My mother arrived in February in poor health both physically and mentally, but since she arrived at Penpergwm House her health has improved significantly, she has regained weight and most importantly I have seen her laugh and smile again. She has beautiful views from her bedroom and loves to spend time in the glorious gardens, the staff are caring and supportive and always willing to help both my mother and my family to navigate this new chapter in our lives. We are so grateful to them all.
We are so delighted that you feel coming to Penpergwm House has made the difference - that's what we always want.
She loves the varied activities and we regularly see photos/videos of her totally engrossed and obviously having great fun, whilst singing, cooking, exercising etc.
She has recently moved rooms, at the manager's suggestion, to one which accommodates her varying needs with ease. As with her original room, the new one is bright and clean, with a fabulous outlook over the surrounding countryside.
With the nicer weather mam has enjoyed spending time in the beautifully kept garden - watching birds, discussing plants and eating ice cream.
We have asked for, and have always received, timely updates on any changes to mam's health.
The staff are fabulous and obviously know mam well. We always receive a warm welcome and highly recommend Penpergwm to others.
Thank you for a lovely review and we are delighted your mother is enjoying her time with us.
All the staff have been incredible helpful in managing the transition.
I have not given a rating on Value for money. As it was the Mother in Laws preferred care home choice and it has a very good reputation.
My father stayed at Penpergwm House from December 2024 to February 2026. The house is located in the beautiful Monmouthshire countryside near Abergavenny with views of the Black Mountains, surrounded by fields full of sheep. My father had a lovely well appointed double aspect room which was kept very clean and tidy. Food was plentiful and excellent and whilst my father didn't participate in them all, the team arranged a full range of activities to engage residents and I know my father particularly enjoyed the trips out and the musicians who came to play. Most importantly, I was very impressed with the standard and quality of the care provided. The care team were always warm, attentive and engaging and responded quickly to issues my father had. The care team soon became friends rather than simply carers. To those looking for a safe haven for their loved ones, I would thoroughly recommend Penpergwm House.
Thank you for providing such a positive review and we are delighted that you feel we created such an environment for your father.
My Mother has been in Penpergwm for 3 months now, arriving from an extended stay in hospital and from a different part of the country. We knew from the minute we walked in the door that this was going to be the right place for her and it has more than lived up to our expectations. My mother was understandably distraught about being recently widowed, moving to a different area and no longer being able to live independently and the staff all recognised this, being so gentle and supportive in their efforts to make her feel safe and comfortable. She has additional issues around food intolerances, which they happily cater for, and fatigue issues around which they are very understanding. My mother has not found the transition easy and does still not fully accept that this is her life now, but I honestly don't think the staff could do more. They are with her on her transition journey and it's a relief for me and the rest of the family to know how supported and cared for she is.
Thank you for such a lovely review. We are so delighted that we have been able to support your mother and you all.
Penpergwm has offered my godmother outstanding care and support. The warmth and positive attitude of the whole staff team contributes to a wonderful atmosphere throughout. Residents, including my godmother, are treated with kindness, dignity and respect and nothing is too much trouble. It's a tough decision to transition from independent living to a residential setting but you facilitated this and the trial stay made things so much easier enabling my godmother to have peace of mind in doing so. 'Thank you to all.
She is well looked after and the lovely staff have gone to great lengths to get used to her "unusual" self imposed food requirements. My hat goes of to them. They do a great job in looking after residents.
We are delighted we can help be the support for this next phase in her life.
As soon as a vacancy became available we felt able to help her with the transition. It has been incredibly positive and her overall health has improved immeasurably despite her memory and cognition being in decline.
Staff are lovely and the place itself is so beautiful. Mum is difficult to please with her diet choices but everyone has learnt her wills and won'ts which has been incredibly helpful.
I cannot thank the staff and administration enough.
A close friend of mine for whom I had power of attorney, spent the last three and a half years of her life at Penpergwm House. I have nothing but praise for the care, kindness and patient support that the staff offered her in what was a difficult phase of life for a fiercely independent woman. That was a life-changing gift. Her room was small but had a beautiful view, and watching the hills, the sheep in the neighbouring field, and the ever-changing sky gave her great pleasure. Members of staff were always very welcoming and supportive to me as well, which was very much appreciated amidst the challenges of this period of life. Penpergwm House is very well managed by people who really care about the residents. It has a friendly and welcoming ethos, treating clients with dignity. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending it to others.
From the moment my uncle got up in the morning, the care, the food, the friendship and support were absolutely wonderful. I can only have positive thoughts about the teams dedication and professionalism towards my uncle's care and would rate the family's experience as a five star plus.
Thank you so much to everyone at Penpergym House (including the chief and gardener)Nephew of resident/ service user
Thank you for such a meaningful review - every member of staff want to make the difference to the Residents and you saying that they did - is very important to all of us.
