Now that a few months have passed, I wanted to write and say thank you so much for taking such very great care of my mother. You looked after her so well for the short time she was with you, you were professional, friendly and endlessly welcoming to her and the whole family. You gave us hope and comfort
at a difficult time. We all loved your home, the staff and the nuns, and are so sad that we did not have time to get to know you all better. Heartfelt thanks and 100% recommendation from our family.
Reply from Laura Davey, Marketing Executive at Chestnut Manor Care HomeThank you for your kind comments. We are pleased to know you found hope and comfort during a difficult time and that you loved our home. The team at Chestnut Manor will be grateful for your lovely words. Thank you once again.

Acting as POA for a friend who now resides at Chestnut Manor, it was imperative to ensure that our decision to place her there was the right one, particularly after having experienced the decline of care in her previous care home and the contrast is amazing. The facilities at Chestnut Manor are exceptional,
house keeping is of the highest standard and the staff couldn't be praised more for the care and attention which our friend now receives. The staff is not only very professional, but also treats its residents with utmost compassion and dignity, which is so important for the well-being of each individual. Our friend has visibly improved so much - both in appearance and overall generally. The staff couldn't be more attentive and keep us informed at all times, which is extremely reassuring and gives us peace of mind knowing that we undoubtedly made the right decision placing her under Chestnut Manor's care. Thank you to all the staff for all you do - we really appreciate it!
Reply from Laura Davey, Marketing Executive at Chestnut Manor Care HomeThank you very much for taking the time to leave such a positive five star review. The hard working team at Chestnut Manor will be thrilled to read these kind and reassuring words. Our belief here at Westgate Healthcare is that everybody deserves person-centred care and that emotional, psychological, physical and medical needs must be met with the utmost care and compassion. Thank you.

For us, Chestnut Manor is a very different experience to other care homes. Firstly, the decor is more akin to a 4-star hotel. The environment and staff were immediately welcoming and soothing, which was a great comfort to us at a difficult time.
Our mum was received at Chestnut on discharge from the
hospital, following a nasty fall at another care home where she was receiving respite care. Her injuries were life-changing and we were finding it very difficult to cope. Our confidence in the care system was low. That changed in an instant at Chestnut from her assessment, her intake, up until now, Mum has received first-class care. Every member of staff treats Mum with compassion, understanding and dignity.
Care is tailored to her individual and changing needs. Nothing is too much trouble, for Mum or us. Ironically, although she is very unwell, Mum looks better than she has in a long time. This is holistic compassionate care at its very best.
I wish it was the standard, not the exception.

My brother-in-law received palliative care at Chestnut Manor in January 2023. Despite having several complications with his ailing health, no request was too difficult for the wonderful staff at Chestnut Manor. They looked after him and all of us during a very difficult time, we will never forget the
compassion shown by the floor team and also everyone else we encountered.

My friend has been in Chestnuts Manor Care Home since August last year. She is a 95-year-old lady. The care she has received has been exceptional. The staff are very attentive. There is always some sort of activities each day for her to go to if she is up to it. I, myself, have had a good rapport with
the manager as well as the staff. It is a high standard of cleanliness. The food is very good also. I cannot praise the home enough.

