Wellcross Grange is rated “OUTSTANDING” by the Care Quality Commission (August 2022). The family owned and run nursing home is rated in the top 4% nationally.

Wellcross Grange is a family owned and run nursing home located in an attractive country home set in three acres of lawned grounds complete with duck and koi pond for residents to enjoy.

Wellcross' fantastic team of permanent staff allows it to consistently deliver personalised and outstanding nursing care in a relaxed and friendly environment for up to 45 residents. There is a strong focus on quality training of staff, which always drives care provision, and they strive to improve the lifestyle and well-being of adults with many specialist conditions.

They have a mixture of rooms in the home to choose from, these range from large traditional rooms to more modern special purpose ones, most have ensuite facilities. All rooms have a nurse call system as standard and residents are encouraged to bring their own personal effects with them which allows residents to personalise their room and make them feel at home.

The inhouse chef allows Wellcross to deliver a tasty and varied menu and cater for any special dietary requirements a resident may have. Residents also benefit from the regular visits made by a hairdresser, physiotherapist and chiropodist.

They make a special effort to retain strong links with the surrounding community and have several local groups and volunteers actively visiting the home, in addition to the inhouse activities.

Deciding on care can be a daunting proposition for many people and they are more than happy to answer any question you may have. Please feel free to get in touch if you would like more information.

My mother-in-law spent three very happy years living at Wellcross Grange. My wife initially went to visit Wellcross and had no doubt that it would be the caring, friendly home that it is. The staff are really fantastic. You can tell it's not just a job but a genuine love of what they do. They become
friends and Wellcross really has a family feel about it. Residents with dementia are treated with dignity and respect and are included in all the activities in the home. Activities are wide ranging from arts and crafts, exercises, games, floristry and singalongs to name a few. My wife was always contacted when her Mum needed a prescription or visit from her GP and updated of any change in her health. Despite the difficulties of having dementia my MIL's personal care such as washing, dressing and personal grooming were exemplary. The dining facilities and meals served were always very good and we were always welcome to pop at anytime which I think speaks volumes in itself.

My husband was in a care home too far away from me, so I looked in the local area for somewhere he could transfer to. Wellcross stood out as being the best option. Also, it was the only one that had a CQC rating of Outstanding and I feel this is well deserved. It is family owned and run and the atmosphere
is very welcoming and friendly. It is very helpful (for both residents and family members) that there is continuity with the same staff. I am very happy with the care my husband is receiving, especially the kindness, attentiveness, patience and professionalism of everyone. It is obvious that the staff really care about the residents. The range of activities provided is excellent and the activity co-ordinators are very good at encouraging my husband to join in. The food is healthy and delicious. I am always made welcome when I visit. Whenever I have any queries or questions, they are always addressed very promptly. My heartfelt thanks to the Managers and all the team.

My mum has made Wellcross her home for the past 2.5 years. When she first arrived she was confused & scared, the staff quickly settled her in making her feel safe & welcome. She has continued to receive the very best personal care by the friendly, caring staff, who always show her genuine compassion
and kindness. Although my mum sadly can't always join in with the daily themed craft, quizzes & exercise activities, she is always invited and encouraged to do what she can. She particularly enjoys the professional singers & entertainers who regularly visit the home. She likes the home cooked food and looks forward to her afternoon coffee & cake, which they always kindly offer to me too. The continuity of the permanent, friendly staff makes Wellcross so special - they know her and she knows them, making her feel safe, comfortable and well cared for.

After initially struggling to settle, Mum did eventually come to accept living at the home, although it was not easy for her. There were aspects of care that we appreciated. However, we had serious concerns about her care towards the end of her life. In particular, we felt communication with the family
could have been much better, especially given that we held health and welfare power of attorney. There were decisions around her medication and wellbeing that we did not feel fully informed about at the time. Her condition deteriorated and she was later admitted to hospital, where she sadly died. We remain distressed about how events were handled and feel that, in our view, some of this situation might have been managed differently. This has been a devastating experience for our family, and we hope lessons can be learned.
Reply from Bryson Gifford, Operations Director at Wellcross GrangeWe recognise how difficult it can be when a loved one's health declines, and we are grateful for your feedback and for highlighting aspects of care valued during your mother's time with us in 2024 and early 2025.

