I really didn't realise, at the beginning of last year my husband would end up in a care home, in September '25 he became a resident, everybody was very kind and thoughtful, all of the senior staff and caring staff were just so unbelievable very friendly ,there was nothing that was to much trouble, my social worker when doing the assessment at the Care Home contacted me and said she had been in many care home but never One like Derwent Lodge, It was just amazing and How clean and helpful everybody is that work there , I myself enjoy very much going down with my husband and joining in with the fun and games, they have lots of activities in the week, and I would like to thank everybody involved with the Care that my husband receives. Upper Mead is simply wonderful, and I would highly recommend it. My dad has been here for a few weeks, and the transformation in him is incredible. He seems so happy and settled. Every member of staff are exceptionally dedicated. They are kind, compassionate, always smiling and take wonderful care of all his personal needs. The manager Lynn is lovely and is always around to make sure everyone is ok. The entire home is spotlessly clean, and the open-plan layout is fantastic. It is amazing for my dad in his wheelchair because he loves watching people come and go. It's peaceful yet vibrant, with always someone there to cheer him up. To top it all off, the food is incredible-my dad eats everything. Knowing he is so well cared for in such a wonderful environment gives us complete peace of mind.

My dad has been at Upper Mead for a month after transferring from another nursing home, and the experience has been so refreshing. From the moment he arrived, everyone has been welcoming, smiling, and kind. We have received feedback about how my dad is doing, which is important to us. The food is lovely, the activities are great, and we are genuinely happy knowing that my dad is being so well cared for.

My father Mr Derrick J was well looked after in Upper Mead Care home. All the staff spent a great deal of time caring for my fathers needs. Dad was very grateful for the way they looked after him. Dad was a 100yrs old when he passed away. I would recommend this home as one of the best. Thank you to all the wonderful staff and well never forget you all.

These experiences left me without confidence in the care provided, and I ultimately brought him home after four days. I would strongly recommend visiting the home personally before agreeing to a placement.

This care home is superb. It is homely and care is personalised. My father was at the home for just a few weeks for end of life care. Communication was good throughout. There is always a warm welcome and staff take their time to get to know you. This is not a modern, newly built home, but that does not dictate the care. Thank you for looking after my father at the end of his life.

Our Mum moved into Upper Mead in May 2026, and since she has been there we have noticed a change in her, she has put on weight, laughing more, and talking more. This is all down to the staff at the home. A special thank you to Steph. The staff really care about the residents and they are very well looked after. When you visit the staff make you feel welcome, a really lovely atmosphere.

My father has been a resident of this incredible place since September 2025, and I cannot emphasise how utterly brilliant this home is. They are so kind to my dad and also the care is so good. They are attentive and provide so much support for him. Having lived independently for so long, I was worried he would not be settled, but he settled in so quickly because of the love and kindness he receives at Upper Mead. I am very keen to ensure everyone knows how awesome this home is.

Staff are excellent at this home; Trevor is content here and kept extremely clean and comfortable. They are very attentive to their patients here. Cannot fault them in any way. I would highly recommend this home to anyone.

Just a note about all the staff works at Derwent Lodge Care Home are all doing a wonderful job supporting everyone live there the rooms are always nice clean and tidy the cleaning staff are all doing a great job and the cooking staff is little bit foor the food should do some healthy meals like salads lots of healthy meals my mother is in a care home are doing a great job by supporting her to

Myself and my daughters wanted to say how exceptional the Manager and all the staff are at Ullswater Cottage. My husband was admitted for respite care, but he really did not want to leave home, understandably. The staff have shown him nothing but compassion, kindness and care at such a difficult time, and he now is luckily enough to stay on as a permanent resident.

The staff worked hard but there were times when Derwent Lodge was understaffed.

I recently visited my father at Derwent Lodge and was so impressed by the high standards of cleanliness, organisation, and professionalism throughout the home. But what really stood out was the warmth, kindness, and good humour of the staff - everyone had a smile and genuine care for the residents. Derwent Lodge is a caring and happy place, they do an outstanding job, and it means the world to our family.

Mum often needed a handhold when she felt anxious, and the staff always took the time to accommodate this. Thank you so much, it meant a lot to her and us.

Our Mum moved into Derwent Lodge in January 2024 with advanced dementia and COPD. The early days were challenging, but the team showed patience, kindness, and professionalism throughout. Over time, Mum settled in, started joining activities, and became part of the Derwent family. The care she received was outstanding. In her final weeks, we were welcomed to stay by her side 24/7, and the compassion shown to both Mum and our family was beyond words. Every member of staff played a part in giving her dignity, peace, and comfort. We will always be grateful for the love and support we received.

Staff are always polite and helpful. I came to read to a resident and they always are very willing to help by providing a chair and a drink. During our visits they are kind to the resident and ourselves.
