Having spent a lot of time in Alma House recently visiting both my parents I have to say that the level of care is of the highest standard. All members of staff are helpful, friendly, and attentive which is very comforting, the hygiene and cleanliness is excellent. Overall I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this very caring home to anybody looking to find a place for their parent or friends. The staff and residents are like one big family and that shines through in the happy and loving atmosphere as soon as you enter the building each time.
Thank you very much for the review, it was a pleasure taking care of your parents. And also seeing yourself and your brother in the home. The staff at Alma thank you.
I could not fault Alma House in any way. The staff are brilliant and go out of their way to make our friend comfortable and happy. I have never seen my friend so contented. The staff always make themselves available to make sure we are kept up to date with our friend's health and if anything is needed for her comfort. My friend is always clean, and you can see she is well looked after.
Thank you for your kind review, its always lovely to see residents family and friends visiting, after such a hard couple of years for everyone.
The staff have gone above and beyond to assist with my mum and the settling in period to her new residence. They have dealt with some challenges in a compassionate and professional manner, identifying individual care needs and liaising with other professionals accordingly.
Thank you for your review, the kind words are very much appreciated.
Most of the staff were extremely helpful, kind, and gentle; one or two very impatient and too rushed to be gentle. Management - would have liked a little more contact eg information about hospital appointments. I am not really keen on the 4 pm meal. I am not hungry that often by that time. Would like more veg and fruit.
Having read the review, the manager has discussed these issues with the resident and they are now resolved, including a different meal time and regular contact with management. The cook also discusses with the resident regularly what her meal preferences are and implements changes on the menu.
If one cannot stay at home, staying at Alma House is the best second there is. The cook is very good and always gives a choice. The staff are pleasant, friendly and hardworking. My family can relax knowing I am well looked after.
Thank you for your kind review, it is a pleasure looking after you.
Since my mother has gone into Alma she is back to her old self. She is very happy and content, enjoying her meals and getting well cared for. The staff are very friendly, approachable and nothing is too much of a bother. The home is situated in the heart of Dalbeattie, with lovely gardens for residents to sit out and enjoy. The care my mother receives is first class.
Thank you very much for your review - this is means a lot to the staff, especially through these difficult times.
The staff at Alma McFadyen House treated my gran as if she were part of their family. The house always felt so homely. During a pandemic, the staff showed up every day with smiles on their faces and genius ideas to keep the residents entertained, included, and valued. They gained the love of Dalbeattie's community and became a lifeline for families who were unable to see their loved ones. My gran was very happy with her care.
Thank you very much for your review - this is means a lot to the staff, especially through these difficult times.
My nana was a resident for around 1 and a half years but sadly passed away in May. The staff were amazing. The support they gave my family but most importantly my papa was exceptional. Always took extra care of my papa when he went to visit! I couldn’t thank them all enough for making the last few years of my nana's life extra special! Would highly recommend to friends and family. Such a fantastic team.
Thank you very much for your review - this is means a lot to the staff, especially through these difficult times.
Alma McFadyen House has been a saviour for my ninety year old mother who is a resident. The care, services, dedication to duty by the staff and their kindness, friendliness and understanding to the residents is second to none. A small care home but with a big heart. I would highly recommend this care home to anybody that requires looking after. Thank you all at Alma McFadyen House for looking after my mother.
Thank you very much for your review - this is means a lot to the staff, especially through these difficult times.
During the five years that my father was a resident at Alma McFadyen House, he enjoyed the company and friendship of a new family. The staff and management were that family and whist we were unable to visit Dad during the Covid Crisis, we had absolute confidence in Alma House and they repaid that confidence with such care and kindness for Dad and such compassion during his final days. This nursing home, its staff and management are a great team who produce great results and I wish them every success in the future.
Hi Neil, many thanks for the lovely review. It was a pleasure to care for your lovely dad and he gave us many moments to smile about and we will continue to have fond memories of you all.
A lovely caring home, run by staff who generally care for their residents and family. Nothing is too much trouble difficult times at the moment, but staff try and take extra care with reassurance. I have no concerns regarding the care of my mother. I cannot praise staff enough for trying to keep sprits up. My mum is very well cared for by the lovely staff.
Thank you very much for your kind words, all feedback is appreciated and helps us going forward, caring for our residents.
All the staff are attentive and caring; they go out of their way to make my mother, who has dementia comfortable and stimulated.
Thank you very much for your review, very much appreciated by all staff.
A caring facility who always makes time to listen to concerns. Small issues are quickly resolved.

Very pleased that my mum is now a resident in Alma McFadyen House. The staff are excellent with her and don't let her away with nonsense.
Thank you very much for your review, your views are very much appericated and will allow us to continue to improve our service.
Alma McFadyen House provides a community of care for its residents. My 98-year-old mother recovered from a very serious illness thanks to the exceptional care she received from all staff members. A positive and welcoming atmosphere prevails in which she feels safe and respected.
Thank you very much for your kind words. It is a pleasure to provide care and support to your mother and have such a good relationship you all. Regards.
The staff really do care for the residents in all meanings of the word. If someone can no longer live in their own home the Alma makes an excellent second choice. Thanks to all of you my father's last few months were the best he could have had.
I only attend as a friend and I have found staff, helpful, warm and friendly.
Thank you very much for your kind comments.
I have been living here for 20 months and have found the care provided very good and the staff kind and considerate. I am well fed and the food is of a good standard, is plentiful and is provided at regular times; any work or repairs required are carried out promptly. My room, which has mostly my own furniture, furnishings and paintings, is bright and pleasant to live in.
During the last few days of her life, the love and support both my Mum, husband and myself received was above and beyond the good care we had already seen.
We were all treated in a highly professional, yet warm manner and with great dignity.
All members of the team work together efficiently, yet with love for what they do.
We are so grateful Mum was able to end her life at Alma House, she was in the best place and received exemplary care.
Thank you so much for your lovely kind words, it means a lot to all members of staff. We are so glad Mum felt at home living here. We are all so happy we were given the chance to care for your mum and it was a great pleasure to get to know her lovely family. Thank you for all you did to support Alma whilst your mum lived with us.
Dad applied, was accepted and moved in within the week. He has been happy, contented and safe ever since. During every visit, we find the home calm and peaceful and the attentive staff tho' busy always find time to meet and chat about Dads progress. The Manager has been most helpful in advising how we could apply for extra support from the local authority.
Alma House is a beautiful retirement home, spacious for 23 residents and is always warm, clean and fresh as are the residents. A review of 1000 words cannot begin to convey our pleasure and thanks to have Dad so well looked after. Well Done Alma House team.