While we cannot comment on individual circumstances publicly, we can offer some general context. In adult social care, when a resident is assessed as having mental capacity in a specific area, they have the legal right to make their own decisions-even if these involve risk. Our role is to respect those choices while continuing to monitor, support, and involve appropriate healthcare professionals.

For example, if a resident chooses to refuse treatment to preserve their dignity, their wishes must be respected. We understand how difficult this can be for families, but it would not be appropriate or lawful to override such decisions.

Although some time has passed, our offer to meet with you remains open

During my mother's time at Wellcross, the staff and Management were superb, always having time to update me on mums condition with any changes to her condition. Their care for mum was top quality , they also always had time for my father on his weekly three visits. They still keep an eye on him now
when he comes to visit mums memorial bench in the grounds.
Reply from Bryson Gifford, Operations Director at Wellcross GrangeDear Steve,

Thank you for your kind review - it really means a great deal to the team. We also truly appreciate the memorial bench you have donated; I'm sure it will be well used and enjoyed over the summer.

As part of our Wellcross family, you are always very welcome here and we look forward to your visits. It was a privilege to look after your mother, and thank you for trusting us with her care. The team have also really enjoyed getting to know you and your family.

I would very much like to thank all the staff at Wellcross Grange Nursing Home, where my mum has been a resident for the last 15 months. She is a lovely, happy and content lady in her 90s, living with Alzheimer's, and the care she receives is exceptional. The team show genuine kindness, patience and
empathy every day, always treating my mum with dignity and respect and ensuring she is comfortable and content. There is a warm, friendly and family-run atmosphere throughout the home, which makes a real difference to both residents and their families. The staff are professional, attentive and compassionate, and it is clear that they genuinely care about the people they look after. The home also provides services such as hairdressing, podiatry and other personal care, which really add to residents' comfort, dignity and quality of life. As a family, we have complete confidence and peace of mind knowing that my mum is in such kind and dedicated hands at Wellcross Grange.

Mum has been at Wellcross for a few years now. She is very well looked after. All the staff are so friendly and caring. The management team communicate with us regularly and inform us immediately when anything is not right with her. They are great.
I can't fault them. The food is delicious. They organise
plenty of activities. The home is clean and homely and we are always made welcome when we visit.

I cannot recommend Wellcross Grange highly enough. My mother-in-law is a resident, and it is clear this is a care home built around kindness, dignity and genuine respect. She receives excellent, truly personalised care, and the staff are highly professional, knowledgeable and compassionate, with a real
family culture where people genuinely care. The standard of both personal and medical care is outstanding, and the administration is efficient, well organised and reassuring. There is a wide range of activities and themed entertainment, and although her condition limits participation, the atmosphere is warm and positive. The meals are excellent and can be tailored to individual needs. Having looked at several care homes in the Horsham area, Wellcross Grange stood out immediately, and we feel very fortunate she is in their care.

My Mum found Wellcross a very friendly and welcoming place. It was a big step for her to go into a care home as she had lived on her own for twenty years after my dad passed away. She soon settled in and said that she wished she had made the move earlier instead of struggling at home. She particularly
enjoyed the exercise classes, quizzes and musical entertainment. We both enjoyed relaxing in the beautiful garden and the summer garden party. As Wellcross is only small you get continuity with the same staff who become friends. It is a comfort to me that my Mum's last months were happy.

We moved both mum and dad to Wellcross Grange in October 2024. It was the best decision we made, it gave us peace of mind knowing they are closer to us, and well looked after, and happy. Sadly, mum passed away in March, and the staff and management were so supportive in our loss, and looking after my
dad, during these difficult times. Dad is well looked after, seeing him happy and smiling, takes the stress of worrying about a loved one.

