My mum has settled so well into Springfield & continues to thrive. She was so very poorly when she arrived in September 2024 with the excellent care, support & love the care team have got mum eating and given her interest in life once again. She loves to join in with a variety of activities & in forming
lovely relationships wtih the carers.

I was really pleased with the care and attentiveness shown by the staff and management at Springfield. They have a good range of activities and the lunch looked scrummy too!

My friend has been resident in the care home for over 7 years. I often find her dirty, smelly and wearing filthy clothes. I have spoken to staff about this and I am told my friendly refuses help to wash and change therefore she is left as I am told this her right. She smells as her inco pad is full
and overflowing (I change it when visiting), I help her wash and change. She does not ever leave her room except for a weekly bath.
I do not consider this is "care" for a 90 year old lady. I have watched the standard of care deteriorate.

Reply from Joanna Byles, Care Home Manager at Springfield Care Home

Thank you for sharing your concerns. I'm truly sorry to hear that you feel the care your friend is receiving is not meeting expectations. We take all feedback seriously, especially when it relates to our residents' wellbeing and dignity. As you mentioned, residents have the right to make their own choices and we are legally and ethically bound to respect them, even when care is declined. We have protocols in place to manage such situations sensitively. We remain in close contact with your friend's family, who are aware of the challenges and we met with them today to discuss how best to support her going forward. I'd welcome the opportunity to speak with you directly to better understand your concerns and discuss how we can improve. Please feel free to contact me.Joanna.

Overall a very good care home, with excellent staff. The lift though is very slow and old and breaks down regularly, moaning residents cannot leave their rooms.

Reply from Joanna Byles, Care Home Manager at Springfield Care Home

Thank you so much for your kind feedback about our care home and the dedication of our staff - it truly means a lot to us.We completely understand your concerns about the lift. Due to the age and original design of the building, we are somewhat limited in the type and size of lift we're able to install. However, we want to reassure you that we're doing everything we can within those constraints to ensure residents' comfort and mobility. The current lift is supported by a 24-hour emergency call-out service, with most issues resolved on the same day. In addition, we're pleased to share that we're in the process of installing a stairlift as a backup solution, so that residents can still move freely around the home even in the unlikely event of a lift breakdown. We're committed to providing a safe, accessible, and supportive environment for everyone in our care, and we truly appreciate your feedback as we continue to improve.

Overall a very good care home, any concerns are immediately dealt with. Staff are very respectful and patient with the residents and visitors. I would like to see a dedicated hairdressing room as using the hall toilets is awkward for the hairdresser and client.
An alternative route in case of lift
breakdown could be considered via a stair lift in the rear stairs.

Reply from Joanna Byles, Care Home Manager at Springfield Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to share your positive feedback about our care home. We're delighted to hear that you find our staff respectful and patient, and that any concerns are promptly addressed. Your suggestions are invaluable as we continually strive to enhance our services. We're pleased to inform you that we have plans to refurbish our facilities to include a downstairs wet room with hairdressing services in mind. This new space will provide a more comfortable and convenient environment for both clients and our hairdresser, eliminating the need to use the toilets. We appreciate your thoughtful feedback and are committed to continually improving our facilities to better serve our residents and visitors. The minute that we walked into Springfield, we knew that we had found the right environment for Mum. The staff are so welcoming and friendly and the interests of the residents were foremost in everyone's mind. Mum had a very outdated view of care homes and reacted very badly when she arrived in late
April of this year. The staff were so patient and supportive, not only of mum, but also of me as she continued to display challenging behaviours. By the end of the 2nd week, I was at the end of my tether and seriously considered an alternative option. Fast forward to the end of July and I am astounded at the difference. Mum is always happy and content. She has built a real fondness with the staff and is always very well presented and looks better than she has done for months! She is well nourished and now fully engaged with the activities and games that take place every day.

We chose Springfield Care Home for our dad a couple of months ago and are very pleased with the support and care given by all the staff.
There are a range of activities available, including a weekly Sunday service which was important to Dad.
The staff are very caring and have been very helpful with
the transition for my dad from his house into a home.
The rooms are well maintained. Dad chose a lovely room with an en-suite wet room for convenience.
Anything Dad needs, the team a available to support with the push of a simple button by his chair.
Thank you very much.

The staff are friendly and look after my mother's needs - nothing is too much trouble. They are happy in their work. My mum is pleased with her room, and we have brought some mementoes into her bedroom to remind her of her home. The residents seem happy. There are plenty of activities laid on, and the
home celebrates special dates such as birthdays with a party. There is a great variety of food, and in between snacks, tea and cakes are given to the residents, as well as visitors. The atmosphere around the home is happy and friendly.

Mum had been in hospital for some time, not eating, drinking or enjoying life. All has changed since she went to Springfield. She is now much stronger, happier and taking part in various activities. The staff have been wonderful, friendly, helpful and welcoming since our first visit. We know our mum
is well looked after and have no concerns about her wellbeing.

My daughter and I viewed several care homes for my husband who has Alzheimer’s. When we visited Springfield, initially for respite we knew instantly that we had found the one! The staff were very welcoming and friendly. We were also impressed with the resident's lounge, dining room and also the lovely
garden.
In December 2022 my husband went into the home permanently, he is being cared for extremely well by all the staff and is very happy. Nothing is too much trouble for all the lovely carers.
All the meals are freshly prepared, with a choice of menu every day.
There are activities daily and occasional trips out for a cream tea! All the residents and families really seem to enjoy the varied entertainment
We feel extremely happy knowing my husband is in such a caring environment and have no hesitation in recommending Springfield Care Home.

Overall excellent, especially with medical care, food excellent and a very pretty garden the residents can sit and enjoy the outdoors. Entertainment is laid on most days for the residents, a lounge that has a television, or if preferred, can have a television in their very comfortable rooms.

