My sister has been a resident at this home for a few years. She has MS and she has a bright room to the front of this building. Unfortunately, she has not had hot water in her room for some two months, on my last visit last week, the heating was not working, a great worry for relatives with the weather
getting colder. I know it's an old building but maybe things need attention! The decorations in the interior are looking brighter and cleaner, a vast improvement.
Reply from Patricia Hurst, Manager at Patcham Nursing Home

Thank you for your review. We are carrying out a refurbishment of the home with newly painted corridors and new flooring.
Several rooms have already been redecorated. New flooring choices were given to your relative who chose her carpet colour, your relative declined the offer and the work was cancelled.
Monthly water temperature charts over 6 months show the average temperature has been between 37 to 39 degrees which is in the range of safe water temperatures. An engineer has checked the heating system plus water temperatures and all deemed in working order.
We always welcome feedback and would encourage you to please inform us of any concerns at the time of your visits. You can do this by speaking with the manager or the nurse in charge to enable actions to be arranged in a timely manner.
We aim to provide a safe, caring and responsive service, therefore, your comments are valued.

Resident very well cared for, family always made very welcome, and staff cannot do enough for us all. Never feel like a visitor, we feel like family as soon as we enter the home. Very clean. Have enjoyed excellent meals with the resident.

Mum has been here for 2 months now and settled in really well, with the help of all the staff. She has been looked after so well and loved everyone. Everyone is so welcoming to me and the rest of the family and it really has a "home from home" feel to the place. Thanks, everyone. Much appreciated.

Dad had a fantastic stay at Patcham Nursing Home. The staff were wonderful, kind and considerate with him and us, his family. The garden was a joy to behold. Dad was up most days in the living room and seemed to enjoy to company and entertainment. I felt the staff had a real connection to dad and they
were always telling me stories of what he'd been up to and said.

Generally greeted by cheerful staff. My brother is very well looked after with empathetic care. Diet here is healthy and generous with choice and enough variety. The property and furnishing at present are being revamped to high standards. The glorious garden is a delight.

It was looking like a holiday cottage. I believe that is important to look pretty (especially garden). Also, that was nice to visit him at any time suit our lives. While we visit him, our children were playing in the garden. Nobody stopped them (which is so nice). In addition, it was great to see him
from his window when he is not able to accept us.

My mother was admitted/referred to Patcham Nursing Home in February of 2018. My mother had always been against care home care but once she arrived she settled in very well. The post-cancer, ongoing care and medical treatment that she required was excellent. The nurses and carers were incredibly loving,
supportive and always made my sister and I welcome whenever we came to visit which was every other day some weeks i.e. we celebrated her birthday in the care home as if it was her own front room. Sadly, my mother passed away in June, something that remains with me is the support and care the nurses and team gave to my sister and I on her last day. It was a very traumatic day and night for us but what might be traumatic for us is a fairly regular occurrence for the home but they treated us both with huge support, respect and the dignity my mother deserved right up to the end. This is a fabulous, caring and very supportive care home. Thank you for everything you did for my mother and my family.

My mum was transferred to Patcham after having brain surgery to remove a secondary cancerous tumour. She was 74 and had not recovered from the surgery. The staff were so caring to her and despite having a short life expectancy, my mum felt a quality of life and personalised care. At the final last days,
the staff were amazing to myself and my brother. My mum passed peacefully and we knew she was well looked after in her final hours. Thank you.

After several weeks in hospital, critically ill, my sister was transferred to Patcham Nursing Home in Brighton. Prior to this she had been in the care of another home where she had been badly neglected which resulted in my sister having severe bed sores, falls, which caused septicemia! My sister is
a type 1 diabetic and has heart failure. The compassionate ongoing care she is receiving in Patcham is to be commended. The staff from manager, RN and all the nurses and carers are excellent!

Carers very caring people and all very friendly. Very good at their job. Family atmosphere. Looked after my mum very well. She was not the easiest of people, due to her conditions, to look after but they always make sure her edges were on the bed and bedsides were up. Never once did I have to say about
this, not like other homes my mum was in. I was constantly having to complain. Would have been nice to have sent some flowers and card for her funeral.

The menus were ample with a choice of foods at every course and some you didn't think they would have, it's all there. There was a resident chiropodist and entertainments manager. A staff member would come in and do the ladies hair once a week on Friday. Wednesday a musician came in for an hour. IT'S
JUST THERE - WHATEVER YOU WANTED - IT WAS THERE. A resident tended the garden whenever he was able. I'm afraid I was there just one week, then I stayed another week, then another week until my 6 weeks were up. Then I said to the staff, can I stay longer? They all agreed that I could except NHS (they said NO) so 6 weeks for the best holiday (respite) that I could have. I can only remember some of the names but all had that friendly face that you want when you are ill.
So thank you, all of you.

I cannot fault this amazing nursing home. My mother has had the best care one could wish for. Whenever I go to visit, I ask the first carer or nursing staff where my mother is and they immediately know and guide me to where she is.
Her room is always clean and tidy and her clothes, both in the wardrobe
and in the draws are neat and always tidy. The staff are the same as when my mother went there four years ago. Which is always a good sign. The people from the catering staff right through to the top are lovely caring people. I can honestly say I haven't had a days worry since my mother went into their excellent home.
Highly recommend this place. A big thank you to all the staff from a very grateful daughter.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.424)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.424) out of 10 for Patcham Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.824 for Patcham Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (59 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 68 Ratings = 4.824
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Patcham Nursing Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 6 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
