Reviews

6.5 Upper Mead has a Review Score of 6.5 (6.460)

The Review Score of 6.5 (maximum of 10) for Upper Mead is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 4 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Upper Mead in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 1.9 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 2 years. (A 2 year period has been used as there were no positive reviews in the last 12 months)

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.553 for Upper Mead is calculated as follows: ( (30 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 47 Ratings = 4.553

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 1.907 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Upper Mead is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.5 then divided by 2 = 1.750

    2. Target of 9.6 positive Reviews (48 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 3 Reviews ÷ 9.6 Target = 0.313 , then divided by 2 = 0.157

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

I am very grateful for the level of care that my mother has received since she moved to Upper Mead in May 2014.

Whenever I visit my mother, (1) there is invariably a smiling face to greet me - be it a resident, nurse or carer, (2) the manager’s door is “always open" (3) answers to any questions I might have are always provided knowledgeably and promptly and (4) most importantly, my mother is happy. Moreover, whenever she has had a health issue, I have been notified immediately and kept informed of any changes to her condition. I have no concerns that she is at risk.

The staff are very helpful, attentive and friendly; nothing seems to be too much trouble for them and I think the Manager, does an amazing job. It is plain for all to see that the principle reason for this is that she is devoted and cares greatly about her residents and staff. In turn, the reason her residents and staff are happy must have a huge amount to do with her.

My husband has been cared for in the Chestnut Unit at Upper Mead for the past 18mths. He is content, always smiling at the carers and other residents. He will greet a carer who may have been out of his sight for a while with enthusiasm, he seems to feel they are his family. He is always clean and tidy, his clothes are well laundered. There is a full programme of activities available, he is not really interested in doing anything now, but he is given the opportunity, and encouraged, to participate. He enjoys the homely cooked meals.
When I do find something I am not happy about I discuss with the manager and/or the administrator, they are always approachable and helpful.
I am pleased to have found such a happy place for my husband to be looked after.

In general I am my husbands care. However when well - he was very particular about his appearance and dressed well. Too often I find him looking untidy - ill matching clothing - which is frequently not his own.

Our 93 year old mother moved to Upper Mead in June 2014 after suffering several falls and blackouts at home. She had always been a very independent lady, and we were worried whether she would cope with a move at this stage in her life. However, from the moment Mum arrived at Upper Mead, the Manager and her lovely team made her feel so welcome and included that she settled in with absolutely no problems and has made new friends.
The staff treat all the residents with respect, humour, dignity and care. They are unfailingly kind and patient and take the time to get to know everyone as an individual.
Mum really enjoys taking part in the excellent activity program that takes place every morning and afternoon, but if on occasion she decides to have a quiet afternoon in her room one of the carers will often pop in to sit and chat with her.
The food at Upper Mead is tasty, varied and plentiful. Always freshly cooked and well presented. Cups of tea in the afternoon are often accompanied by home baked cakes!
All in all I can't speak highly enough of Upper Mead. The Manager and all the staff do a tremendous job and have created a warm and friendly community.