From the moment I entered Springfield Care Home, I was impressed. I was looking for somewhere for my mother, who has dementia. I had looked at over 15 other care homes.
The staff who greeted me were warm and friendly, and that goes for every member of staff I have encountered since. The decor is
very pleasing. The garden is lovely and relaxing.
My mum moved to Springfield in early June 2023. It was a worrying and upsetting time for my brothers and I. Our concerns had been that our mum might not settle and her dementia may worsen because of the change in her life, but the opposite has happened. With the stimulation and friendly atmosphere, she settled much quicker than we had anticipated. She regularly tells us she is happy and likes it there.

My mother moved to Springfield in June 2021. She was 88 and suffering from dementia. She had a beautiful room, ensuite with a view over the garden. Staff were attentive without fail, and daily kindness and compassion made this difficult transition more bearable for us all. An excellent weekly schedule
of appropriate activities means there is always something going on, even if residents would rather watch than participate. The menu is good with individual choices on offer if residents go "off their food". The hairdresser comes weekly and is lovely.
When all is well for residents, it may appear that the fees are high. The outstanding feature of Springfield is the team of staff. When things do become difficult through illness or anxiety, the care given is wonderful with 24-hour attention. My mother recently passed away there, and her final days were calm. She felt safe and she and the family were shown the greatest kindness and consideration. We will always be grateful.

I cannot praise Springfield highly enough. The team of lovely carers made my dad feel welcome from day one, and they have continued looking after him in a kind and respectful way. Dad has cognitive impairment and mobility issues, and all his needs are met by a team of cheerful, friendly staff. The team
leader is always available to answer any questions we may have regarding Dad's care. Thank you all.

My mum went into Springfield Nursing Home during the Covid lockdown. So this was extremely difficult for her family, as we weren't able to see where she was going to be living. (We could phone at any time to see how mum was doing). We shouldn't of worried because although we are still unable to see
the inside of the home (due to Covid) we are now able to visit mum and this is what I wanted to write about. My mum is so happy and extremely well cared for by all of the staff and she always talks about how lovely the food is. Staff are more than happy to talk to and support us also. I can only give the hugest of thanks to everyone who works at the home for everything they have done and continue to do for my mum. My mum is extremely precious to me and her family and we would only expect 100% love and care for her which we know she gets at Springfield. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I have found the standard of care good and of it, I have had no criticism that I can recall, so I would class care as excellent. Since the end of WW2, I have become increasingly involved in the welfare of the ex-services. I visited in North London many residential homes of one group, in particular,
those titles I withhold. I found in all, friendliness if not fellowship. On the introduction to residents at lunch on October 15th, I was shocked to find generally a complete absence of any fellowship. I concluded this was attributable to the difference in standards here, the care being such as to reduce motivation and apathy resulting. I have tried to counter this - I am certain staff to try.

Reply from Emma Bayley, Home Services Manager at Springfield Care Home

Thank you for your kind words about our excellent standard of care. We hope you were able to participate in the numerous activities and clubs that our residents regularly enjoy, from themed days, craft activities, our Gentlemen’s Club, which was enjoyed by many, and of course, our recent day of reflection which allowed us all to be connected through our experiences of the last year. We were delighted to welcome you to our family.

The assistance given by the home of my mothers administration was made easy which, was a blessing at the time, due to the COVID 19 pandemic. The home and their staff I feel have worked hard to keep the residents' spirits high, my mother has often told me this. Once the restrictions were lifted, I was
able to visit my mother again and she was always happy and always commented on how good the care was, and she was well looked after. I have always been met with a warm and friendly welcome on visiting and telephoning the home. I have found the staff and management very approachable and helpful with everything. These are difficult times and in the short time my mother has been a resident, I feel she is safe and well cared for, which is a comfort to myself and my brothers.

The process for admission was handled smoothly, including funding arrangements, keeping the family informed of developments. Staff liaised with relevant agencies/organisations including QA hospital, physiotherapy, and local GP. We have found the Springfield portal very useful to get an update of dad's
progress, as well as provide messages and photos of his grandchildren, particularly during his periods of isolation. The staff were very professional, supportive and friendly when my mother-in-law passed away, and treated the family with empathy and allowed as much time with her on the day as was needed.

My Dad has been a resident for just over a year. Springfield is a home from home as much as it is possible to be. I have seen other care homes and they seem more like a private hospital. My Dad can have furniture or anything to make him feel at home in his room. The management are very helpful and approachable
and are regularly seen around the home talking to the residents and staff. They genuinely seem to care. There is always a choice for meals, my Dad can have what he likes, which is important as he has dietary needs, the food is very good. Mum and I regularly have Sunday lunch with Dad and we are made to feel part of the "family". I couldn't wish for better staff they are all very caring and considerate of my Dad, nothing is too much trouble for them. The management and staff also care for us as a family knowing how upsetting it is for us not to be able to care for Dad at home. We feel included in Dad's care and know that he is in safe hands so we don't have to worry. Thank you, Springfield.

I am very happy with the care given to my mum, especially during this difficult time [covid19].
Although "Lockdown" of the home was upsetting for both Mum and the family, it is totally understandable and absolutely the right thing to do.
All the staff have been very caring and supportive of Mum and
us; sending photos, encouraging phone/video calls, facilitating us to be able to wave from a distance.
I cannot think of anything else you could have done to keep Mum safe.
Thank you for your care and support.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.096)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.096) out of 10 for Springfield Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.504 for Springfield Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (83 Excellents x 5) + (23 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 119 Ratings = 4.504

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.592 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Springfield Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 65 registered maximum number of service users is 13. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 13 = 0.692

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
