Wellcross Grange is rated “OUTSTANDING” by the Care Quality Commission (August 2022). The family owned and run nursing home is rated in the top 4% nationally.

Wellcross Grange is a family owned and run nursing home located in an attractive country home set in three acres of lawned grounds complete with duck and koi pond for residents to enjoy.

Wellcross' fantastic team of permanent staff allows it to consistently deliver personalised and outstanding nursing care in a relaxed and friendly environment for up to 45 residents. There is a strong focus on quality training of staff, which always drives care provision, and they strive to improve the lifestyle and well-being of adults with many specialist conditions.

They have a mixture of rooms in the home to choose from, these range from large traditional rooms to more modern special purpose ones, most have ensuite facilities. All rooms have a nurse call system as standard and residents are encouraged to bring their own personal effects with them which allows residents to personalise their room and make them feel at home.

The inhouse chef allows Wellcross to deliver a tasty and varied menu and cater for any special dietary requirements a resident may have. Residents also benefit from the regular visits made by a hairdresser, physiotherapist and chiropodist.

They make a special effort to retain strong links with the surrounding community and have several local groups and volunteers actively visiting the home, in addition to the inhouse activities.

Deciding on care can be a daunting proposition for many people and they are more than happy to answer any question you may have. Please feel free to get in touch if you would like more information.

My mother has been resident at Wellcross Grange for over one year. The care she receives is top-class. We couldn't ask for better care. She is happy here. All her needs are catered for to a very high standard. Mum is kept busy with a varied and full activities programme. They think of everything! The
staff team are dedicated and caring. They are well-trained in all aspects of elderly patient care. Many of the staff have worked at Wellcross for a significant length of time which indicates a happy workplace.

I would like to say a huge thank you and appreciation to all the staff and management at Wellcross Grange, for their outstanding, personal, high-quality and kind care they gave me. I stayed at Wellcross for a two weeks respite stay. I am a Tetraplegic following an accident, and so require detailed personal
and medical care. The services, care and environment at Wellcross are excellent. The management were extremely attentive, detailed and responsive with me, and all the staff, from handyman and cleaners to nurses and doctors, were extremely friendly, caring and adaptable to me at all times. Even in my more complicated situation, they were very flexible and resourceful responding to my sometimes unusual and specialised needs. Always with a can-do and pleasant, caring attitude. The environment and atmosphere at Wellcross is lovely; the food was always delicious and varied, and the house and gardens provide a beautiful location and ambience. Highly recommended. I will be coming back.

My mother has been a resident at Wellcross Grange for over three years. Throughout this time the standard of care has been excellent. She always seems happy, undoubtedly due to the staff interacting with residents and encouraging them to join in activities. She is always clean, as are her clothes, room
and communal areas. The family is kept well informed of all medical developments. Every member of staff we meet is friendly and helpful. It seems they don't just care for people, they care about them.

Our mother has been a resident at Wellcross Grange for just over 12 months. We have been absolutely delighted with the team, the facilities and the care Mum has received. The management team could not have been more attentive and receptive to any questions we have had. Mum is always positive about the
care team and loves the activities that are offered. Having experienced other nursing homes we know what good and bad care looks like. Wellcross offers excellent care.

As a family we had to make the very difficult decision to place our Dad into a nursing home for end-of-life care in late August 2024. After looking at different settings and speaking to friends we visited Wellcross Grange, from the moment we entered the beautiful grounds and house we knew that this
would be the best place for Dad. We were so fortunate that Dad was able to spend his 3 short weeks at Wellcross Grange, after a very stressful few months in hospital it was a breath of fresh air to be with people who are so devoted to offering an exceptional level of care at all times. Dad was treated with dignity, respect and amazing nursing care - this care was also passed on to us as a family when we were struggling to cope at such a sad and distressing time. We as a family will be forever grateful to everyone who supported us throughout this short time - Thank you is not enough Manager and all the wonderful staff!

Our parents were only here for 6-18 months respectively but in that time Wellcross Grange became a part of the family. All staff were really friendly and welcoming. Our parents were well cared for and the staff would always contact us if they were unwell or needed anything. They were also supportive
of us as a family and they still offer us support after our parents have passed away, welcoming us when we visit the home.

I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the staff and management at Wellcross Grange for the exceptional care provided to my dear friend during his stay. The professionalism and compassion demonstrated by the team made a significant difference in his quality of life, especially given his mobility
impairment. The facilities at Wellcross Grange are outstanding, and the beautifully maintained grounds create a peaceful and inviting atmosphere. It's evident that the well-being of the residents is a top priority. I highly recommend Wellcross Grange to anyone seeking a safe, caring, and responsive environment for their loved ones. The staff truly go above and beyond, making it a wonderful place for care. Thank you for all that you do!

Me and my family have had a terrible experience while my late great-grandmother was in there care. I wouldn't recommend anyone to send their loved ones to be "cared" for at this nursing home. They have treated my great-grandmother so poorly she ended up receiving a broken toe while being in their care
although she was bed-bound and had no mobility at all. Her health and hygiene were mistreated before she passed away she was found to have fungal thrush. The doctor said it had been from having poor oral care, which resulted in her mouth becoming black inside. We then approached the nursing home with questions regarding how she had received these problems and she was then a week later evicted.
Reply from Management, Wellcross Nursing Home at Wellcross GrangeDear Jack, we can only repeat what we wrote in response to the very similar negative reviews recently posted by your mother, mother’s partner and grandmother. Our staff have the right to work in an environment free from abuse and harassment, in any form, from visitors. Your family did not respect this policy, or our staff, and this is the reason for the requisite notice being served to the local authority, and for the necessity for us to involve the police. We reject your claims as spurious and believe them to have been posted in malice. Your family’s continued threats and harassment of our staff and home, which includes these reviews, speak volumes and have been forwarded to the police.

