Situated on the picturesque banks of the River Wansbeck, Riverside House offers a tranquil setting with a substantial garden area, providing a peaceful retreat for residents. For those traveling by car, ample parking is available in the dedicated car park.

The home boasts 46 well-appointed en-suite bedrooms, complete with Wi-Fi access and accessibility features for both residents and visitors. Additionally, a person-centred activities program is designed, with events and experiences tailored to the interests of residents, ensuring they lead fulfilling and engaging lives.

At Riverside House, residents on a residential basis benefit from individualised care led by a dedicated Senior Carer. Working closely with the resident and their family, a comprehensive care plan is tailored to meet their unique needs. Additionally, residents have access to the community-based healthcare team, including their GP and District Nurses, ensuring holistic care and support.

Overall, I am very happy with the care my mum receives. The carers are very kind and helpful and go out of their way to encourage my mum to join in things and make her happy. My mum has had two serious choking episodes and they literally saved her life. It gives me peace of mind knowing my mum is safe
and well looked after. The home has a friendly, welcoming feel to it and it feels like one happy family there. Well done Riverside and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to people for their loved ones.

My father was in this care home 2 years ago and the staff were excellent so I didn't hesitate to get my mym here and she loves it. The standard of care is so good and it is a high comfort to the family to know she gets the best care with stimulating activities.

Overall staff are extremely good and caring towards residents. They demonstrate understanding, and empathy towards individuals and know when to step back and allow a resident to have his/her lead. We always get a phone call to alert us of a fall which is great. Staff cope well with lots of different
relatives phoning and understand the importance of keeping us all involved. Always willing to enable a visit where possible. Yes - there are problems with mixing up of clothes and owners but I recognise the difficulties caused by dementia. Presentation of food is sometimes lacking. Offering a cuppa to visitors is very welcome and makes us feel involved.

Since my mother arrived at Riverside House I have found the place to be clean and comfortable and a safe environment. She seems to be quite settled and I am more than happy with the way the staff treat her (with dignity). I would have no problem recommending the place to anyone who was thinking of sending
a loved one there.

This is a lovely care home. We have just visited, and it was clean, and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. We took Mum into the garden, which is well laid out and well kept, also the bird feeders were filled. A member of staff brought a wheelchair for Mum and was very helpful. Mum’s room was
clean, and the things she needed were available. Mum says she likes the food and the selection she is given. She also likes doing activities, which seem interesting and varied and tells me about what she has done. The staff are so kind and caring towards Mum, and have a laugh with her which she likes. They are very helpful when I phone to speak to Mum or to ask anything. The manager is very caring, knowledgeable and helpful and always responds to anything I ask. The atmosphere is very good, and I’m very happy that Mum is being cared for here.

Mum moved in about a year ago and after a couple of months, she was at "home" and accepted the idea of living in a care home. Wi-Fi is important, but unfortunately not working now - restricting contact with the family!

If I could move my Grandmother somewhere else I would. Staff are rude, antagonistic, and obstructive. One member of staff shouted at me and another family member in front of residents. This was in relation to this member of staff allowing my Grandmother to spend money she did not have when we’d repeatedly
asked her not to. She continued to demand we supplied money. My Grandmother sustained an injury in which no members of staff contacted us and they will now not tell us what happened or what protocols should have been taken. On our last visit, a staff member slipped up and told us we should have been filling out a Covid questionnaire every visit and that was the first time we had seen one in twelve months. After the verbal abuse on one visit, our PPI was not checked and we entered with no access to gloves. Appalling.

My Mother has been a resident at the home for 7 years, where she has been cared for with love but especially during the difficult months of COVID. The staff are brilliant and will always go above and beyond to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents. It is difficult not being able to visit, so

My father went to Riverside House following a few weeks in hospital. Prior to that he had been living in sheltered housing but was struggling to cope as he became more frail.
The staff have been wonderful from the very start, welcoming my father and also my sister and I. I have never known such a
cheerful, enthusiastic group of people, but they combine it with professionalism and respect at all times.
Within two or three weeks of Dad arriving we entered lockdown due to Covid-19. The staff have gone above and beyond to maintain contact for families and residents and are always happy to provide an update over the telephone (my father is very deaf so it isn't possible for me to video call or even speak to him on the phone). Riverside House have provided me with a peace of mind I wouldn't have had if Dad had still been in sheltered housing.

Mum was admitted to the home on Boxing Day after a difficult 7-hour journey from London. She was immediately welcomed and supported from then until now through a difficult transition. Staff at the home are at all times friendly, kind and supportive to her and her family. Thank you to them all.
