Reviews

6.3 Cooksditch House Nursing & Residential Home has a Review Score of 6.3 (6.299)

The Review Score of 6.3 (maximum of 10) for Cooksditch House Nursing & Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 2 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Cooksditch House Nursing & Residential Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 1.7 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 2 years. (A 2 year period has been used as there were no positive reviews in the last 12 months)

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.583 for Cooksditch House Nursing & Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (16 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 4.583

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 1.716 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cooksditch House Nursing & Residential Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 = 3.25 then divided by 2 = 1.625

    2. Target of 11 positive Reviews (55 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 2 Reviews ÷ 11 Target = 0.182 , then divided by 2 = 0.091

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

We found Cooksditch House when Mum needed nursing care. The understanding and care given was spot on. The manager understood her needs and ensured Mum was comfortable and that informed decisions were made. Mum totally trusted her, a big thing for her. The staff were always friendly and she enjoyed interacting with them - care given was excellent, and she was never alone for any length of time. The Dr/hospice team were well appraised of any changes which ensured she had the best possible care. I received regular updates and was always offered drinks/meals when visiting. I always felt confident Mum was safe and being cared for by professionals. I am certain she was in the right place and I know she felt the same way - she liked that her room was bright and clean and the food was so good; staff went out of their way to do nice things for her and she felt at home with the "family" feel that this engendered. I have already recommended Cooksditch to others and cannot thank you enough.

Choosing a care home for our loved ones is very difficult. What appears entirely suitable to start with may not suit them. My grandfather initially spent 2 months at another home and was deeply unhappy as there was not enough social interaction for him.

Granddad was not the easiest of patients initially and resented his loss of independence. Cooksditch balanced the needs of his mental well being with his physical needs and extended as much independence as was safe to do so. He soon settled down and realised that this isn't a prison, the home actively encouraging those that can to go out with their relatives to do the things they would ordinarily have done (coffee shop, pub, park, seaside).

The conservatory area is ideal in the summer, the more sociable residents chatting and enjoying the sunshine and a steady stream of staff passing through with a smile and a few words. It's not just about the physical needs but the mental wellbeing and many of the staff would find time in their busy schedules to just sit and talk with granddad.

Granddad passed away at the end of November in his room with his family happy, ready to go. The level of care in his last days was unparalleled, the manager sitting by his bedside holding his hand at 6am when he was scared until we could get there to be with him. Many of the staff treat patients as they would their own relatives and it's evident it's more than a job to them. I don't think we could have found a place better suited to granddad's needs.
