I would just like to say that this was my first experience of putting a loved one into care. This was a very distressing time made so much easier by the team at Cholwell. They reassured us that everything would be ok and encouraged us to call as many times as we liked.
From that day on we became part
of the Cholwell family. We visited whenever we wanted and was always greeted with a warm welcome.
My mother-in-law was always so happy and well looked after and I really believed she was loved by all the staff.
At 93 she has now died but I would not hesitate to recommend this nursing home to others and also feel a little sad that I will not be visiting them anymore. Thank you all.

My mother, who has dementia; has now been in Cholwell for a year and in that time she has always been treated with care, dignity and love.
The staff are like family to the residents and nothing is too much trouble for them. We are always informed of any developments or concerns about Mum's health and
during lockdown we had handmade cards and photos letting us know she was ok.
She has a lovely size room, which is always clean as are all the communal areas. The whole place is light and airy and has a family home atmosphere.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cholwell; as I know Mum is getting the best of care. Thank you to everyone at Cholwell.

Over the past 5-years, Cholwell House has taken care of both my parents, arriving at different times and after traumatic and uncomfortable experiences in other homes.
At the time my mum arrived, doctors had given her no more than 3-months to live, her condition extreme both mentally and physically
in her end-stage dementia. Now, nearly 5-years later, she is settled, calm and physically as good as she can be, given her circumstances.
The care, compassion and love that has been shown, not only to my parents but also to me by the wonderful family that Cholwell are, has changed both my parents and my life completely. They are all considered my extended family, and I will never be able to thank them enough for all they do. I love them all, and if mum and dad were able, I know that they would say the same.
Thank you all so much, Cholwell House, you are all totally amazing.

Cholwell is the most amazing home from home nursing home. From the moment you walk through the door you have a warm welcome, very much a family atmosphere. We have been part of the Cholwell family for nearly six years, and in all that time, have never had any concerns about the care, a very dedicated,
compassionate team of cares who never fail to go the extra mile. During the lockdown, we received photos and cards and even a video on my mum-in-laws 80th birthday, again so much effort to make her day special, a cake, banners, balloons and singing! She has sadly been mostly in bed for the last couple of years and never a sore or mark on her skin, a true testament to outstanding care, she is always clean and fresh as is the whole home. I can not speak highly enough of this place and would never hesitate to recommend it, (in fact, I have and those that have also placed their relatives at Cholwell have never regretted it for one minute).

My mum has lived at Cholwell for 5 years and 8 months. I can honestly say in all this time I have never had any reason for complaint. The home is managed extremely well, staff are friendly, welcoming and always show care and compassion to all residents. Over our time here it has been a rollercoaster
ride with the decline of dementia with my mum, but the manager and her team have always involved us in any changes and showed care and support to us at difficult times. During lockdown, I have had photos sent in a card with a message of how mum is, which has been lovely. I will be eternally grateful to everyone at Cholwell and can’t recommend them highly enough. I am very confident that my mum is treated with dignity and compassion which is vital with dementia. In my opinion, they not only do a first-class job but always seem to go that extra mile with the care and compassion that just seems to come naturally to them. Thank you so much.

Overall very pleased. My mother is in the lounge area of the home and my only criticism is there are only 2 carers and when they are attending to one resident, the other residents are left to their own devices, toilet etc. I appreciate 2 carers to 12 residents is probably the norm, it leaves something
to be desired.

Thank you for your comment, however, we endeavour to effectively meet residents needs at all times. This is evidenced by a third member of staff being available to assist in the lounge area when…read more

My sister has been at Cholwell House for 3 years and 4 months and has been very well looked after and cared for. She is very happy there. As visitors, we always find the staff very welcoming and pleased to see us. During the recent lockdown, we have been in contact with the staff and been advised all
is well.

The staff are all amazing, hard-working and friendly. They make us feel part of the Cholwell House family when we visit our Mum. To hear our Mum say, "I feel this place is my home now" says it all to us. We can't thank the staff enough for all they do and keeping our Mum safe during this pandemic.

The home has a very welcoming and homely atmosphere. All of the staff are very caring and friendly. I am confident that my mum is very well looked after and treated with dignity and respect. I do not think there is anywhere that could provide better care for my mum at this stage of her life.

January: Cholwell House is a friendly home and the staff treats the residents as family. They are caring and attentive to their resident's needs and welcome visitors at any time.

April: During the lockdown, the home has been closed to visitors due to COVID-19. We have received photos of our relative

and have been kept up to date in relation to COVID infections (or lack of them as has been the case).

Cholwell is an excellent, well-managed facility with a family, caring vibe. They offer residents a wide range of stimulating experiences including art, music, physical therapies, celebrations of world events, Christmas, Easter, V.E. Day, Birthday. The family are constantly kept informed of any changes
which give us complete peace of mind concerning our loved one.

My father has been at Cholwell House for a year. He has been looked after with care, kindness, and dignity. His room is large, airy, and kept clean and the staff is kind and considerate. He has settled into a routine and is happy, particularly now there is another male compansion resident.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.393)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.393) out of 10 for Cholwell House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.809 for Cholwell House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (76 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 94 Ratings = 4.809
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.584 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cholwell House Nursing Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 registered maximum number of service users is 10.2. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.2 = 0.784
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
