Although mum went to live at Penpergwm House during lockdown last year, she settled in amazingly well thanks to the love and kindness of all the staff and the efficiency and attention to detail of the management team. These lovely people have kept the residents safe, happy, and Covid free and are truly amazing in many ways. We feel extremely lucky to have happened upon this wonderful Residential Home.
Mum has been living at Penpergwm since March last year and I have been so very pleased with how well she has been looked after. The staff are so kind and friendly and there’s always a warm and comfortable atmosphere. The food is very good and very well presented- tea and biscuits are always on offer! The home itself is very comfortable and well presented, with beautiful gardens. The management and staff have done a terrific job in keeping the residents safe, well and happy through these difficult times. I can’t thank them enough.
My Father was a resident at Penpergwm House for his last 18 months. They were happy times for him. The standard of care given by the staff was extremely high. The atmosphere in the home was always welcoming and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The food served was of a high standard with a choice for residents to choose at each meal. The property was always well maintained with a homely feel. I was always kept informed of my Fathers care and involved in decision making. I cannot praise Penpergwm House enough and would endorse any recommendation. Thank you Penpergwm
Our mother has lived at Penpergwm House since March this year and she is always very positive about the care she receives when we speak to her on skype or at the specially organised garden visits. Before lockdown, we were able to visit her in the home and everywhere was beautifully kept, clean and inviting-a truly exceptional environment. The staff are very kind and compassionate and go above and beyond to help our mother feel relaxed and happy. They take great care in finding out what makes her feel comfortable and tune into her individual needs wonderfully. She loves the meals and looks so well. There are so many activities on offer and we're really happy to see photos on the blog to show that she joins in with some of them which is lovely to see. Through this difficult time, all the staff have worked tirelessly to keep the residents feeling calm and secure, and I am so grateful for their dedication, commitment and loving-kindness.
The staff are second to none. They make this Residential Home a true home from home and during this pandemic, they have been even more than their job descriptions, they have been Mum’s family. I for one, can’t thank them enough.
From the beautifully tended gardens, the cleanliness of the comfortable rooms, the nutritious and delicious meals, the highly imaginative and entertaining events, the atmosphere and ethos of the home, the love and care shown to Mum (and the reciprocated love is reflected back in Mum’s face) - I can’t fault it. We have followed this on the blog which is constantly updated with wonderful photos and videos.
I am so very pleased that Mum lives here and could not recommend Penpergwm House highly enough for anyone’s loved one.
My dad, now aged 87, came to live at Penpergwm House in September 2018 on a trial basis after a spell in hospital. His home living arrangements had become very difficult and his health had deteriorated very badly. Since moving in he has never looked back and I have nothing but praise for the standards of care he receives. From wonderful fresh, homecooked food for every meal, a wonderful entertainment and activities programme, beautifully kept grounds and interiors and most all an amazing team of friendly, caring and very professional staff. My Dad is happy, clean, well-fed and very content, he tells us constantly how much he likes it there. Well done Penpergwm, you have got it right. When I am old and unable to care for myself I want to live somewhere as good as this please.
Mum is in her 80's and suffered terrible anxiety issues. We moved her from a local care home to Penpergwm House due to the obvious decline in both her physical and mental health while there. Due to the absolutely wonderful care and attention Mum has received at Penpergwm House, she has become a different person. She now mixes with other residents, loves the keep fit exercises, the music sessions, and all the other activities that have brought her out of her shell. The staff are so polite and professional and always have time to talk when we have any questions. The carers are so unbelievably warm and understanding that we both feel humble when we meet them. Mum has a phone in her room and we call her daily. She constantly tells us how wonderful both the food is (which we have found to be as good as the finest restaurants) and that she is at last able to make new friends. Thank you so much all of you at Penpergwm House for at last making Mum happy.
They enabled my mother, in effect, to die at home which is a great gift to her and her family. They looked after us as well as her.
Our 88-year-old mother was moderately demented and no longer able to care for herself in sheltered accommodation. We looked at 7 or 8 care homes in the area before finding Penpergwm. Although many of them had an impressive caring ethos Penpergwm stood out as being head and shoulders above the rest. Although Mum was only there for 4 months before she passed away everyone treated her and us with kindness and respect. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt completely confident that she was in safe hands. They have a good relationship with the local GP and other healthcare professionals. I can’t recommend them highly enough.
My father has been here for 6 months and has settled very well. Made very welcome from start and now considers himself to be at home. All staff are wonderful and very caring. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for residential care.
It was a tremendous but necessary decision for me; coming here, but the welcome is beyond belief; the help and care given. The understanding; so necessary to help you overcome your fears. Nothing is too much trouble, in fact, this never changes whatever you need or want is taken care of. From the top management down to all members of staff. I feel I am cared for in every way and in happy and pleasant surroundings.
My mother has been at Penpergwm House for over 8 years. The staff are very caring and patient. My mother used to enjoy the many activities and outings. It's a caring home.
My octogenarian mother made the personal choice to move to somewhere she could "be looked after" a few years ago. Penpergwm was recommended to us by one of her doctors at the time. Since then, Mum has made friends with many other residents and a good many of the staff.
The care staff are superb, nothing being too much trouble, from meals in her room on days when Mum isn't feeling so energetic, to making bath-time an occasion of fun and comfort (aromatherapy and hydrotherapy included).
The activities programme is rich and varied, from outings and painting sessions through to card nights, films, documentaries and wine-tastings. Opportunities to enjoy listening to good music, and participating in singing activities are among the real highlights Mum enjoys.
Friendly, dedicated visiting specialists offer a wide range of additional services and help, from physiotherapy and chiropody through to hairdressing. Residents' family members are made welcome at meal times.
Recently Mum became a resident for a period of a couple of weeks. This had to be arranged at short notice, the staff arranged this efficiently and Mum was given a lovely room. The staff already knew her and vice a versa which helped mum settle. The staff encouraged mum to maintain as much independence as possible and were available if needed.
First impressions of the home were fantastic, a real fire in the entrance hall and the building and gardens are lovely. The staff were all very friendly and treated patients with great care and respect. The activities provided are amazing; quizzes, exercise classes, art, film, music, games, outings, etc. and are open to visitors as well as residents. The food menus change every week and there is always a choice.
Penpergwm is a very well run and caring home and I would not hesitate to recommend it. The team are very considerate and aware that making the decision to put your loved ones into a home is not an easy one even if just for a short period of time.
When mum decided she would like to move into a residential care home rather than have 24/7 home care, we took quite some time find a home we were happy for her to spend her remaining years in.
The facilities available, which we saw on our tour, were second to none. When it came to showing mum around a couple of days later, even though the staff offered her the chance to gradually move in by doing a couple hours or half day, “day visits”, mum just turned around and said, “no I just want to move in as soon as possible”. This is from a very proud and independent lady, so it’s a firm stamp of approval.
We’ve always found all the staff very welcoming and accommodating and can’t recommend them enough, they make the home feel more like a friendly, family-run hotel, than a care home. Our only hope is, that it’s still the same when our time comes to make the move.