It was such a relief to find some where that suited his needs at that time. He was always made to feel very welcome and greeted with smiles and acknowledgement from all the staff. I always felt extremely happy with leaving him in their care. I was always kept informed of any changes in his behaviour, his likes and dislikes, any health problems and any on going issues with his bladder control.
It would have been wonderful if he could have stayed there on a permanent basis but unfortunately his needs increased so he had to be moved to a more secure residential home which is where he currently resides.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Penpergwm House & have done so both to friends & family
My Aunt has been a resident of Penpergwm House for two years and has been very well cared for in that time. She left hospital in October 2023 in a very sorry state and over the past two years Penpergwm staff have built my aunt back up to full strength and has only left their care in the past few weeks as her care needs have moved from residential to nursing. We have always been happy to visit her and made to feel welcome by Georgie, Tracey and the team of excellent staff. The rooms and environment are comfortable and homely. The food has always been well received and my aunt has enjoyed the activities on offer here, with a particular mention to Lucy who went above and beyond to look after by aunt. We were very sorry she had to move but we were helped by Penpergwm with this transition and they even helped with transport to her new care home in the next county. We as a family can't speak highly enough of Penpergwm and all that it offers.
The management and all staff were superb in dealing with my step mother through her last days with them . They were so caring. Nothing was too much . They managed her nursing care well and kept her comfortable in her last few weeks.
It's always about teamwork and good communication. Thank you for supporting what we do.
Mummy was very lucky to have been able to live at Penpergwm-her dementia had left her feeling very vulnerable and she soon felt much safer and was encouraged to think of Penpergwm as her home. She loved joining in with all the other residents and playing the piano daily which was her great love and everyone was so kind and friendly.I visited a lot and was always made to feel most welcome and part of the family!.
Her last few weeks were very hard but Penpergwm held our hands and led us so beautifully to her very peaceful ending in my arms. They cared for me as well as providing outstanding care for my mother-we will be forever in their debt and just want everyone to know how exceptional this wonderful home is-we are all so lucky to have it in Monmouthshire.
Thank you for your kind words. We always endeavour to make the difference and we are very happy you felt we did.
I can hardly find the words to describe how badly Penpergym House management let down my mother. Despite assessing her in the hospital and talking to family about her needs prior to her acceptance as a resident, we were phoned less than an hour after leaving her to say that they in their opinion my mother would never settle there and we would need to move her ASAP. Not after a day, or a week, but an hour! It was truly heart breaking to try and let Mum know that yet again she would have to move to somewhere unfamiliar just because she had been upset on the first afternoon. Staff admitted that, had she been like she was on the second day there that first afternoon, we wouldn't have been put in that awful situation. It felt like management are cherry picking residents. Not one staff member came to say goodbye to her when we left a day later having no time to research other facilities. Poor behaviour from people who are supposed to care.
As a 'Residential' care home , we have limitations within that registration that we can't ignore. Sadly, sometimes a hospital visit is not able to give us as full an understanding of the person as required. It is vital for every client to be in the appropriate setting to receive the care and...
The admission process was very well explained and I felt supported with information and advice.
I couldn't wish for a better service provider.
Thank you for your kind appreciation - we always do our best to support in every way we can.
She is happy and content, very well looked after and looks so much better since her arrival.
She loves the food and has made friends with residents and staff alike.
She enjoys the activities provided and joins in enthusiastically.
She is very happy with her room and all the facilities available.
The staff and management are all friendly , approachable and extremely professional.
Communication channels are excellent. I would thoroughly recommend Penpergwm House.
Thank you so much for such a lovely review - communication is key to supporting our clients and that has to exist throughout the Home so it's wonderful to hear that you feel it is working.
Thank you
After suffering a fall in mid-November the team at Penpergwm have worked with the family to provide the best outcome for the resident's ongoing health and rehabilitation. The team are always available to discuss concerns or new ideas for future support. Money well invested on their residency and future care.
We do our best to work with both professional supporting services and family to ensure the Resident has the best possible outcomes when things like this happen. Thank you.
Going right back to our initial visits to assess the home's suitability for our mother's residence, to present day living at the home. The whole process has been a seamless one for my mother, who has taken to living at Penpergm House, as well as could possibly have been expected. This is all we could wish for.
My mother has a full life, a great circle of friends, and lots of stimulating tasks, events, and activities each and every day. She takes great pleasure in telling everyone about the virtues of the home.
My mother can't say enough complimentary words about the attentive friendly staff and the great food that comes out of Penpergwm's kitchen.
We see all of this, on our visits and love the relaxed friendly atmosphere of the home.
For us, an afternoon in the gardens, or looking out on the gardens from her well-appointed room, knowing she is happy in the home is more than enough.
Thank you for sharing this - the importance of providing stimulation and enabling each Resident to be as active as they choose to be, is so important to us, and the effect it has is clear to see - so we are delighted you agree.
