Overall Experience

From the outset the staff at Riverside House were friendly, warm and welcoming. My mother was anxious about her respite stay, but the staff's reassurance and kind welcome soon settled her. The meals were a huge hit with my mum! The range of activities were varied and staff enabled Mum to take part. Overall, an excellent experience for her and peace of mind for me!

My mum has been at Riverside for the past four years, and although she was reluctant to go into a care home, she has been the happiest she has been for a long time. The staff were always kind, caring, engaging and ready to have a laugh. She felt happy and at home. The activities are broad and inclusive and help to stimulate all the residents rather than leave them sitting in chairs and bored all day. They received a well-deserved award for the activities recently.

I thank them all for making my mum’s last few years as happy as they could.

Dad (eighty-four) moved in here following a stroke which left him immobile. His prognosis was not good.
Three months later he is walking, his memory has improved and best of all he has made lots of new friends.
He is happier now than he has been in a very long time.

The staff are super friendly and treat Dad with respect and care.

My wife is very well looked after by the caring staff. Her overall well-being has improved during the time she has been a resident. The reason I chose this home was because of its excellent rating and the fact an excellent activities manager was in post 5 days per week. I cannot stress the importance of the well-being of the residents of the activities he does an excellent job exercising their minds.

Overall, I am very happy with the care my mum receives. The carers are very kind and helpful and go out of their way to encourage my mum to join in things and make her happy. My mum has had two serious choking episodes and they literally saved her life. It gives me peace of mind knowing my mum is safe and well looked after. The home has a friendly, welcoming feel to it and it feels like one happy family there. Well done Riverside and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to people for their loved ones.

My father was in this care home 2 years ago and the staff were excellent so I didn't hesitate to get my mym here and she loves it. The standard of care is so good and it is a high comfort to the family to know she gets the best care with stimulating activities.

Overall Experience

Overall staff are extremely good and caring towards residents. They demonstrate understanding, and empathy towards individuals and know when to step back and allow a resident to have his/her lead. We always get a phone call to alert us of a fall which is great. Staff cope well with lots of different relatives phoning and understand the importance of keeping us all involved. Always willing to enable a visit where possible. Yes - there are problems with mixing up of clothes and owners but I recognise the difficulties caused by dementia. Presentation of food is sometimes lacking. Offering a cuppa to visitors is very welcome and makes us feel involved.

Since my mother arrived at Riverside House I have found the place to be clean and comfortable and a safe environment. She seems to be quite settled and I am more than happy with the way the staff treat her (with dignity). I would have no problem recommending the place to anyone who was thinking of sending a loved one there.

This is a lovely care home. We have just visited, and it was clean, and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. We took Mum into the garden, which is well laid out and well kept, also the bird feeders were filled. A member of staff brought a wheelchair for Mum and was very helpful. Mum’s room was clean, and the things she needed were available. Mum says she likes the food and the selection she is given. She also likes doing activities, which seem interesting and varied and tells me about what she has done. The staff are so kind and caring towards Mum, and have a laugh with her which she likes. They are very helpful when I phone to speak to Mum or to ask anything. The manager is very caring, knowledgeable and helpful and always responds to anything I ask. The atmosphere is very good, and I’m very happy that Mum is being cared for here.

The staff are very friendly, professional and welcoming. Activities really good, food reportedly excellent. My queries are always responded to and the who place seems caring and really has residents at heart.

Very covid conscious - very reassuring.

Mum moved in about a year ago and after a couple of months, she was at "home" and accepted the idea of living in a care home. Wi-Fi is important, but unfortunately not working now - restricting contact with the family!

Reply from Julie Roper, Manager at Riverside House

Thank you for your review, we appreciate those who take the time to provide feedback. We have had on going issue's with our WI-FI due to our location, this has been incredibly frustrating. However this is being looked into as we speak and we will keep you updated with the progress.

If I could move my Grandmother somewhere else I would. Staff are rude, antagonistic, and obstructive. One member of staff shouted at me and another family member in front of residents. This was in relation to this member of staff allowing my Grandmother to spend money she did not have when we’d repeatedly asked her not to. She continued to demand we supplied money. My Grandmother sustained an injury in which no members of staff contacted us and they will now not tell us what happened or what protocols should have been taken. On our last visit, a staff member slipped up and told us we should have been filling out a Covid questionnaire every visit and that was the first time we had seen one in twelve months. After the verbal abuse on one visit, our PPI was not checked and we entered with no access to gloves. Appalling.

My stay for almost three weeks was so lovely. Both the staff and fellow residents were kind and incredibly welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble - all my care and needs were attended promptly and efficiently - always with a smile and kindness! I shall never forget my stay here and would recommend Riverside House over and over again.

My Mother has been a resident at the home for 7 years, where she has been cared for with love but especially during the difficult months of COVID. The staff are brilliant and will always go above and beyond to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents. It is difficult not being able to visit, so I appreciate the efforts of staff to keep in touch with video calls and the Facebook page. I know she is in very good hands. Thank you.
