Overall very pleased. My mother is in the lounge area of the home and my only criticism is there are only 2 carers and when they are attending to one resident, the other residents are left to their own devices, toilet etc. I appreciate 2 carers to 12 residents is probably the norm, it leaves something
to be desired.

Reply from Fiona Trezise, Manager at Cholwell House Nursing Home

Thank you for your comment, however, we endeavour to effectively meet residents needs at all times. This is evidenced by a third member of staff being available to assist in the lounge area when required: this enhances the wellbeing of the residents and ensures continuity of care.

My sister has been at Cholwell House for 3 years and 4 months and has been very well looked after and cared for. She is very happy there. As visitors, we always find the staff very welcoming and pleased to see us. During the recent lockdown, we have been in contact with the staff and been advised all
is well.

The staff are all amazing, hard-working and friendly. They make us feel part of the Cholwell House family when we visit our Mum. To hear our Mum say, "I feel this place is my home now" says it all to us. We can't thank the staff enough for all they do and keeping our Mum safe during this pandemic.

The home has a very welcoming and homely atmosphere. All of the staff are very caring and friendly. I am confident that my mum is very well looked after and treated with dignity and respect. I do not think there is anywhere that could provide better care for my mum at this stage of her life.

January: Cholwell House is a friendly home and the staff treats the residents as family. They are caring and attentive to their resident's needs and welcome visitors at any time.

April: During the lockdown, the home has been closed to visitors due to COVID-19. We have received photos of our relative

and have been kept up to date in relation to COVID infections (or lack of them as has been the case).

My father has been at Cholwell House for a year. He has been looked after with care, kindness, and dignity. His room is large, airy, and kept clean and the staff is kind and considerate. He has settled into a routine and is happy, particularly now there is another male compansion resident.

Current Review Score: 8.5 (8.487)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.5 (8.487) out of 10 for Cholwell House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.5 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.943 for Cholwell House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (33 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 35 Ratings = 4.943

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.544 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cholwell House Nursing Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 registered maximum number of service users is 10.2. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.2 = 0.294

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