In the spring, my mother had a whole series of medical problems, ranging from pneumonia to repeated bouts of cellulitis. During this time, between hospital visits, she stayed for several weeks at Chestnut Manor Care Home. I can’t speak highly enough of the staff who gave my mother first-class care during
her stay. When some of the health issues flared up again, they dealt with it with tremendous resourcefulness and persistence. The result was my mother was seen very promptly by doctors (including one visit in the middle of the night) and was able to start on her medication within about twenty-four hours or less. My mother benefited enormously from her time at Chestnut Manor. It gave her a chance to literally get back on her feet. At the same time, she realised she wasn't quite ready to go into permanent residential care. Now, she is back in her own home and doing well. The whole family are delighted she has been able to resume the life she knows and enjoys. Long may it continue!
Reply from Sarah Williams, Marketing Manager at Chestnut Manor Care HomeThank you very much for your kind words regarding your mother's short-term stay at Chestnut Manor Care Home. After a trial two-week stay towards the end of last year, my mother made the permanent move to Chestnut Manor Care Home in February. She has had health issues since she moved in and the nursing care she has received has been excellent. The care and love that the staff have for all the residents is beyond
doubt and it gives you peace of mind knowing that. There is a constant program of activities and everyone is made to feel part of them, even if they are restricted on just how much they can take part. The food and options are amazing and in line with a quality restaurant and that includes presentation and service. We actually call it the hotel when we talk to Mum because to us it's more like a luxury hotel than a care home. Forget all the pre-conceived ideas of what a care home is because this is the future and the model everyone else will be aiming to copy, just because you get old there is no reason why you should not still enjoy life and Chestnut Manor does everything they can to make that happen.
Reply from Sarah Williams, Marketing Manager at Chestnut Manor Care HomeThank you for your very kind, heart-warming review, we are pleased that your mother is receiving the care she deserves and that you have peace of mind. The care, friendliness and love shown to my Mum never ceases to amaze and please me. All staff, without exception, are always willing to go that extra distance to do or provide what is needed at any time. I have witnessed the playfulness between my Mum and the carers and I can tell she is very fond
of them. I think all the residents are so lucky to have such a great team supporting them. As a relative, I certainly feel it and can always relax in the knowledge that Mum is getting first-class care at all times.

Our father recently took up residence in Chestnut Manor Care Home shortly after being diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer's. Dad was living a totally confused life, struggling to cope with living alone whilst trying to hold on to his independence. We, as a family, wanted the very best for him and
senior staff from the home assessed him in his own home and were wonderful with both Dad and the family. We call Chestnut Manor a hotel, but in fact, it's probably better than that. Residents are afforded every luxury possible with nothing too much trouble. His food is first-class, a three-course lunch is even served with wine if desired. He has a comfortable, clean room with a lovely view of the garden, the chance to sit and play board games and even a shower at 02:30 should he wish! The management are always on hand to discuss how Dad is settling in and offer excellent advice on how to deal with our new dad and answer those sometimes strange questions which are asked. Dad couldn't be in a better place.

I live in Northern Ireland and visited my sister last week for the first time since she came to the care home. I was very pleased to witness the good care she is receiving from the kind and loving staff. My husband and I visited three afternoons and were made very welcome, joining the residents in the
lounge and observing the activities you have each day. I know my sister can be difficult and uncooperative but I have seen how your staff deal kindly with her. I don't know when I will be able to get over to visit her again but I am very happy to know she is being well looked after.

Chestnut Manor Care Home in Wanstead is a different league! Blown away from our first visit, we asked if myself and my mum could move in. My uncle did a month's trial to see if he felt comfortable and if the care home found him suitable for permanent residency. Our first visit made me shed a tear of
joy, my uncle was the happiest I'd seen him. He was more with it, being more talkative and had more energy/excitement. We believe this was due to him having regular meals and being hydrated. As well as the company from the carers, nurses and other residents, his own beautiful, well-sized room with a large TV and en-suite. The care home was rebuilt over five years, opening in September 2021. The level of detail, practical needs, space, facilities, every room having its own en-suite and interior design, everything has been so well thought of. The support and care from everyone, from receptionists, carers, nurses, laundry, management and everyone working here is so dear and honest!

The person for whom I hold power of attorney has been at Chestnut Manor Care Home only a few weeks but already calls it home and is not even interested in visiting her old home to pick out things she wants to keep. She feels safe and well cared for. My experience of the staff has been very positive
and they are making every effort with an old lady who can be rude and quite difficult. She's less anxious than she was at home and is eating much better. Her room and the building as a whole are very clean and there is no hint of a smell. I always receive a warm welcome from the reception staff and everyone I encounter is friendly and helpful. It's a great relief to me to know that she's receiving such good care and is happy.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.749) out of 10 for Chestnut Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.874 for Chestnut Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (157 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 175 Ratings = 4.874
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chestnut Manor Care Home is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews.
