Mum has been at Tregwilym Lodge for a year. Although her dementia has worsened the care she is receiving is amazing. The staff attentive and the nurses regularly update me with mums care plan and any issues with her health. The staff are always very cheerful when we visit and mum has settled so well.
I couldn't ask for more. Mum is getting the 24/7 care she needs.

When I was looking for a nursing home I went around a lot of homes (some I would not put a dog in). Then a dementia nurse mentioned Tregwilym Lodge and I have never looked back.

My dad was taken into hospital in August 2024 and due to complex health conditions, dad needed to be transferred to a nursing home. Dad was taken to Tregwilym Lodge Nursing Home in October 2024 and sadly passed away in August 2025. All I can say is all the staff at Tregwilym Lodge have been fantastic
in their care for dad, they take time for the family and the resident. I slept better at night knowing dad was so well cared for. Thank you Tregwilym Lodge Nursing Home.

Mum went from hospital to Tregwilym Lodge, March this year. This was a traumatic time, admitting we were unable to provide the care needed at home. Recognising keeping her home was affecting my Dad's health.
Tregwilym Lodge has proved to be the best decision we made. In hospital mum was unsettled,
crying, shouting day and night, totally confused. Since going into Tregwilym Lodge, the nursing staff GP and M.D.T., care given has been excellent. They have managed to get mum onto the correct medication. The last few weeks it has been like visiting a different person. She is happy, will hold a conversation with you. Even if at times the conversation can be a bit random. She is starting to interact with people around her.
The home always clean and tidy. They have their own hairdresser. The activities team are always busy organising different activities with the residents. The coffee shop is a lovely addition. The staff are always helpful and friendly

My mum moved into Tregwilym Lodge in January 2025. I was extremely anxious about her going into a residential home, worrying over of she was going to be cared for properly, but the care and support the staff give is tremendous. When I visit, everyone has a smile and says hello, and it's a friendly atmosphere.
We go down to the coffee shop and staff say hello to us and mum very often has a hug, it's so lovely. The activities team are amazing, taking mum out and keeping her busy. Staff are an absolute credit to you.

General care overall seems to have been good. The activities team are so friendly and the office staff have been helpful. On the whole, the carers have been very good, especially given the way they are treated by some patients. The rooms are ok but in all fairness, I can see improvements are ongoing
at the home so I think things are improving constantly.

Overall no major issues with Tregwilym Lodge. The carers and management are very good and helpful regarding any medical and admin issues. The food standard is good. If I have an issue, it is with the care of laundry.

My mother has been at Tregwilym Lodge now for just over a year. When she came her right leg was very ulcerated with a deep open wound. The team treated it with a mixture of some compression dressings etc. and dressing and cleaning. Through their continuous hard work Mum's leg is now completely better,
which it had not for about six years. Thank you all, you've done an amazing job, and Mom is now out of pain. Many thanks.

Every time I visit, planned or unplanned, the home is always very clean and welcoming. Regular activities are planned to stimulate and motivate residents and to enable them. My Dad is always treated with care, understanding and compassion and his 1:1 nursing and emotional needs are met. All staff are
really engaged and enthusiastic to provide a lovely atmosphere. Communication via social media and Newsletters is regular and re-assuring. Management have always responded promptly to any queries. Residents are treated as individuals and they are respected as people. I'm always made to feel welcome and actually part of the team when invited on a walk with Dad and other residents. Outings are always in small numbers to provide fun, care and support. Living far away, I really feel Dad is safe, cared for happy as is possible in a situation where he needs 24-hour care. From the laundry staff, to carers, nursing staff, activities co-ordinators and office/management, Tregwilym Lodge goes beyond. Thank you.

My husband was accepted into this home after months in hospital for nursing care. He deteriorated and lost weight in hospital. Within days of being in the home, my husband is getting stronger physically and mentally. He is being washed and dressed daily instead of being in pyjamas. He is responding
to staff and smiling. He has started eating without help and enjoying his food. The residents are constantly being given hot and cold drinks and biscuits. There is a high level of caring and residents are always clean and tidy.

