Back in December 2022, I was advised to move my husband from Dementia Care into Nursing and Dementia Care. From the outset, I fell in love with Woodstock, and the building itself has such character. There is plenty of parking, and it is within walking distance of my home in Abbeymead. I was taken on a tour of the inside, and although at the time it was a bit dated, the garden was spacious and lovely in summer. There was plenty of space downstairs, making it a happy place to visit my husband. The rooms, too, are neat and spacious with en-suite bathrooms. I have found the manager and staff extremely professional and welcoming. The residents, too, are happy once they settle in.

The home has an excellent team of Nursing Staff who have attended to my husband with such exemplary care and patience. Any concerns or issues have always been taken care of. They also have a head Chef, an Assistant Chef and other kitchen staff, cleaners etc. The food is fresh, well-cooked, and presented. Birthdays are special for each resident, and often they celebrate with a buffet or summer barbecue at different times of the year.

Towards the end of last year, the downstairs areas were refurbished with new flooring, furniture, curtains and light fittings et. Also, after a long break, they have employed an Activities person who is making a big difference in the home, keeping the residents entertained.

My concern has only ever been my husband and the safety aspect between active residents and wheelchair/wheelchair bound residents, as the staff are unable to watch constantly, so one carer should be allocated to watch the active residents from destroying the garden, furniture etc. Instead of keeping disabled residents in their rooms. On the upstairs floors, a carer should be visibly on duty to avoid distress, illness etc. The chairs in the lounges should be wiped and disinfected as soon as a person gets up incontinent /wet - this is not done. In my opinion, it appears to be a definite shortage of staff, as often shaving, toileting, nail cutting, and hand washing are not done nearly enough.

All the staff are well trained and treat everyone as if they are one of their own family. I feel leaving my husband here gives me confidence that he is safe. Also we are kept up to date if anything happens ie falls, change of tablets etc.

My father is a resident at this care home, and overall I am very happy with the care he receives. The staff are kind, attentive, and genuinely care about the residents' wellbeing. Communication has been good, and I feel reassured knowing he is in a safe and supportive environment.
The only area that has felt lacking at times is the range and frequency of activities available for residents. However, it does seem that the home is aware of this and is making efforts to improve, which is encouraging.

Overall, I am pleased with the care provided and appreciate the commitment shown by the staff to ensure the residents' quality of life.

Whenever I go into Woodstock, I am greeted politely and with a friendly smile.

I asked for mum to have a footstool in November and by December they were there. Mum is always happy and chatty when awake. The other residents are always happy and chatty. Clean and tidy. The house never smells or looks untidy.

I always found that my Mum was very well looked after by the staff, she was always happy and contented. Her room was always clean and spotless. She always enjoyed being in the lounge and taking everything in, and the staff always paid attention to her. I always found the staff friendly and welcoming on my daily visits to the home.

My dad has Lewy Body dementia and has been in the home for maybe 6 months roughly. I just wanted to put a review as a huge thank you to the home's amazing staff, who do everything with love and care as if he were a member of their family. I wish he could be home with me, but Woodstock is the next best thing. It might not look the poshest or most polished interior but the love and care are second to none, and the new Manager, Catherine appears to be a great new asset, professional, communicative and caring.

On choosing Woodstock, I was pleased with the lady who showed me around. Later, I was told that a total of 6 months of refurbishment was in operation. It turned out to be a new front door and decoration on the Ground Floor was all. The room my wife was in was never cleaned properly, floor dust etc. was left for 5 months, toilet rolls were missing for days at a time. Bins are not emptied after a day. the laundry service was a joke. My wife's clothes went missing, and strangers' clothes were in place instead. My wife lost her wedding ring, various clothes, a commemorative coin etc. The food was very basic, and no attempt to make a meal to appeal to her, was ever offered. My overview is that the Manager and her staff were doing their best to manage under severe financial restraints. The owners should be ashamed.

My young husband received palliative, end-of-life care at the home and passed away at the setting. The care that he received was brilliant. The home not only looked after him but they also supported our family, especially in the last few days. The home advocated for him, ensuring he received the best care possible to keep him comfortable and pain-free by working with the community palliative team, regularly changing medication to align to his clinical need. He had a very peaceful passing despite very complex clinical needs. All of the staff genuinely care about the residents and their families. They are compassionate and empathetic. I cannot rate this home highly enough for palliative care. The home is clean with good infection prevention control measures in place. The staff are diligent and have good awareness of IPC. The home are also accommodating to the families' requests as much as possible, making the setting appear less clinical and more like a family home.

I am so grateful to the Manager of Woodstock and her competent and caring team of staff, for the excellent and efficient care they gave to my mother who was a resident during her few last weeks of life. The friendliness and respect shown towards mum by every member of the staff, both nursing and domestic, who had contact with her, was superb, and the warm and caring attitudes of the staff were always extended to me and my family whenever we visited. I would thoroughly recommend Woodstock Nursing Home to all potential residents and their families.

I must say the time my husband was in the nursing home he was very settled and enjoyed the afternoon visits by various organisations. The manager and staff where wonderful and caring. I just wish it had been nearer to where we live, I would never have moved him. He had a wonderful ensuite and was very happy. One staff member could get him to really laugh. Thank you all.

My first impression, as I walked in the nursing home on 28th May 2023, was the warm and friendly greeting I received from the nurse who opened the door! I told her who I was and that I came from Canada to visit my sister. I was taken to a small lounge area where we could have a one-on-one interaction. I visited my sister for three weeks, four hours a day, so I got to know the routines. We spent quality time outside in the garden, watching the residents and staff plant flowers. The ones who were able to walk were outside in the beautiful weather.

But the concern I have regarding safety/security is when she is in that small bed at night and there is no railing in case she becomes restless during the night and falls.

I have been really impressed by Woodstock Nursing Home.
From the first e-mail enquiry with head office to my initial visit and then making the decision that Woodstock and the wider team met our expectations of what we wanted from a care home.
The staff headed up by the manager are all friendly, kind and compassionate towards my mother and our family interested in getting to know us as much as my mother.
Nothing is too much trouble.
Her room is on the ground floor looking out onto the garden which my mother will love as she likes to see any visiting birds in the garden.
Woodstock is a home from home for my mum and the staff take pride in looking after the residents and themselves.

We are all family should be a motto for Woodstock.

We aim to give all our residents a home-from-home feel and carry out person-centred care to help residents feel they are valued and listened to.