I'm writing a review regarding my nan-in-law about the services she received at Welcross Grange care home. I believe that she was ill-treated and that the services that she received were not great at all, she received a broken toe and ended up with fungal thrush in her mouth which was really bad. The
care manager and owner of this care home are a joke because neither of them wanted to take responsibility for my nan-in-law wellbeing at the care home, and when asked about her clothing and other personal belongings they both denied that nothing had gone missing when in fact her belongings were missing. The care home manager assured me that my nan-in-law was being looked after to the best of their ability which I believe isn't true because my nan-in-law was bed bound so someone please explain how on earth did she end up with a broken toe and fungal thrush in her mouth if she was being looked after? I also believe that the care home needs to be investigated.

My father has been a resident of Wellcross for a couple of years now and throughout this time the level of care has been very high. Every member of staff, from the front office, care staff, cleaners and maintenance make you feel welcome when visiting and are friendly and helpful.
The food is a particular
highlight- considering the different dietary requirements residents may have meals are well presented and enjoyable.
The working culture at Wellcross is very strong, if a member of staff is having a busy day or just popping in to fix something, bring laundry etc they all take the time to check in on my father to see how he's getting on and are happy to help with anything you need.
Reply from Bryson Gifford, Operations Director at Wellcross GrangeDear Will, thank you for the kind review. We are delighted to hear that you feel the culture in the home is very strong. This means a great deal to our team. It is a pleasure caring for your father and we are grateful for your support.

I wouldn't recommend anyone put their members of family in this care home. Well it shouldn't be called a care home because it is far from a care home. My mother was subjected to a few incidents in this place. 1st she had a male resident get in her room, lock the door and get in her bed, 2nd she was
manhandled in personal care which resulted in a broken bone, 3rd she ended up with fungal mouth thrush due to lack of proper mouth care which was actually disgusting, and 4th she had personal belongings go missing from her room including her clothing and had her clothing damaged. When challenged about these issues the management used the behaviour of the family for a reason to evict an 83 yr old woman, absolutely diabolical. This care home brings shame on the care home system and shouldn't be allowed to practice as your loved one is just a money sign to these people, not a human being.

My father was a resident at Wellcross Grange for 2.5 years. During his time at Wellcross, he was very well looked after in a very professional way. The staff are caring, professional, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The staff always go out of their way for the residents. The home is a small,
family-run company and this is really shown in the service provided and the atmosphere that is created in the home. The grounds of the home have a superb view.
My father settled into Wellcross as his new home and he was very happy during his time. This gave the family a lot of comfort. The management and finance teams are very helpful and prompt in responding to all communication.
My father sadly passed away in August this year and we can only thank the Wellcross team for the care and compassion that they showed my Father and the family during this time.
A big thank you to the whole Team for looking after and supporting my father during his time at Wellcross.

Please don't ever put your family members in here. The carers ended up breaking my nan's toe and getting a fungal infection and can't explain how this happened and then gave her an eviction without telling any of her family members until a day before. Awful home, had to put 1 star but it should be no
stars they don't care how they treat residents.

Your family did not respect this policy, or our staff, and this is the reason for the requisite notice being served to the local authority. For factual accuracy and as previously explained, and verified by external clinicians, your nan experienced a pathological fracture to her toe - i.e. from an underlying condition rather than impact-related.

Mum has been at Wellcross Grange for almost 11 months now. The transition from home to a care home is a big step - the staff at Wellcross have been and are the most caring, attentive people and have made her feel safe and welcome and an important part of the kind community at Wellcross at all times.
The
activities, food, cleaning and laundry are also very good and much appreciated. Thank you always for your cheerfulness and kindness towards both mum and I.

While the facilities and activities are certainly very good, the best thing about Wellcross is the staff, from cleaners, cooks, and laundry all the way up through the nurses and management staff. They do all they can to create a genuine sense of family and community, giving residents something to look
forward to every day. Every request has been taken seriously and actioned and the staff go above and beyond the normal expectations unhesitatingly. We could not have hoped for a better environment for my dad.

We've noticed a real improvement in my uncle's mental health since he moved to Wellcross Grange.
We really appreciate the calmness and friendliness of the home. The staff go the extra mile to develop relationships with the residents. Being a small family-run business is really reflected in the level
of care which cannot be replicated by the big companies.
My uncle said, "You get what you pay for don't you". I couldn't have said it better myself.

I cannot praise everyone associated with the care of my father enough for the 18 months he spent in the home, the care and management are second to none and every time I or any member of my family visited we were all welcomed in with open arms and treated as part of the family of Wellcross Grange and
I would have no qualms in highly recommending the home to anyone looking for a placement for any of their loved ones.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.318)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.318) out of 10 for Wellcross Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 33 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.318 for Wellcross Grange is calculated as follows: ( (288 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (48 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 390 Ratings = 4.318
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wellcross Grange is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
