Elmwood is a purpose-built home, located in a quiet part of Bickley, Kent. They offer a comfortable and loving home, with a high standard of person-centred care to sixty seven older people with physical or elderly frail nursing needs. Nurses and carers provide full nursing and clinical care twenty four hours a day. They are dedicated to caring for residents with dignity, respect and compassion and to serving residents’ social, physical, clinical and emotional needs.
   
Staff are loyal and hardworking, ensuring a strong continuity of care for residents and work to encourage independence and freedom of choice.

Residents’ bedrooms are spread across three secure and accessible floors. Each floor benefits from a large, bright lounge and dining area. All bedrooms are large, spacious and well appointed with ensuite facilities and pleasant views onto the front or rear gardens or surrounding residential area. Whilst all furniture, linen and towels are provided, with rooms presented to a high decorative standard, carers encourage residents to personalise their bedrooms as they wish.

All meals are prepared onsite using fresh ingredients. Menus are prepared and updated on a regular basis, in full consultation with residents and their advocates. The team are committed to ensuring that any dietary needs and preferences are met and that varied and nutritional meals are available to suit every cultural and personal choice.

Elmwood benefits from a diverse and extensive programme of activities, events and excursions, a coffee shop, cinema, chapel, hairdressing salon and internet suite for residents’ use. Strong community relationships ensure strong pastoral and religious support, with weekly church services in the home.

Mum is well cared for and settled and feels comfortable that Elmwood is her home. The staff do their best for the residents and are approachable and supportive to both the residents and their families. They have done their best to balance the health and safety of the residents with the need for family
contact throughout the covid restrictions.

Pleased with the overall care my mother receives. On my visits, the staff always seem very attentive. Cleanliness is a big plus throughout the areas I have accessed on visits and very happy that the best possible care is given.

My mum has been a resident at Elmwood since July 2021. The care the staff show her is amazing. They are patient, kind and treat her as an individual. I have peace of mind knowing that mum is being cared for and that she is safe and I am grateful for that every day.

I am a close friend and have Power of Attorney for the resident who has been cared for since May 2019, when admitted in a poor state of health having suffered for some time with Bullous Pemphigoid, a rare and most unpleasant skin condition. The Elmwood nursing staff have made huge efforts over subsequent
months to dress the lesions and huge blisters inherent to this condition, with care and sensitivity. A Hospital Consultant was able to declare my friend free from the condition this summer, for which the Elmwood staff should be congratulated as this result is considered very unusual given the complexity of the condition. My friend has expressed on many occasions her appreciation for the staff, who she finds friendly and caring. She also has assured me the home-cooked food is tasty and varied. Sadly my friend is bedridden because of a number of other issues, but she remains calm and peaceful. I would be pleased to recommend this Mission Care Home and Team to any of my friends requiring nursing care.

My father’s dementia escalated rapidly and as a family, we had to make the toughest decision to find a care home for him, as we could no longer keep Dad safe at home. We found Elmwood after Dad had a short stint in another home where the level of care was poor. From the moment Dad moved into Elmwood,
his physical health improved rapidly and he soon settled happily into his new surroundings. This was due to the high-quality care and attention that Dad received from the outset. As a family we were always made to feel welcome and communication was excellent. Dad was a resident of the 2nd floor and was very happy and content. The nursing staff, care assistants and entertainment team were exceptional. They undertook their duties in challenging circumstances with patience, care and a smile. Sadly, Dad passed away peacefully a few months ago. We will be forever grateful to all of the staff who make this an exceptional care home.

I am appalled and disgusted by the lack of care given to Mum.
I found the staff to be unprofessional, both in nursing and the Home Manager. There is hardly any communication between staff which leads to confusion and things not being done. Teamwork here is lacking. Elmwood is incredibly short-staffed.
Safeguarding issues is something that I am currently taking further and talking to governing bodies.
I do not recommend this home.

Elmwood Nursing Home staff always work very hard to provide the very best care for our residents and we work well together as a team. We also ensure that we seek to build constructive and positive relationships with the families and friends of our residents. We believe that we did so in this case, and we are grateful that other reviews clearly reflect the quality of care we provide.
For the avoidance of doubt, it is also important to clarify that there are no safeguarding investigations with regard to the care delivered at Elmwood for this resident.

My Mum went into Elmwood Nursing Home in November, it has been a very hard, distressing time for me as my mum had lived with me for over 22 years previously. I am so pleased with the care my mum is given on the 2nd floor, the staff are always friendly and welcoming. The daily activities are good with
activities offered morning and afternoon. My mother really enjoys the morning activities. The food is cooked on the premises and is of a very good standard. I am very happy with all aspects of mum's care, and would definitely recommend this care home.

The home has a range of things to do. Staff friendly. Not all residents get a drink at 11 and 3, the trolley doesn't always go to bedrooms. Mum not able to ask for drink, so always seems thirsty. Staff need to pop in more and give one. Bedside table not always clean and bedrail cushions. Carpet needs
replacing in bedrooms and walls a wipe down. Staff are approachable and polite.
I am happy that mum is in Elmwood.

The care home has very good facilities and amenities. The residents are well-cared for and entertained. All the staff I have come into contact with are friendly, reliable, efficient and caring. My mother us cared for and content. She relates as well as is possible with the management and staff who are
responsible for her. I am happy and secure in the knowledge that she is in safe hands.

I have only been here one week. I can not fault the facilities or the service provided by the staff. The food is excellent and the staff are very kind and helpful. All in all, I would recommend Elmwood to anyone who needs care.

In this instance, I can only comment on Elmwood since I have no knowledge of the other care homes managed by Mission Care.
Glancing through the various pamphlets/leaflets published, the phrase "committed to providing a high standard of care and supporting family and friends" appears frequently.
As
far as I am concerned, apart from the odd minor issue, Mission Care stay close to this code of values.
As in all businesses, managers set the tone and style and in this regard, the manager, assisted by her clinical lead, sets high standards and leads by example.

My mother first came to Elmwood in December 2016. I have been very happy with the care and kindness shown by all the staff. There is always happy faces and laughter when I visit. The facilities are excellent with activities offered morning and afternoon. My mother really enjoys the visiting music acts
and the lovely garden. I am very happy with all aspects of her care.

Sakshi joined Mission Care in August 2017 having previously worked for Bromley Social Services and Compliance Team. She is a compassionate Home Manager who leads with unwavering commitment to provide the highest quality of life for residents in a warm and nurturing environment.
Her mission is to create a home away from home at Elmwood, where residents and their families can find comfort in knowing that their loved ones receive the best care possible. When not working, Sakshi enjoys spending time with her family, exploring the outdoors.
