Given the unprecedented situation that the global community finds itself coping with issues with grave consequences, Poldhu Care Home has responded swiftly and precisely for which I am extremely grateful and supportive. It is far better to not see someone than lose them to this deadly virus. My confidence
in the home was always high when other family members were residents, but now it is held in great esteem. I have been able to Skype, which has allowed my mother to know that she has not been abandoned by the family as lockdown is a hard matter to explain. She is happy and I have no concerns.

Supervisors need to be more hands-on than wasting time in trying to get carers to carry out all menial tasks, that inflicts un-needed suffering to residents (like toileting). Management leads have changed nearly every year since my mother became a resident which is not ideal.

I have found that my mother has been well looked after by a caring team of professionals. My mother requires 24-hour care, due to her condition of dependency following her stroke. Any medical issues are communicated promptly to me. The staff there are a credit to their profession.

My dad is clearly treated with kindness and dignity at all times. Staff go above and beyond the call of duty to make him happy. The food is very good, he is clean and tidy when I visit. Staff are happy and jovial and dad thrives on this. As a nurse myself, I know how hard it is to care for, sometimes
"challenging behaviour" but when dad has this phase, staff are amazing. I feel happy when I leave him knowing he is well-loved and looked after. Thank you for all you do for him Poldhu.

Another great respite holiday for my husband. So well cared for from start to finish.
He so enjoys his visits, a very happy environment.
One shower a week takes some getting used to as my husband is showered each day at home. But we totally understand why with so many residents to see to.
He had
a good wash every day. All my husband's clothes were beautifully cared for and he enjoyed the delicious meals as always.

Thank you so much for your review and please be assured that we have taken on board your feedback in respect of showering which we will endeavour to improve upon for any future stays. We would also like to thank your husband for the beautiful artwork he created during his stay.

I have found the care Mum gets as very good, but! the friendliness of the staff, the regular chats and kindness are exemplary. From the cleaners to kitchen staff and carers - all are brilliant. The "satisfactory" for safety is because a couple of times someone has wandered into her room.

It's a pleasure to see The Poldhu keeping standards with much competition in the area. A feeling of freedom not locked in. The meals vary. Details need attention to the first impression, weeds and outside needs shaping up impressions counts a lot. The weekend senior staff could be improved. The carers
need more detail to their client's personal hygiene, inside the mouth, cheek as an example. Cradle cap, nails. For visitors to see more of the hierarchy powers to be.

Having spent a week's respite at The Poldu, I found the standard of care excellent. The rooms were very well furnished and clean.
The food was of excellent quality with home cooked meals.

My husband has been in your care for nearly three years (Thursday 12th May 2016). I visit him every day, sometimes twice and I have seen some changes in that time, all for the better. You now have caring and happy staff, the home is warm and clean and as family members, we are made welcome and are
cared for with great consideration in often sad and upsetting circumstances. Your CQC rating has gone up in this time, which is a relief for families who have had to give up our personal care and responsibilities. Your Head of Care and her deputy are both hard working and excellent at their jobs, so, as long as there are no dramatic changes, I would have no qualms about recommending Poldhu Care Home for your family member.

My uncle spent a week at Poldhu Care Home for respite to visit his sister who is a permanent resident. It is an extremely successful stay and his health and wellbeing generally were much improved in just one week he stayed.
There isn't anything they won't do for you he told me.
My uncle who lives
in Essex was reluctant to come but since his visit is keen to visit again.

This care home is the most remarkable one I have ever visited. It is like a 5-star hotel. The food is delicious and the care outstanding. Even though there are extremely difficult patients in residence they are treated with respect and dignity. The care my sister received in her last few weeks of life
was outstanding and thus made it much easier for us, her family, to leave her each day.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.056)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.056) out of 10 for Poldhu is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.683 for Poldhu is calculated as follows: ( (59 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 82 Ratings = 4.683
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.373 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Poldhu is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.4 = 0.673
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have worked in Healthcare for over 17 years having qualified as a Nurse more than 10 years ago. After working in different settings, I came back to the care home setting as it is my passion. Being able to support residents and their loved ones, ensuring that they have the best possible experience in our home and feel a part of our community is extremely rewarding.

I thrive in challenging situations and pride myself on my adaptability. I encourage our team to always look for the positives and what we can learn from every situation. This enables the home to constantly move forward and embrace new challenges, it allows the team to grow and feel pride in their work.

Prior to joining Poldhu I previously held the position of Registered Manager at our sister home in Penzance, Ponsandane.
