Friendly staff, always willing to help. Care home set in lovely grounds with well-kept gardens.

Thank you for your review and the comments that you have given which I will share with all staff who assist in all aspects of the care for your Mum.

I am delighted that you have acknowledged the dedication of the gardeners for the work they do in keeping the grounds around the care home looking beautiful with colour and variety. Your Mum does enjoy the gardens - weather permitting.

The facility is excellent and the staff are well trained in care and support and treat each patient with caring dignity. Management are also excellent at taking action on any issues of care and office staff keeps us all informed on billing and any queries we have on the facility.

Overall we are delighted with the care Mum is receiving.
The staff are very caring and helpful especially the day staff.
On occasion, Mum has rung for assistance during the night and has had to wait a long time for help.
She is very comfortable in her beautiful room.
The food is good but standards seem to drop at a weekend - a sandwich for tea is not enough!

The activity on a Tuesday is excellent but would prefer music to accompany hymns at other times.

Mum has settled in well - she is comfortable and very well cared for by the staff.
The manager is always available and most helpful.
Facilities are good but meals seem to vary from good to disappointing - cold plates, luke warm food and tough meat!

On a couple of occasions, Mum has had to use her buzzer during the night but failed to get a response.

Reply from Margo Brunton, Home Manager at Lower Johnshill

Thank you for your feedback. I am so sorry to learn that the food is at times disappointing which will be addressed with the team. I am also concerned to learn that your Mum had to use her buzzer during the night but that there was no response. This concern will be investigated.

Mum has been very well cared for in every way since entering the nursing home nearly a year ago. There is a good relaxed friendly atmosphere and staff are obliging, keen to help, support and reassure and work well together as a team. They communicate well with each other and with relatives. You feel they are concerned with the whole person.

Good interaction with residents on part of staff. Activities especially singing is encouraged. Weekly service of Christmas worship led by a friendly Chaplin, knitting, quizzes.

En-suite rooms seem spacious with good sized window. Quality items of furniture pleasing to the eye. Large TV screen in separate part of lounge. Books available to borrow and read. Food seems to be adequate. Nice afternoon tea with cake and biscuits and fresh fruit. Some of the easy chairs in lounge are a bit worn and some too low.

Reply from Margo Brunton, Home Manager at Lower Johnshill

On behalf of the unit we appreciate the time taken to complete the review survey, we are delighted with the renovation work which will commence January 2018 to which, part of this is the new furniture within the resident's lounge areas.

Would I recommend? I already have and wouldn’t hesitate to do so again. My mother passed her final months here and she loved it despite her failing health, which became increasingly challenging. It’s an incredibly hard time of life, but her care was absolutely superb, and the staff and management really supportive. The life they gave her despite everything was the best it could be, and it really did become her home. All delivered with care, dignity and respect.

Mum has lived at Johnshill for over a year, following the closure of another home, where she was for over three years. As her condition has worsened, we have had a number of concerns, all of which have been addressed in meetings with staff and phone calls. Staff are cheerful and work hard, but there are times when a few staff are in attendance. The programme of activities has also been cut, largely due to a cut in hours of the activity workers and chaplain. The regular activities such as singing and services rely on volunteers and have also been cut.

All the staff have been very pleasant and helpful. We would highly recommend it. We enjoyed the trips and entertainment. The family were impressed on their visits. Mother and I were made to feel very welcome. The events manager has told me to phone before we next come and she will arrange transport and events for us in advance.

Food sometimes bland and not enough to do. Need more singing or something. Staff are great.

I am delighted with the experience my father has had since moving here in Jan 2016. Being surrounded by lush countryside and woodlands provides an added bonus. The care my father has received has exceeded my expectations on all levels. The staff are caring and attentive- always smiling and display discretion and patience which is very important when caring for a dementia sufferer. My father often comments about how good the food is and has a good rapport with the staff. A credit to the care industry.

My aunt lived here for many years but she has sadly passed away now. The only complaint that I would have had is there is not enough activities for the residents.

Reply from Darren Kelly, General Manager at Lower Johnshill

Many thanks for your review. The Home has increased its focus on activities of late, with improvements in availability of our Social Care Facilitators, improvements in our training programme, improved efforts in dementia focussed activities and ensuring staff are aware of responsibilities, in relation to the social aspect of our care provision.

On the whole, everything runs very smoothly and staff and residents interact well. Wheelchairs are rather antiquated on the whole and cushions not always provided. Social facilitation are excellent and goes"above and beyond" to make residents happy and occupied. House is well maintained and always clean (no smells!).

Reply from Darren Kelly, General Manager at Lower Johnshill

Thank you very much for your kind words and views on Lower Johnshill.

I will share these with all of our colleagues at the Home.

In relation to your point about our wheelchairs, we are currently undertaking a maintenance and replacement programme which will quickly alleviate the issues raised.
