Reviews

9.8 St David's Nursing Home has a Review Score of 9.8 (9.799)

The Review Score of 9.8 (maximum of 10) for St David's Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 20 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for St David's Nursing Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.799 for St David's Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (193 Excellents x 5) + (44 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 239 Ratings = 4.799

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St David's Nursing Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 7.8 positive Reviews (39 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 14 Reviews ÷ 7.8 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

I think this is the best care home around Berkshire. I have been in another Care Home and I didn’t feel happy there.
The staff and management are very friendly and always happy to help.

David Tanner, Director at St David's Nursing Home responded to this review on 29 Jan 2018:

Thank you very much Valentina.

Mum's stay was short due to the nature of her illness and we were looking for the best possible comfort and end of life care. St David's had a lovely home from home friendly feeling from the moment we first visited. With beautiful Spring weather during her stay, we were able to take full advantage of the wonderful grounds for as long as possible. The caring and kindness of everyone involved in looking after Mum was outstanding. In addition, the support and help provided to us, her family, was fantastic.

When my mother could not be cared for any longer at home the family had no hesitation in going to look around St. David's and as we had only heard good things about the care there we were not disappointed. As soon as we walked through the door we felt such a warm feeling. She was there about three years and very happy as we were from management, carers, cooks, cleaners. They all put a hundred percent into their everyday work and treat residents with so much respect, love and care.

This nursing home provides an excellent standard of care in all area but what makes St David's stand out is the genuine love and compassion shown to all residents by all the care and nursing staff. All residents are encouraged to be involved with activities including the bedbound residents. The meals are first class and a good variety. My two friends have been residents of St David's for over ten years. Throughout this time they have been extremely well cared for and treated with dignity and respect. All staff have shown them great kindness and made them feel safe and valued. Activities and outings are arranged on a regular basis and they are always treated as individuals and not institutionalised. I would thoroughly recommend this care home.

Dear Tom, thank you for your kind review. I will pass your comments on to the staff. See you soon. David

The care home is set in beautiful grounds and all of the staff are caring and helpful. Excellent staff/resident ratio and the management is open to any feedback. The home is spotlessly clean. The cost of the care home is average for this area but expensive when compared to other parts of the country.

Dear Jonathan, thank you for taking the time to post a review. Best regards David

As Power of Attorney to my longstanding friend, I had the task of sourcing a suitable care home for her almost 2 years ago. St David's was slightly known to me at the time and has certainly proved an exceptional choice. The staff and management have provided highly professional and caring support to residents, relatives and visitors. The proprietor should be commended for the high standards achieved at St David's Nursing Home.

My husband has been a resident here for the last 8 months and before that periodically for respite. He has lost his speech, is tube fed and doubly incontinent. He is so well looked after, they care for him in every possible way and his spirits are always high.

Good communication about mother's declining health and frequent updates by phone or in person. The care in her last days was gentle, kind and unhurried. All the staff were caring towards her and us. At the end, they were patient and compassionate. We were not rushed at all but encouraged to stay with her. I cannot fault the standard of care and compassion within the home.

Dear Gill, thank you for your kind words. I will make sure the staff team have an opportunity to read them.

I cannot fault the care and service provided by the staff at St David's. The quality of staff and care they provide is outstanding. I have a very good relationship with the key carers for my mother, who has been there for 5 years now. I like the fact that visiting hours are unrestricted so I can pop in any time knowing I can spend time with Mum.

There are drinks and snacks available to visitors which you can make yourself. If requested, you can join relatives in the dining room to eat or have something in their room. This makes a sometimes difficult and stressful atmosphere much easier to deal with. The home is always clean; the resident's rooms, general common areas, day rooms, bathrooms and conservatory etc.

St David's is a beautiful old priory filled with nostalgia but with all the facilities of a modern care home - set in stunning, peaceful grounds.
I feel very lucky to have been able to have my mother see out her days here. I can't recommend it high enough.

Thank you so much for your comments. I will make sure the staff are aware of your kind words.

St David's is a very caring home providing full support to my mother and her needs. We have often observed staff dealing in a very caring and supportive manner to residents even when they didn't know we were there or observing. The home is spotlessly clean and staff always go out of their way to help when we phone or want to speak to Mum.

Dear John, Thank you for your kind words. I will make sure the staff team are aware of them.

My sister has shown spectacular improvement since coming to reside at St David's Nursing Home. She is really happy.
I have been very impressed by the high standards maintained in all areas of this care home. The owners and their administrative staff are efficient, available, very considerate and prompt to attend to any manner of a request whether from a resident or from a family member.
Care staff are clearly well-trained and reflect that in their standard of care; helpful, cheerful, respectful and attentive to even trivial requests.
The happy atmosphere is evident throughout the home - it generates a pleasant feeling of family life.

Dear Kitty, many thanks for your kind words. Your sister is a miracle! See you soon.

After 2 years in a different home where I felt I had to 'guard' my mother, her time at St David's was entirely different and absolutely better in every way. I felt I could really trust the staff in all aspects of her care and they could not have done more. Kindness and consideration at all times. The manager and her team should be commended.

The care my mother received in her final days was exemplary. The room was very homely and the atmosphere relaxed. All staff were very friendly and they took time to make sure we were OK as well. The home itself is situated in beautiful grounds and my mother said she wished she had moved there years ago. The palliative care was very good, and I can honestly say I would highly recommend it.

Thank you for your very kind words, they really mean a lot to us.

Very interesting place to live, a wide variety of people work at St David's, so that now I am learning another language and I really like that as being in a care home is not the end. I have done so much here. I go on a lot of interesting trips, care and attention to residents is of a high standard. My family very much look forward to visiting me here.

Both my parent's moved into St. David's in November 2013, sharing a twin en-suite room. I knew of the quality of the home from family who had previously visited a resident there on a fairly regular basis. An earlier reviewer has gone into great detail about the high standards all round and I would echo those statements 100%. The only thing I would add is that my mother died in May this year: The end of life care she received (and the information and support we were given) was second to none.