The staff - from the manager, entertainment team, carers, hospitality and anyone else, always gives 110%. My mother receives care above and beyond my expectations. 24-hour access, constant communication - all problems, big or small are dealt with in a quick time scale. Caring, considerate and highly
efficient team. In my opinion, no improvement needed as all perfect.

My elderly mother has had to transfer from residential to nursing care.
I am struck by how warm and welcoming the staff are. I am always greeted by a smile and a wave. The best way to describe the home is vibrant, fun, professional and compassionate. Check out their Facebook page to see the sort of
things they do.
My mother’s health is very poor but I am confident that she is getting excellent care and the staff cares about her well-being. I have pointed out to the management of the home that in addition to focusing on my mother, the attitude, behaviour and communication of the staff is helping me at a very difficult time.
I am very impressed with how I can pop into the home at any time day or night and I can meet with nursing staff to discuss my mother’s health and needs.
I confirm that the excellent review by statutory bodies reflects my experience of the home.
Moving my mother to the home was the right decision.

My mum was a resident of Tregwilym Lodge for over a year before she passed away in March. Myself and my family will always be truly grateful to the staff for the way she was looked after. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them, even when she wasn't being particularly cooperative. The house is always
clean and smells nice. The staff took her on so many days out I can't remember them all, Castle Bingo, Barry Island, Cafes for lunch, walks in the park, Cwmbran Community Farm, the Tregwilym Arms Non-alcoholic bar and paddling pool in the garden, just to name a few. They also had a lot of visits from entertainers, singers, animals (though I'm not sure about the tarantula), and the staff were always doing things to keep the residents entertained, bingo, dancing, making pancakes, gardening etc. Thank you everyone for looking after my mum so well.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.700)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.700) out of 10 for Tregwilym Lodge Nursing and Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.700 for Tregwilym Lodge Nursing and Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (181 Excellents x 5) + (63 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 250 Ratings = 4.7
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Tregwilym Lodge Nursing and Residential Home is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2021

I am a qualified Nurse with over 10 years of nursing experience and have been part of the Tregwilym Lodge team since October 2021. I provide strong, visible leadership to ensure care and support are safe, effective, and delivered in line with CIW regulations and the national standards for care and support in Wales.

Care at Tregwilym Lodge is person-centred and focused on supporting residents to maintain choice, independence, and control over their day-to-day lives wherever possible. Care planning reflects individual preferences, life history, cultural needs, and personal wishes. Where residents lack capacity, decisions are made in their best interests in line with the Mental Capacity Act, with families and relevant professionals fully involved.

Safeguarding is a fundamental priority. Robust systems are in place to protect residents from abuse or neglect, with staff trained to recognise, report, and respond to concerns promptly. Risk assessments are comprehensive and regularly reviewed to ensure residents are protected while still being supported to live meaningful and fulfilling lives.

Residents receive safe, high-quality nursing and personal care that promotes physical health, emotional well-being, and comfort. Clinical needs are closely monitored, care plans are reviewed regularly, and we work collaboratively with GPs, district nurses, mental health services, and other professionals to ensure holistic and responsive care.

Independence and dignity are actively promoted, with residents supported to make choices about meals, routines, activities, and social engagement. Care is flexible and responsive, adapting to changing needs while preserving respect, identity, and individuality.

We encourage meaningful activity and social inclusion, supporting residents to remain connected to family, friends, and the wider community. Activities are tailored to individual interests and abilities, promoting emotional well-being, stimulation, and a sense of purpose.

Tregwilym Lodge provides a safe, comfortable, and homely environment that meets residents’ assessed needs. The environment is regularly reviewed to ensure it supports mobility, orientation, comfort, and safety, particularly for those living with dementia or complex health needs.

I am supported by a highly skilled and dedicated management and care team who are committed to delivering compassionate, high-quality care. Robust governance arrangements are in place, including regular audits, staff training, supervision, and quality assurance processes, to drive continuous improvement. Feedback from residents, families, and professionals is actively welcomed and used to inform service development and improve outcomes.

Please visit our website to learn more about the wider management team and the experience they bring to Tregwilym Lodge. We look forward to welcoming you and supporting you in making informed decisions about care.
