Mum lived at Cholwell from January 23 - October 25 and during that time she was well cared for and kept safe which was such a relief for us as a family. We loved that the carers took the time to really get to know her. We were able to visit her at any time which was great because we did not live near
the home and therefore our timings were unpredictable. The staff were always so accommodating no matter when we arrived. Mum passed away in Oct 25 and the care with which the staff looked after her was amazing. Sadly my sister and I were not able to get to her before she passed but the staff made sure that she was not alone and that brings us great comfort. When we did arrive we were looked after so well and Mum was treated with such dignity and respect. I cannot thank them enough for making such a sad day bearable.

My sister and I cannot thank Cholwell House enough for the excellent care they provided to our mother. From the moment she arrived, the staff treated her with dignity, kindness and genuine warmth. My mother had previously stayed at Cholwell House for respite earlier this year but then returned in August
2025 for a permanent placement as her dementia needs had increased significantly. She was constantly offered alternative meals to encourage her appetite and always had a smile on her face. She loved getting involved with activities where she could but would otherwise enjoy watching the other residents having fun. What stood out the most was how the staff truly knew each resident; their preferences, routines and their little quirks. Friendly banter was very present and staff were always laughing with the residents which contributed to the homely atmosphere around the home. I would not hesitate to recommend Cholwell House for anyone needing nursing/dementia care.

I cannot thank and praise the whole team at Cholwell House enough. From the moment my lovely dad arrived at Cholwell, they have demonstrated the highest standard of care, compassion and respect for dad. They have also been an unwavering support to myself. A 'thank you' seems almost inadequate given
what these wonderful people have done & continue to do for dad. I know that I can visit any time, night or day, and there is always someone there to greet with a friendly face & fully update me when asked. I acknowledge that the teams give up their own Christmas, so that families get theirs. They take so much of the worry away too. I can sleep again at night, for the first time in years knowing dad is safe and well cared for. Thank you Cholwell xx

I cannot recommend this home highly enough here are some reasons why...
My partner is a resident, and spends most of her time in the communal areas. I go there EVERY DAY, typically for between 2 and 4 hours, though occasionally longer or shorter. The time I go varies. Given the HUNDREDS of hours I
have spent there I think I can give a reliable assessement.
The staff genuinely care for and love their residents. It's not just patient professionalism, it is a level above that.
The staff just do not stop, motivation seems high, and the drive to serve needs and desires is relentless.
The staff create a sense of real home/family care in a situation where such a thing seems by its nature to be impossible.
It is a family owned business and has that feel about it, pride in work, focus on the long term not a quick return.
I would recommend this place to anyone.

My mum has been in Cholwell House for over 2 years now and I have always found the staff to be attentive to her needs and very friendly and welcoming to me whenever I visit.
They take time to sit with her and partake in activities as best she can.
It has a lovely homely feel and I am confident we
made the best choice of home for her care needs.

Cholwell staff care for my mother.
It is a very difficult time for her and the staff try and make her daily experience as caring and enjoyable as possible.
They are all very kind and supportive.
It is very much appreciated and we couldn't be more grateful to them.

Unfortunately both my parents have needed specialist care and Cholwell House was chosen. It is a fabulous caring home with wonderful staff that make it very friendly and comfortable for the residence. They both received love, warmth and compassion from knowledgable and experienced staff the whole time.
It is a great relief to know that your parents are being looked after so kindly and affectionately. I would not hesitate in recommending Cholwell Nursing home to anyone needing love and care.

Dad lived at Cholwell House Nursing Home for four years and passed away in May 2023, aged 96. We were worried that, as his faculties declined, he would struggle and we would find it difficult to engage with him. We needn’t have worried. It is fantastic and looks after residents as individuals. All the
staff ensure that they feel safe and comfortable.
Dad was dressed, washed, shaved etc every day and looked neat whenever we visited. The food was excellent – he did enjoy the cooked breakfast and the “show and tell” to ask what he would like for lunch. The activities such as singing, bringing in external guests or even animals (we won’t forget the lambs!) were great.
The manager manages the home extremely well and her recruitment policy is excellent, as all the staff show the dedication and commitment that one would hope to see for one’s relative.
We cannot praise Cholwell enough. Dad continued to smile until the end and we would have no hesitation in suggesting Cholwell as a nursing home for anyone’s relatives.

Mum was a resident from January until May of this year. The love, care, attention and support that she received during her time at Cholwell House were amazing and humbling to witness. Every single nurse was so friendly and supportive to Mum and helped to make her final months as comfortable as possible.
Our family are so grateful for the love and support provided to us, as well as Mum over a really difficult period - a huge thank you to all of the amazing Cholwell team.

My mother was admitted to Cholwell House Nursing Home in January 2022. Sadly she died in June 2022.
From beginning to end, we were so happy with everything to do with the home. The staff were absolutely fabulous - warm, caring, compassionate, knowledgeable and had time for my mum and for me and my
family. From day one, they treated my mum like a good friend and made it her home.
We knew that Mum was in excellent hands and that provided an enormous sense of relief at a time of immense stress, upset and ultimately sadness.
They cared for Mum so well, right until her last day - they were respectful, caring and so supportive.
We thank everyone at Cholwell so much - a fabulous team.

It is always difficult to accept that a parent, who has always been so independent and capable, needs to go into care. But the support and care given to our father over the last year or so at Cholwell House Nursing Home, led so professionally by the managers, was remarkable. Whilst the pandemic placed
severe restrictions on visiting, it was a great comfort to know that Dad was in such capable hands. And Cholwell provided a dedicated 'residents line' for family, so we were able at least to chat regularly, even during full lockdown. Thank you for the kind support, patience and care you gave Dad throughout these difficult times.

My mother is a recent resident of Cholwell House Nursing Home. I was worried about her going into care but I can honestly say for both my mother and I it has been a lovely experience. My mother has settled well with lovely, caring nurses and care workers who genuinely are sensitive and interested in
knowing my mother and her needs. The home has a relaxed, caring and happy atmosphere.

I was very upset when I wasn’t managing my husband’s care at home and had to admit him into a nursing home. It was a real comfort and peace of mind for me to know and see that Cholwell House has provided him excellent care and I was kept informed of any changes. The matron and her staff took the time
to get to know him and are always friendly and approachable. With the pandemic restrictions, the staff work very hard to allow the family to visit without breaking the rules.
I am very grateful to all the staff for the care and attention they have provided for my husband. I would have no hesitation to recommend Cholwell House to any family.
Thank you.

Cholwell House is a wonderful home from home for my mum who has been a resident since January of this year. The staff are kind and caring and you feel one of the family immediately.
The house has a calm atmosphere and great attention is paid to all residence. My mum has really blossomed since January
and is so much happier having suffered the loss of her soulmate last year and the increasing challenge of living alone, even with carers she has really gone from strength to strength. I know it is due to the care and support she receives. It's also a very happy place and my mum has great fun with the staff.
The manager is incredible, she is very supportive of me, including me in all decisions regarding my mum's care but also to the wider family which is so important when they live far away.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cholwell House to any family in the same situation as myself.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.631)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.631) out of 10 for Cholwell House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.849 for Cholwell House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (90 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.849
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.782 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cholwell House Nursing Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 registered maximum number of service users is 10.2. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.2 = 0.882
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
