Bramble Down Nursing Home is part of Peninsula Care Homes. It is situated in Denbury, a quiet village located between Totnes and Newton Abbot.

Bramble Down offers the best care to those in the latter stage of life, ensuring all physical, emotional, spiritual, and psychological needs are met and offering around the clock support for residents and their loved ones. Provides care for individuals with more complex healthcare needs and those who require the supervision from a dedicated team of registered nurses and carers.

Bramble Down is registered to accommodate 40 residents in a mix of single and double rooms, although it predominately uses rooms only for single occupancy. The home was purpose-built and has had many upgrades in recent times. It looks out over open farmland and has its own beautiful grounds with lawns, mature trees and flower beds. It has an inner courtyard that has a water fountain and bird tables.

Individuals living at Bramble Down choose their activity programme with the activity co-ordinators. In-house activities include arts and crafts, gardening projects, iPad sessions and games. The home is working towards accreditation with the Eden Alternative – a philosophy to ensure individuals never experience boredom, helplessness or loneliness.

My family and I were very pleased with the care our aunty was given. Some members of staff were outstanding and treated her with deep dignity and respect. We couldn't have asked for more. Covid reduced activities that she would have enjoyed. She had a complex problem with swallowing and so providing
the correct food was challenging, but the kitchen did extremely well.

Following a long, lifesaving time in hospital, my mum went to stay at Bramble Down Nursing Home for a four-month period of recuperation.
This was a very scary time for my brothers and I. We didn’t know how we would feel about letting go of our mum’s day to day care.
Our mum was given a beautiful
room with glorious views over the surrounding moorland. The food was fabulous! Freshly cooked on site by passionate chefs!
All the staff involved with my mum’s care were warm, friendly, compassionate and at times very funny; they became like family to us.
The manager was always popping in to see my mum, listening to her and making her laugh!
There is a relaxed atmosphere at Bramble Down, created by happy, very caring staff. We had absolutely no need to be afraid of this next step in our mum’s life.
Although our mum now lives in a home that specializes in dementia care, everyone at Bramble Down Nursing Home played a huge part in helping us all towards the very best future for our mum.

We have always been treated with respect and warmth and amazingly so, during lockdown. The manager and staff were very professional in all actions to us as visitors and our friend who we visited almost every week. The standard of care to our friend is exceptional. Bramble Down's standard of cleanliness
is excellent. No odour. We would recommend to anyone seeking a care home for a loved one. Our friend has been in Bramble Down for nearly three years and the above still holds.

Have found the home to be very friendly, loving and helpful. The home is very clean, the food good, staff are outstanding, both to residents and family members. As my sister is unable to use the homes activities, that is an area I cannot comment on.

The staff at Bramble Down look after my 95-year-old mother, very well. My mother has Alzheimer's, which means her behaviour can be very challenging at times, but the staff are always caring and patient with her. My mother appears to be very happy and content. Her room is nice, with a lovely view of
the gardens. My only complaint is that they seem to lose Mum's socks on a regular basis. Other than that, I have no complaints at all.

My husband spent twelve days respite care at Bramble Down Nursing Home. Due to his condition he was unable to join in activities, but he said the staff were extremely kind and gentle and would pop in and out to check on him. He had a lovely room and every time i spoke to him he said the food was delicious
and he was quite content.

Dad had been in Bramble Down for nine years. We only ever had a positive experience. The staff are so caring and kind. They didn't just take care f his needs, but were his family and friends. I was unable to visit my husband as often as I would have liked, but when I did manage to visit, I found, except for one occasion, that he was pain-free and peaceful. He smiled more than I have seen him smile for a long time. I could only be happy that he was going the way he wanted and was able to

The dates that my husband was at Bramble Down were at the height of the covid epidemic, when everyone was stretched to capacity, so I am unable to comment on all sections. However, I found everyone very capable, understanding and friendly. The nursing staff were superstars. My husband was treated with
respect and dignity, his room was adequate, the bed was comfortable and although he couldn't express it himself, I'm sure he would give one huge smile and a big thank you for the care he received. As do I. Thank you Bramble Down.

I am very happy that my mother has a place in Bramble Down in Denbury. We were very lucky to get this place for Mum, as it is very local to Newton Abbot, where my sister and I live, thanks to social services. But I would like to say that all the staff are really, really good to Mum, or so she tells
me. So I can't really ask for more. They are all friendly and they will do anything to help when we ask. Much better than another care home. We are very happy and can't thank them enough.

Our father was at this home from November 2019. He sadly passed away in January. He was well looked after and the staff were very fond of him. The manager even attended his funeral. He was treated with kindness and patience.

My mother was in Bramble Down for a few months after her stroke, until her death in January. All the staff I met were always courteous, friendly and helpful. They engaged with and cared for mum very well, especially given the circumstances of the pandemic and staff shortages. Staff made her room more
homely by putting her personal items around it. When talking to staff it was evident that they had taken the time to read mum's personal information so that they knew about her background. I would recommend Bramble Down to other relatives looking to place their loved one in nursing care.

From the moment I first contacted Bramble Down, I knew my father-in-law was going to be well looked after. I had an initial contact with a memeber of staff who was incredibly efficient and enabled me to bring over a few personal belongings to help make his room feel more homely. She explained what the
protocols of the nursing home was which really helped me understand what they needed from us as a family. From the moment he checked in, we were communicated with excellently by the nurses to let us know how he was settling in, any different treatments he needed and they even facetimed us off their own phones to enable our five-year-old to see him and have a chat on a number of occasions. Come the end we were called to let know we needed to come to see him and were able to stay with him all day and through the evening until the end. We thank the manager and all the wonderful nurses and staff at this lovely home. We are truly blessed that he spent his final weeks in your care.

Everyone at Bramble Down is kind and caring to the residents, friendly and chatty to visitors. I know that my husband is well looked after. My husband has been with them for some years so they are like family and if I have any queries they always are ready to talk to me in spite of how busy they are.

Amongst dissatisfactions identified with crosses below, Ref; Safety/Security stands out.
On Sunday 6th June 2021 at 1330 I was alone in my room when I had a fall. I could not get up without help.
So I rang the call button and pressed assistance, I lay there for 30 minutes without a response. I then
pressed the Emergency button, nothing happened for over 10 minutes. After a total of 40 mins plus two nurses arrived and helped me up. Not acceptable.

I have only visited my wife in her room due to her condition. Due to Covid-19 restrictions visiting time is limited but worthwhile. My wife is bedridden and I have not seen any other aspects of the nursing home. I have found the staff very polite and understanding.

Jo started at Bramble Down in May 2025, having been our Registered Manager at Cornerways in 2021. Before joining Peninsula Care Homes, Jo brings 22 years of experience within the care sector. Her passion for care began at the age of 13 whilst working as a kitchen assistant in her local care home – she says that she knew then that this was the career path she wished to follow.
