I have found all the staff at Woodcroft to be friendly, helpful and professional in their dealings with the public and the service users. They actively encourage service users to socialise and maintain communication skills - so important when life has changed so much already for them. My friend is extremely
happy to be at Woodcroft and, for me, that says it all. I would recommend it to anyone.

The management and staff have proved to be excellent. The dedication and care that my mum receives allows us as a family to look forward to our visits as Mum always looks well and happy. Having the confidence that Mum is being well cared for helps the family get through this difficult journey.

My mother spent 2 weeks in January/February as I needed respite, she has Charles Bonnet syndrome and the start of dementia, although her memory is excellent. The home was adequate but lacked atmosphere and homeliness. She felt that residents didn't sit to eat all together. However, she felt very lonely
as there was nobody she could have a conversation with. The staff did spend what time they could but none of the residents would have a proper conversation with her, it was the loneliness that upset her.

Activities especially the use of the minibus for days out have given my mum her life back and fun! Her quality of life has improved since moving to Woodcroft. I hope the days out will continue it's good for residents and the general public to see people with dementia enjoying everyday outings like picnics.

It was recently decided by medical and social services that Mum, aged 95, needed more care and attention than could be given in her own home. I found Woodcroft and was delighted they could accommodate Mum. Everyone went out of their way to welcome her and make her comfortable. They laughed with her
and gave her excellent care. I would thoroughly recommend Woodcroft to anyone who is looking for a friendly, well run, clean care home.

Have been visiting a resident for two and a half years and have always found the staff to be helpful, sometimes hard to find as busy elsewhere. Maintenance is very good.
Lunches are a good value for money and the only downside I have found is some trouble with the personal alarms not working. Reception
and office staff extremely helpful and approachable.

On the occasions that I visit my relative, I have found the staff helpful, conditions good and security very good. My relative appears to be content with the overall way the home is run. My relative informs me that food and accommodation are very good and is happy. The activities are regular and varied
in keeping with personal preferences in observation without exception.
The staff and management are extremely professional.

My mum has just become a permanent resident at Woodcroft after my dad who’s 87 was no longer able to look after her at home despite fantastic support from care workers. To say this has been a traumatic time is an understatement. What has been a shining light in all this, has been the welcome and care
she has received from this care home. From the moment you walk in you are met by a bright, friendly atmosphere and the staff have a special relationship with the residents. We can’t thank them enough for the support and kindness they have showed us and our precious mum. Thank you.

I would like to take this opportunity to provide a review on the excellent care my mother is currently receiving as a resident in Woodcroft Care Home. Unfortunately, our Mum developed Alzheimer’s disease approximately six years ago and has rapidly deteriorated over the last year resulting in her moving
to Woodcroft. Staff have helped her settle in, focusing on her individual needs both as a patient and as a person. During the short period of time Mum has spent in the home we have already noted the efforts made by staff to ensure her wellbeing. Staff are engaging and inclusive and ensure that Mum is well looked after. Woodcroft is bright, welcoming with homely touches and an atmosphere that is relaxed and friendly. There are many activities arranged for the residents including art, dance, intergenerational projects that provide stimulation and this along with the skills and compassionate approach from all staff, contribute to the excellent care.

My dad was apprehensive going into respite but as soon as he walked through the door at Woodcroft, he was made to feel very supported and welcome.
My dad enjoyed the experience, activities helped him with his dementia and he spoke very highly of the care received during his stay.

My dad arrived in the home from hospital.
As a family, this decision was quite stressful, you always wonder if dad will be happy and hope that he settles. It took a few days to settle, on one of my visits, I left feeling extremely happy as my conversation with my dad was so positive. On my arrival,
he said he loves it in the home. The staff are lovely and nothing is too much trouble for them.

I speak for myself and family. We are very pleased with the care my husband has been having. His condition has improved due to the care of the staff. I have had lunch with him several times and been very happy. I would certainly recommend Woodcroft to anyone. I can't fault it.

My mother was in Woodcroft Home from Feb 2018 following a series of falls at home. From the very start, she was made to feel welcome and safe which was so reassuring for the family. Since then Mum has received the most fantastic care and had a new lease of life. There are so many activities which she
loved and all the staff treated her with compassion, fun and dignity. They "got" Mum and she was so happy there. Sadly she passed away on her 89th birthday but we all cannot praise all the staff enough.

My father spent two years at Woodcroft. Despite his dementia, the staff were always careful to respect his dignity and needs at all times. At the end of his life, everyone went over and above my expectations. He passed away peacefully there, with staff who cared about him and who could not have been
kinder and more helpful to all his family after his death. A big thank you to all the staff from carers to housekeepers, who looked after my Dad when we couldn't any longer.

Mum was put in a crisis bed at Woodcroft so we did not source the care home or know anything about it. We were all made welcome from the first visit and find the home and carers of a really high standard. When we were told Mum would have to move we fought tooth and nail to keep her at Woodcroft as she
had settled, was really comfortable and getting the stimulation she needs.

After looking at other care homes in Cardiff we realised how lucky mum was to be placed here originally.

The home is spacious, very clean, good food and the carers seem to care which means we can relax and know she is safe and being well looked after.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.693)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.693) out of 10 for Woodcroft Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.226 for Woodcroft Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (73 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (11 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.226
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.467 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Woodcroft Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.667
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
