St Peter's House Care Home

From the first contact I had with St Peter's staff in March 2023, I and my family have been treated with care, respect and humour by all the staff. Staff have gone above and beyond to ensure he and us are well cared for. I/we couldn't ask for a better home for his last months or years.

A warm, welcoming reception on arrival, very clean everywhere. It was good to see that our friend's room included a few pieces of her own furniture and that everything she needed was to hand. Our friend has limited movement so it was lovely to see she was dressed nicely and that her personal hygiene was well looked after. The staff we met on our visits were friendly and well informed of our friends condition and requirements.

Fantastic staff with good management operating a tired and under-maintained building and garden. However, the garden is being improved (very important), and rooms are being refurbished. So we have seen great improvement in the last five months.

I cannot recommend St Peter's House highly enough. My father, with advanced dementia, became a resident in July 2021 and stayed there until he died at the end of January this year. As well as seeing how friendly and kind all the staff were, both to my father and other residents, I particularly valued the care and concern shown towards my mother while visiting; they understand instinctively that relatives can also be vulnerable and need support. I also felt they offered superb end-of-life care, regularly keeping us informed about Dad's condition, making sure he was comfortable at all times and handling all aspects of his eventual passing so sensitively and well. I always felt with St Peters that Dad was absolutely in the right place. To see him relaxed and calm when visiting and see how cheery he was with the staff there was so heartening. I have a strong sense that St Peter's staff respect the people in their care and are truly committed to offering them the best possible experience.

St Peter's House has offered complete peace of mind with round the clock care. My mother is ninety-five and with poor vision couldn't cope any longer on her own at home. Staff are happy and inclusive around residents and trained to meet individual needs, the managers are very open and in fact welcome input from families to ensure their relatives are fulfilled and can cope with their new home environment. This is new territory for relatives as well and every effort is made to meet our needs which is a great comfort. The home is bright, clean and airy and there is a calmness, although there is a lot going on most days, residents are shown respect and privacy if they so wish. We like the fact that whatever your stage in the process of ageing, this home is inclusive and diverse.

The home is clean and welcoming - staff are helpful and friendly to both residents and family visitors. The residents are treated with the dignity they deserve.

The staff are extremely welcoming, charming and lovely, so clearly provide great care to the residents. They are also always on hand to provide help and advice to visitors if needed and kindly offer coffee and biscuits with your family. The lounges are very comfortable, warm, clean and nicely furnished in a homely fashion. Small tables are nicely laid daily for lunch. It's a very happy home, so many thanks to all.

The staff were cheerful, helpful and very attentive to the needs of the residents. It was a very welcoming visit, with coffee and biscuits provided in the main lounge. This is a delightful room with comfortable armchairs and a relaxing atmosphere. Three of the residents were encouraged in a jigsaw assisted by one of the carers. Some were watching the TV or snoozing, while others were just passing the time of day and observing. It would be helpful if the staff/carers wore name badges.

The support given by staff at St Peter's has been of a high standard in keeping the residents safe and well cared for. Privacy and independence are respected, and care is provided with sensitivity. Visits are encouraged, and visitors are made welcome and able to see what is happening or raise any queries. A year's experience at St Peter's has confirmed that our decision to choose here has proved right for us all.

Dad was originally at St Peter's for respite and now is a permanent resident. We were so worried about Dad's welfare at home, with mobility problems and suffering from loneliness plus safety concerns. Since being at the care home, it's been a big relief to know that all his needs are catered for, including personal hygiene, physical needs, lovely meals and interaction with people. The staff are always friendly and make time for him. Dad always has a smile for them.

This home is bright, clean and busy and has never smelled of urine. The food is very good, and the staff and carers are very friendly and helpful. When I have reported to the team leaders of any problems, it has been solved and dealt with without fuss. I would recommend this care home. The staff made Christmas special with activities, the decorations were lovely, and the Christmas dinner was tasty.

My father is treated very well. All staff are very good, particularly the senior staff. St Peter's House is very comfortable and warm, and the food is excellent. As his daughter, they keep me well informed of any issues - medical or otherwise. We looked around other homes, and this is the only one that my father felt comfortable in.

Very friendly and welcoming on enquiry. Very efficient in setting up the placement of Mother. Nice room. Very homely and encourages social discourse. Humour and friendliness from all staff. Several places to sit, both in the lounge and at the table. Plenty of activities, Very good food, served hot and well presented. Encouraging family and friends to visit and take out for outside activities. Would recommend.

This is our first experience with a care home, and I have been pleasantly surprised at the overall quality and standards of this care home. It is well furnished and decorated throughout, with good maintenance and cleanliness. The staff are very friendly and caring. The food is plentiful and of a good standard. The resident's various problems can take time to be dealt with, and more one-to-one would be appreciated.

They have a very caring attitude towards the care of my husband, which gives me comfort.

I am always impressed by the care given. The home provides a secure environment, and I am confident that they always have my father's best interests at heart.

My dad has been at St Peter's since April 2022. Initially for respite, but is now a permanent resident. Before going to St Peter's, my dad was very unsafe living at home, and he was very lonely. Now we know Dad is safe, happy and well cared for. The staff know my dad well, and all his physical and emotional needs are met. The communication is good, and we are always informed of any issues.

My mother has been at the home for over 7-years and has always been well looked after. Though her dementia is quite severe, I can see by the way she responds to the staff there that she is happy and totally comfortable in her environment. As a frequent visitor to the home (before Covid times), I have a always been impressed with the happy atmosphere, and find communication with staff very easy. Covid has presented its own complications, but the home has responded very well with each change required, and I have confidence in them to do the right thing.

I have already recommended St Peters a couple of times to friends. Staff, by and large, were excellent; particularly in a final couple of weeks of my father's life, when, as a family, we had a lot of interaction with the staff. Many unsung heroes on the staff - eg housekeeping and catering. Also, impressed with the work ethic and attitude of some of the younger carers. Found the temporary manager at the time very helpful and supportive on many levels; particularly as we were in the early days of Covid. Only real complaint - raised on a number of occasions during his stay was the lack of control with my father's hearing aids by the team leaders. One unit totally lost at considerable expense! Often, his hearing aids would be in the office when the family visited; shame as he was totally deaf without them and diminished his enjoyment of the home. My father's stay in St Peters was just under a year, and overall, we were content with his stay.
