Review from Sally M (Wife of Resident) published on 10 August 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My adult children and I agree that my husband, who is in the later stages of Alzheimer's and bedridden, was exceptionally well cared for during the three months he spent at Ambleside. Every single member of staff was amazing. They were all so kind, patient, understanding and caring with my husband, even on the odd occasion he became a bit agitated. They also made me, my children and grandchildren feel particularly welcome when we visited.
My husband was happy and felt safe and well cared for at Ambleside and grew very fond of the carers who provided his day to day care. He was concerned about leaving to go home.
I especially appreciated that the staff continued to be amazing in unprecedented heatwaves - the chef still cooking in a boiling kitchen and the nurses and care staff undertaking quite strenuous work while still putting the needs of residents first.

Ambleside is not a purpose built nursing home but it is the staff that make a nursing home - and the staff here are excellent.

Review from L H (Brother of Resident) published on 14 May 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My brother is a long term resident who was moved to Ambleside at short notice from another (corporate) care home that decided to close down. My brother has complex needs. The care, respect, patience and support demonstrated by all staff has been excellent. The management team are accessible and willing to help wherever they can. There appears to be a low turnover of staff which enables them to get to know the individual needs of the residents and respond accordingly.

As an old converted building, it probably has it's challenges but the property itself appears to be well maintained and clean. My brother has been in several care homes and Ambleside is definitely the one where he has been happiest. Thanks to all the team.

My Godmother was a resident for two months after a long period of dementia, her care requirements changed and all staff at Ambleside treated her with the utmost patience and respected her dignity until she passed peacefully. Thank you to all the kindness and professionalism shown to myself and Godmother at the particular difficult time.

My sister felt like she had 'fallen on her feet' when she was admitted to Ambleside Nursing Home. It felt like family to her. She was well cared for and shown great respect. As her carer I could relax in the knowledge that she was being well looked after.

All of the staff at Ambleside were so kind and looked after my mum so well that I felt they genuinely care and made friends with her. They were always respectful and treated her with true dignity, sitting with her and holding her hand. I felt supported that they would be there for her in the times between my visits and I am forever grateful to all of the staff for that. Thank you so much, your care and love was so appreciated.

Overall Experience

My mum was a resident at Ambleside from May 2022 until the end of February 2023. The care she received was 2nd to none. Their eagerness to find solutions to every problem my mother had was unending. The staff did everything in their power to keep my mother happy and comfortable at all times even in the worst circumstances as she progressed to end of life. The staff were incredibly attentive and unbelievably kind and caring. The chef visited each day and try to provide anything my mother would ask for to eat. Occupational health was paramount at all times and everything was done to encourage my mother to keep moving and enjoying life. In her last days when my mother was suffering greatly there was nothing they would not do to try and ease that suffering. In the last two days, she had 24-hour company and care. She wasn’t left alone for a moment. Ambleside have my deepest gratitude!

My brother needed some time in a nursing home to get back on his feet again and social services arranged for him to stay at Ambleside. They took such good care of him, the service was excellent. He was able to return home and live independently because of the great care they provided. The staff were always very welcoming when we visited and kind to my brother, treating him with dignity and respect.

Ambleside is a small friendly home near to Grove Park and the seafront. I was so pleased that my mother was sent to this home. I cannot praise the staff enough for the care mum received. They were so kind with special treats on her birthday. My mother always said she was comfortable and enjoyed the food and staff. Distant family were always able to contact via video links with the staff help. The medical help received was always excellent, and we were contacted with any issues.

Review from Michael A (Husband of Resident) published on 11 October 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My wife had been suffering from a combination of posterior cortical atrophy and advanced-stage Alzheimer's disease and had been in the care of Ambleside since October 2017. During that time she was completely immobile, unable to move her limbs voluntarily, incapable of communication, and needing to be fed via a straw - a very slow process needing much patience on the part of the carer. The level of care given to my wife by the team was outstanding, from the preparation of food suitable for ingestion via a straw to the regular cleaning, turning, and comforting necessary for her wellbeing. Compared with our previous experiences in various establishments, Ambleside was a revelation, demonstrating that good care, compassion, and willingness to listen and act on my occasional requests could not only be possible but could be provided with evident pleasure and courtesy. I could, at last, relax and know that my wife was in exceptionally good hands.

My mother was a resident of Ambleside for 10 months. When she went into Ambleside she was deemed end of life. During her time the nursing care she received was excellent. The staff were always polite and showed great empathy. During her last few days of life, they were very attentive even though my sister and I were present. There was a member of staff with her when she passed away. I would strongly recommend Ambleside.

The staff have been so helpful and caring to both myself and my mother-in-law. Due to being so happy, her symptoms which show when she is unhappy or stressed have improved. They always have a smile and do what they can to make my mother-in-law's life happier. They even 'Whatsapped' a photo of my mother-in-law in these restricted times. They listen and offer advice when requested. Food is fab according to my mother-in-law but not tried myself. So so pleased they took her under their care at a time when due to Covid it was difficult to get accepted into a home.
