Our mother was transferred from Stoke Mandeville Hospital to Lakeside in the middle of May 2018 after a sudden downturn in health. She received kindly and attentive end of life care at Lakeside, where she finally died. The staff were always very helpful and considerate and nothing was too much trouble
for them, whether it was answering our phone calls to inquire about our mother's situation and any other questions. Most importantly, their care for our Mother was excellent and they did all that they could to ensure that she was as comfortable as possible. Lakeside has this ethos that all patients are part of a family, and that included my mother, although unfortunately, she wasn't really totally aware of things. We are very appreciative of the care my Mother received and would have no hesitation in recommending the Lakeside Nursing Home to others. Thank you so much.

My Mother was very poorly when she arrived at Lakeside, she was treated very well and I could not fault the care she was given.
I spent most of the time she was there with her chatting with staff and other residents, I soon felt at home there myself. The residents had no complaints, the staff had
worked there for years, and seemed very happy. The food was exceptional, as I had a few meals given to me.
Her room was cleaned and the floor mopped every day. The whole place smelt fresh and clean, other homes I visited were not so nice smelling. If I need to go into a nursing home in my later life, I'll be going to Lakeside.

Dear Debra, thank you for such a glowing review, it was a shame mum did not get to enjoy the view, I am pleased you felt she received a high standard of care. I will let the staff know your comments.

My 96-year-old mother was in hospital after a fall at home resulting in a broken hip. Realising that she would no longer be able to return home and needing 24-hour care, my sister and I visited a number of nursing homes in the Aylesbury area and chose Lakeside Care Centre as the best option for her.
And our choice was more than confirmed as soon as she was transferred there.
It's a beautiful home with amazing views sited on a lake but the real magic here is the staff. Without exception, they are conscientious, helpful, professional and friendly. Always putting Mum's needs first and treating her with respect and amazing care. Offering the same to us whenever we visited. What a team!
And they were a team. From the cleaners to the nurses I cannot fault them. They all enjoyed working there and most had been there for a number of years. Obviously, excellent management who lead from the top.
I cannot speak too highly of this wonderful home from home.

The home is beautifully situated, with lovely wheelchair friendly walks around the lake and stunning views.
Whenever we asked if my mother could go in the wheelchair, the staff, no matter how busy they were, would get her ready in a cheerful and professional manner.
I stayed overnight a number of
times and was always made welcome and never saw anything but exemplary standards of care.

I am very happy to see my wife being cared for in such a lovely place.
They were very obliging when we had a family wedding this year and they helped my wife put her best clothes on and also provided a carer (at a cost) to accompany her on the day. She thoroughly enjoyed her day out!

If you've got to be in a place like this, it's a nice one, said my mother in law!
She likes sitting by the window looking out into the car park - so she can see who's coming and going.

All the staff at Lakeside played a fantastic part in making the final months of my mum's life happy and contented. Lakeside is an excellent environment. The frail and elderly feel safe and cared for. The home is very clean, well staffed and welcoming to visitors. The care and attention was impeccable.
My mum deserved the very best and she certainly received it.
They gave me the reassurance and compassion needed during her end of life care.

My mum was placed at Lakeside for end of life care. The room was perfect with a lakeside view and was clean and tastefully decorated. We were able to personalise the room. The staff, from the moment we stepped into Lakeside, were polite, attentive and knowledgeable of my mum's conditions, they were
just so lovely. I was so confident of the care Lakeside offered, I felt able enough to trust them with the care of my mum, usually hard for me as I have been her carer for 6 years.

My nanny spent about a week in the care home before she sadly passed away on Wednesday 23rd November. The care she received was wonderful. The carers treated her like she was their own family. They came and checked on her regularly and made sure she was comfortable. Thank you for your care and support.

A friendly, well run care home, which is looking after my mother with care, respect and dignity. We as a family feel confident mum is in the best place to help her in her later years when she can't look after herself anymore.
The manager was also very helpful in assisting us with the procedure/system
of how to get mum into the care home.

My mother was transferred to lakeside because of her failing mobility, health and weight. She was 97 and needed more intensive care generally. In the 6 months she was there she gained weight and seemed very happy. Mum passed away at the home 20-2-16, with the family around her for the last 36 hours.
The care and dignity mum and the family were shown was outstanding. Nothing was to much trouble. Lakeside is a place where, after visiting your loved one, you come away feeling content and confident you are leaving them in good hands.

On my first visit I was immediately impressed with the quality of welcome and readiness to be helpful without intrusion. Staff smiled as I passed them wherever they were working and readily responded if I had a query. All visits were the same. It was always a pleasure to visit my friend. I like the
way that the majority of staff responded to my friends and her needs efficiently and respectfully. I also found management equally ready to respond to requests for information or action and felt that they genuinely were doing the best they could under any circumstances to deal with the situation in hand. This is a human nursing home.

Mum has recently moved to Lakeside where she is extremely happy and content. She has a lovely comfortable room which has stunning views across the lake. She also has her own toilet/shower room attached. The family of staff are amazing, from the manager to the cleaners, chef and carers, everyone finding
the time to make mum's stay as pleasant as possible - even calling the doctor in promptly when mum was poorly. Both mum and the other residents are looked after and supported well depending on their individual needs; the staff being good listeners, caring, friendly, patient and kind. There always seems to be different activities happening in the main lounge; it is a happy place. It is reassuring to know that mum is being so well looked after during her time here. If I become too old/infirm and unable to look after myself, then this is the type of nursing home that I would like to end up in. I would definitely recommend this home to others.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.475)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.475) out of 10 for Lakeside Watermead Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.657 for Lakeside Watermead Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (76 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.657
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.818 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lakeside Watermead Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 49 registered maximum number of service users is 9.8. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.8 = 0.918
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
