Overall Experience

My mum was admitted to Laurel Care Home following a terminal cancer diagnosis, and from the time she was visited in hospital to assess her needs to the time that she died, she was in receipt of excellent care and treated with dignity. All her medical needs were met, and her family supported and kept informed. The palliative care she received was outstanding and each and every member of staff treated her with utmost respect and showed her empathy whilst providing excellent care.

This is a shining example of how care and a care home should be. The staff, accommodation and food here are great, the entire staff were always happy and helpful, which clearly was transmitted to the residents. Communication and time given to residents and relatives about their care was excellent. Activities and excursions are on a regular basis, keeping the residents mentally and physically (where possible) active. My Aunt's care before and during end of life was always conducted with compassion and consideration for her dignity. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone.

My father spent 19 months in Laurel and was looked after very well by the staff and management. Everyone was very kind and showed patience and respect him at all times. They were also very friendly and considerate to other family members when they visited. I was kept informed of any changes regarding my Dad's health throughout his stay. I was particularly impressed with the care and kindness shown to us when Dad received End of Life care during his last week. We were given much support at a very difficult time. Thank you to all at Laurel!

Being an only child, the care of my mother was very important. Towards the later years of Mum's life, her health became poor and everyday life and myself. The Laurel Care Home took all our needs into consideration, Mum's and mine. The total care package was amazing. Genuine kindness from every member of the Laurels team. Mum needed the most intimate of personal care. This was always achieved with dignity. There was complete freedom to go from every are of the home. Full of appropriate fun and laughter. Excellent food and treats.

This is the third care home my wife has been resident in since January 2013. She is suffering with vascular dementia, which progressed to the point, in November 2017, where she needed the sort of care provided by Laurel. She can do nothing for herself and I find that the high standard of service provided by Laurel for my wife is essential. The staff and management do their utmost to make life as pleasant as possible for the resident and always respect the wishes of the family.

This is a home situated within easy reach for people using public transport with some well cared for gardens for the use of the residents.

The home is well run by some excellent staff who treated my late mother with the utmost dignity in her time at the home. The staff from all departments, kitchen, cleaning, laundry and nursing appear to make it their job to know the residents and the relatives. They are friendly and all appeared happy in their working environment. The nursing staff are professional competent people who will always make time for you if you have questions. Always a good and varied menu from the kitchen, the place is clean and overall in a good state of repair.

I would recommend this home.

Quiet location, extensive grounds/gardens, easy car parking, close to Southampton and the motorway.
Lovely well-appointed rooms (mine has a perfect view into the grounds to watch birds on the bird table.
Very friendly kind and attentive staff. Excellent facilities with TV lounges, library and sheltered balconies.
Separate restaurant with excellent menu. (Sadly my medical condition means I can't enjoy everything here!)

Highly recommended!,

Overall Experience
The home is welcoming - staff are friendly and genuinely caring, always happy to talk and know their patients (and after a short time) relatives by name.
Discussions are never hurried or defensive with nurses happy to talk through medical details and care plans in detail.
There is a high staff ratio - consequently, the workers are not overstretched and provide a consistently good standard of care
The facilities: kitchen, laundry, recreational, etc are good and building maintenance and improvements are constantly undertaken.
My father soon became comfortable and settled after admission and received very good palliative care (and thus avoided transfer to hospital) at the end.

In conjunction with my partner (who has professional experience in care home evaluation), I visited a dozen care homes in South Hampshire. The Laurels was by far the best.

I have found Laurel Care Home to be of excellent standards in all aspects. The highest care whether it be nursing or carers, the food is excellent so is the cleaning. The activities are all good for those able to partake. All of the staff are approachable and whenever I visit which is often they all have a friendly word and smile. I have only praise and would thoroughly recommend this nursing home.
