlands is calculated as follows: ( (137 Excellents x 5) + (42 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 180 Ratings = 4.756

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Moorlands is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 3.8 positive Reviews (19 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 6 Reviews ÷ 3.8 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

A family run business where nothing is too much for the carers- they always treat the residents with respect and warmth, always having time to just chat. They are always smiling and cheerful with residents and visitors alike. A range of activities are provided to entertain the residents- from games evenings to film afternoons, singing groups and even a Shetland pony visit! Services including hairdressing and nail painting are available for the resident's convenience.
Families and residents are involved in discussions and decision-making, everything is a mutual decision.
Medical care is extremely well handled and organised with each resident having their own care file. Medications always being distributed efficiently. As well as their health concerns, the residents overall well-being and happiness are extremely important, and the family, resident and carers have a monthly review to discuss how everything is going and to raise any concerns.
Food is tasty and everybody's choices are catered for.

Greg Smith, General Manager at Moorlands responded to this review on 24 Feb 2017:

Thank you, Sarah for your kind words. We're glad you feel this way.

My brother-in-law has been resident at Moorlands for almost two years. He had been in very poor health, physically and mentally for several years, and was not capable of taking care of himself, and indeed did not want to take care of himself. His health had deteriorated to a worrying state. The manager and her team made him welcome, and the care they provided worked wonders. The staff really do care. The improvement in him was dramatic. The staff are always welcoming when you visit and are always up to speed with how he is doing. I made a point of looking at catering facilities, and at food deliveries when they coincided with my visits. The food is fresh, wholesome and well prepared by the catering team. Portions are very good as well. While Moorlands may not be a highly polished modern ‘palace’, it is homely with excellent caring staff, which is perhaps more important to residents and their relatives. For their standard of care, I think that Moorlands would be very hard to beat.

Greg Smith, General Manager at Moorlands responded to this review on 22 Feb 2017:

Thank you for your kind words, that is exactly what Moorlands is about, the care. I hope we can continue to provide your family with the care they deserve!

My Nana has been a resident at Moorlands for nearly two years. We moved her after she received poor service at another local care home. We had originally chosen the other care home as it was slightly more modern in decor, however, after the move, Moorlands has proved that their high standards of care far surpass the majority of places. There are always staff on hand who know what's going on and their knowledge is the same for each individual. The staff are friendly and make it easy for families to enjoy spending time with their loved ones. During Christmas and birthdays, the place is jolly and festive and all residents are involved. Couldn't recommend a place more.

Thank you so much for your review. We are glad you feel that way and hope to continue to provide you with a high-quality service.

Moorlands has a wonderful, warm atmosphere which feels more like a home than a residential care centre. The owners and staff are kind and caring with the patience of saints.
The activities they plan are fun and uplifting for all the residence.
We are very happy that my aunt is so well loved and cared for.

My grandad entered Moorlands initially for respite care after a fall and a broken wrist, meaning he couldn't manage at home. From the moment he arrived I noticed that all the staff actually CARE! They also promote independence, which for my grandad was extremely important, the fact he could do as he pleased. It gives us great peace of mind that I know that everyone in there is friendly, approachable and helpful and would go above and beyond the job description to help the residents. The staff are amazing at keeping the atmosphere as energetic and friendly as possible and the fact we are welcome to go at any time and made to feel welcome is lovely. I can't recommend this home highly enough.

Excellent care, nothing is too much trouble to the staff. Home cooked food and tea/coffee available at all times to residents and staff. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. Lots of entertainment is provided to keep residents happy. The building is old and therefore does not have modern straight walls and square rooms, but has its own character which all adds to the experience. Well recommended 5* plus.

My wife has been in residence at Moorlands for 2 years now. I cannot praise the management and staff at Moorlands enough. My wife is cared for in a sympathetic and professional way, to a standard I could not hope to match. I am welcomed to visit at any time, for as long as I like. As I said in my first review the peace of mind this gives is priceless.

I cannot express my gratitude to the Manager all the team for the wonderful caring way they have looked after my Dad for the past 14 months. From day one we were treated with respect and compassion and from the very first night I relaxed knowing he was safe, well looked after and cared for in a way that you would only think possible by family not care home staff. He was so unhappy at his respite care and not managing at home with other outside care providers I dint think there was a hope to make him happy and regain some of his health and mental well being. But he has despite his advancing medical issues improved physically and mentally. Doubly incontinent and thin on arrival last March he has no incontinence issues and is very well nourished on the excellent food prepared by Ashley and the team. Within weeks I saw him laughing and content with the world; a sight that I had not seen in more than 10 years. He loves having his cat with him and they care for her too.

My mother was a resident at Moorlands for six years until her death in November 2015. Her care during those years, by all staff at Moorlands, was totally first class. When my mother had to go into residential care she was so fortunate to have placed in such a caring, nurturing, warm, welcoming and loving environment. Nothing was too much trouble for the team to ensure her mental and physical comfort and well being. The home also provided a wide range of stimulating activities - something to suit all.
I live a good 250 miles away and I always had the peace of mind that my mother was safe and loved.

The care provided to my mother has been second to none. The staff at Moorlands are fantastic. They're caring, compassionate and always welcoming when you visit. They keep you up to date with any problems and are always ready to listen if you have any concerns. There is often entertainment for the residents, a great favourite being the hatching eggs. I have always felt the care provided to my mum is tailored to her needs and is excellent. Mum is treated with dignity and respect. Moorlands also provided domiciliary care for my mother in her own home, before it became necessary to mover her into residential care. This was also excellent. I am grateful to them all for looking after my mum so well and would have no hesitation in recommending them to any one. Thank you to you all.

Friendly and caring staff and managers, the home has a family atmosphere that can be felt in entering the building and a 'homely' feeling. The rooms are personalised for each resident making it a home from home. The staff treat the residents with dignity and respect and are always on hand to provide support to visitors

Moorlands is a family run care home, the staff and residents are like a big extended family which is a vibe first felt when you enter. The staff treat all the residents with great dignity and go out of their way to do everything they can to make their residents house, a home! I think it's great that they are open to letting pets come in with new residents to make their transition into their new environment as easy and comfortable as possible. There are always good activities going on such as singers, magicians and plays, at Easter they get eggs and an incubator in for the chicks to hatch, they often have Shetland ponies in too. There's a 'Boycey's' evening, which is a three course a la carte menu and the residents/staff dress formally and all funds raised go towards the residents and different trips, such as the beach, the theater etc. The food and actual facilities are also great for value, with a different menu given out daily! I would definitely recommend Moorlands.

I am General manager here and have been a part of Moorlands family since I was knee high to a grass hopper cutting the grass and entertaining the residents. Now my duties include……..cutting the grass and entertaining the residents! Ha ha.
When I left college I went travelling to Australia, New Zealand, Singapore & Malaysia which I enjoyed so much I seem to mention at every opportunity, so much so it has become a standing joke with Natalie and my family.
Natalie is my wife and we have been married since 16th June 2013. We got married at Headlam hall and it was the best day of my life. We live together with our dog (baby) Ruby. We love going on holidays and my favourite of all being when we went on our cruise to the Caribbean.
I am a very easy going and happy person (most of the time) and would like to think I get along with most people. I enjoy formula one and would love to go and see a grand prix as I have only ever watched them on the television. I also enjoy partying with friends, walking the dog and listening to music.
My normal working days are Monday to Friday 9-6 however I can usually be found around the place doing something at some point over the weekend.
