Although the care is excellent, more staff are needed each day. Two on duty must stretch the care workers, especially as my husband is refusing to leave his room and forever on the call button, means they are forever running up and down the stairs. My husband can have a sensible conversation and would
benefit from a care worker talking to him and keeping him company but they cannot spare the time. He uses a wheelchair and the lift is very small and very awkward to get him in and out. It is also a shame that the residents do not go out into the grounds - staff shortage again.

Mum seems very happy at Pen-y-Garth. She eats extremely well and seems to have settled in very well. The staff are all very pleasant with her and mum is well looked after by them with all her basic needs taken care of. The routine at Pen-y-Garth seems relaxed and easy going with visiting times very
flexible. I know that Mum is well taken care of and that makes me feel reassured.

My partner was admitted to Pen-y-Garth last November. It was a difficult time for us all but the staff and management were fully supportive and made the transition easier. My partner has been treated with love and care, they treat him with dignity and love. He has settled and the home's open door visiting
enables me to visit whenever I can. I cannot praise the staff enough.

My friend was brought here from hospital for convalescence.
He is unwilling to participate in any activities and appears to spend most of his time in his room - I have tried to encourage him to join in and socialise with everyone else. I work in a care home myself and understand how difficult this
can be. - When visiting the staff/manager always seem friendly and polite - I can only comment on my findings for the few months he has been here amid all the alterations.

Even though my mother has only been at Pen-y-Garth since February of this year, we cannot speak highly enough of this home. It is a very clean and friendly environment. Staff are exceptional and can't do enough for the residents. Everyone seems happy and settled there. I would recommend this care home
to anyone.

Visiting my sister here today and to see how happy and well-dressed she is, it has now taken all my worries away and I can go home at peace.
I will never worry about my sister again because she is in the best place there is.

This is an excellent home, I cannot fault it.
The staff are marvellous. I watch and observe and they are very kind. I've been coming here to visit my husband over 12 months. The manager is excellent and she always makes time to chat with me. The home is spotless the food is all home made and I have
my meals with my husband. I am offered a cup of tea as soon as I arrive.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.995)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.995) out of 10 for Pen-y-Garth EMI Residential & Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.900 for Pen-y-Garth EMI Residential & Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (55 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.9
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.095 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Pen-y-Garth EMI Residential & Nursing Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.4 = 0.595
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
