Overall Experience

The Coombs has gone downhill since it is in new ownership. Less staff. Have to buy own drinking water and tissues etc that were supplied by previous owners, new firm not interested in people only how much they can make out of them. Staff are mainly very caring but there is always an exception who thinks she is in charge and unless she is asked then things will not happen and also permits other residents to steal saying we would eventually get the phone back but this is no help to someone who is paralysed and unable to stop the thefts. Overall it is first about money now not care.

The Coombes is a beautiful care home, with lovely gardens and seating area outside.
The home is exceptionally clean, and the staff are always caring, friendly, and the residents are well looked after.
They provide great activities for the residents which they all seem to really enjoy, people come in to sing to them which is so lovely to see them join in, they also play bingo and have days out too.
The food is amazing, all homemade, and the cakes and puddings are exceptional.
many times I have been asked to sit and have a meal there with everyone. They are so welcoming,
I feel my brother is very lucky to be in a a caring, home from home atmosphere.

Thank you for all your support and kindness to my brother as well as us, your kindness and support makes me feel like I'm at home too.

I have to be honest that my opinion of Care Homes in general , previously was not good but after being lucky enough to get a place at The Coombs for our 93 year old mum, that opinion quickly changed . From the moment mum arrived there they were very attentive and took the time to get to know her ( and us) and find out what she liked and disliked. There were no restrictions on visiting hours which made it easy and less stressful spending quality time with mum. The food was good and plentiful usually with home made cakes at tea time . It really was like a home from home and I joked to my own children that they could book me in now because it simply was that good. I can totally recommend The Coombs and would like to thank the very very caring staff there . You are amazing

We all want our parents to remain in their own homes as long as possible, but there are times when you have no choice but to choose a care home for them. We couldn't have made a better choice than The Coombs! From the very first moment, it felt like a home, a warm, friendly, inviting home. And it felt like that every time we visited, day or night. Mum made friends with all the wonderful staff and she enjoyed their stimulating banter, danced and sang with them. The kitchen staff looked after her every need, which was mostly cheese and crackers - lol! There were plenty of events and outings to the swimming pool, boat trips, library and cafes. Most importantly, her health care and nursing requirements were handled with dignity and sensitivity, and always carefully monitored. As mum's closest family, we were listened to by the incredible staff and Management of The Coombs. Mum's last hours were handled with dignity, respect and love. We thank each and every one of you.

My husband's nan has been in The Coombs since August. She has settled in really well. Such a homely environment and nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff. Activities are great with choices for all to participate, plenty of grounds to take your loved ones around when the weather is nice. It is also always very clean when we visit. Thank you for taking such good care of our nan, it's always a pleasure to visit.

My nan is in The Coombs Nursing Home and I have had the best experience. She is happy and well looked after. The care team is amazing, nothing is too much and they always make the residents laugh and feel at home. My nan has come on so well since being admitted, when she arrived she was too poorly to get out of bed and now she is up and walking with a wheeled frame, eating a cooked breakfast every morning and loving life. The manager is always willing to help where she can and is always welcoming when coming into the home. The Coombs feels like a home from home.

Set in beautiful gardens, you feel at home as you enter. The staff are truly wonderful, and you can see they all love working there. A very well-organised management and I feel this is also why everybody gives out positive vibes. I am so happy for Mum and feel she will have many years at The Coombs. My dear mum has just spent four years in The Coombs, up until her sadly passing away a couple of days ago. Whilst not the most luxurious of care homes, the care Mum received was absolutely excellent and we could not have wished for better. In her final days and hours, the love and care shown to Mum was really wonderful and heartwarming to see.

The Coombs is very homely and caring. Care is personalized and respectful of the resident's needs and wishes.
Visitors are made to feel very welcome and being able to go and make yourself a hot drink for yourself and any friends visiting with you makes it so much less clinical and more like a home.