The staff at Wellcross Grange, are very professional, and genuinely care about the residents. If I had any concerns, it would be looked into it immediately, and kept updated on any changes. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and it shows in how content dad is living there. The Management at Wellcross Grange have been so helpful and supportive, and a big thank you to Management and the team.

My wife has been in your care for just over three years. She has Dementia and therefore can't tell me about her experiences or opinions of her care. The atmosphere with nurses and staff is friendly and inspires confidence. I know my wife eats well, as she has always, and the standard of food as seen
from the menus and experienced is excellent. The home and the rooms are kept clean, and my wife appears clean, with clean clothes, except for the spills, again, which I have experienced, nails, teeth, and hair kept to a good standard. I therefore assume she is showered regularly. The proof is that she has a definite good relationship with the home, even at the expense, slightly, of her family. I am very happy with the current situation.

Exceptional care was extended by all members of staff. Attention to needs and detail is second to none. Care is taken not only to look after the welfare of residents but also the families of the residents. Nothing is ever too much trouble, and if an issue is raised, protocols are put into place to rectify
matters immediately.

My Aunt is safe and well cared for by a team who combine professionalism with real heart. Our family had a significant challenge being based overseas and Wellcross responded magnificently to some really tight deadlines when our Aunt was unwell. Transitioning someone suddenly from their home to professional
care is challenging and I was impressed by the flexibility of Wellcross Grange while I was trying to pull everything together operating out of my travel bag. My Aunt's health has improved and she is smiling. While I know she naturally misses her home and old routines I get the sense she knows she is safe and protected and as a bonus there is new social interaction with the Wellcross team and other residents if she so chooses.

My rating reflects the enormous yearly fee increases imposed by DSL Care Ltd, trading as Wellcross Grange Care Home, not the quality of the care or the staff.
Back in January 2021 my relative was being charged £3,410 per month. In November 2024 I was informed of the latest increase to £7,500 per month,
effective from 1 January 2025. That's an increase of almost 120% compared to 2021.
I tried raising the subject with the company but this did not produce any change, not even after I said that I would have to consider moving my relative. So, despite him having been a resident at Wellcross Grange for many years, I was left with no choice. As his power of attorney I have a duty to safeguard his finances and the escalating fees made his continued stay there untenable.
I'm pleased to say he is now in a new home and is very content, and while Wellcross Grange was charging £7,500 per month, he is now being charged £5,930 monthly for comparable care and facilities.
Reply from Campbell Lyle, Managing Director at Wellcross GrangeThank you for taking the time to leave a review and for clarifying that your concern related to cost rather than care. For some context, our home has had the privilege of providing care for your uncle for 30 years. During this time, we've watched him age, and naturally, his care needs have evolved. This increase in care needs is the primary reason for the fee adjustments, which we had previously communicated. When a resident's falls risk or personal care requirements grow, we must allocate additional staff time to ensure they receive the best possible care. While inflation and government legislation have certainly impacted care providers in general, it is the increased care needs that have been the main factor in the price changes. We understand that there may be more affordable options out there, but we believe that the high quality of care at our home remains a key differentiator. We are saddened that he was unable to remain in our care and wish you luck in his new placement.

With the incredibly hard decision of moving our Mum to a care home, we couldn't have asked for more. All the staff are so welcoming, caring and supportive, not only to Mum but they recognise us, as family, as part of the whole Wellcross community. Mum is very settled and treated with care, respect and
dignity, as an individual. Staff make every effort to always listen to anything we feel Mum would need or want. The environment is extremely welcoming whatever time or day it is. Wellcross staff value their residents and do all they can to engage them and truly know them. They have daily activities and visitors to bring interest to the day. It feels very much like an extended family. We could not have asked for a better place, with kind-hearted staff. Thank you.

The residents are treated with dignity and given efficient care and support at all times. The home is clean and tidy with lovely grounds and pond, which are a plus in the spring and summer months. In addition, nurses and doctor are always available, if necessary, to check and ensure all are healthy and free from any viruses. The wellbeing of residents is of prime importance.
