Woodstock Nursing Home

from Loraine B (Wife of Resident) published on 11 March 2026

Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
Back in December 2022, I was advised to move my husband from Dementia Care into Nursing and Dementia Care. From the outset, I fell in love with Woodstock, and the building itself has such character. There is plenty of parking, and it is within walking distance of my home in Abbeymead. I was taken on
a tour of the inside, and although at the time it was a bit dated, the garden was spacious and lovely in summer. There was plenty of space downstairs, making it a happy place to visit my husband. The rooms, too, are neat and spacious with en-suite bathrooms. I have found the manager and staff extremely professional and welcoming. The residents, too, are happy once they settle in.

The home has an excellent team of Nursing Staff who have attended to my husband with such exemplary care and patience. Any concerns or issues have always been taken care of. They also have a head Chef, an Assistant Chef and other kitchen staff, cleaners etc. The food is fresh, well-cooked, and presented. Birthdays are special for each resident, and often they celebrate with a buffet or summer barbecue at different times of the year.

Towards the end of last year, the downstairs areas were refurbished with new flooring, furniture, curtains and light fittings et. Also, after a long break, they have employed an Activities person who is making a big difference in the home, keeping the residents entertained.

My concern has only ever been my husband and the safety aspect between active residents and wheelchair/wheelchair bound residents, as the staff are unable to watch constantly, so one carer should be allocated to watch the active residents from destroying the garden, furniture etc. Instead of keeping disabled residents in their rooms. On the upstairs floors, a carer should be visibly on duty to avoid distress, illness etc. The chairs in the lounges should be wiped and disinfected as soon as a person gets up incontinent /wet - this is not done. In my opinion, it appears to be a definite shortage of staff, as often shaving, toileting, nail cutting, and hand washing are not done nearly enough.

Reply from Guneet Brookes, Marketing Manager at Woodstock Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Were pleased to hear that you appreciate the environment at Woodstock and the care and support provided to your husband. Its always great to know families feel confident in the home.

I came to see my best friend Valarie and knowing that she was in a different care home before, when I came to Church View Care Home, immediately I could see the difference, how caring, how attentive and loving they all are to Valarie's needs. The staff are so friendly and always attentive.

Ashbury Lodge

from J C (Daughter of Resident) published on 25 February 2026

The standard of care is basic and at best acceptable. Residents are often sat around on dining chairs doing nothing - despite the comfortable arm chairs with a better view of the TV and field, being empty.
Other than during set activity times, staff in the room are either engaged in admin, or dealing
with residents in their rooms, not having general time to spend with residents. I have found communication to be poor. Issues are only addressed when I raise them and often not in a timely manner.
There is limited outside space, not enough to walk around and the home have only arranged one outside trip in 22 months. Meaning most residents spend all day every day inside, even during warmer months.
The staff do their best and do work hard, and the range of activities and visits from outside organisations is good, however there does not seem to be enough staff to properly meet residents needs.
Reply from Guneet Brookes, Marketing Manager at Ashbury LodgeThank you for your feedback.
We would like to clarify that the concerns formally raised with the Home Manager relate to specific aspects of an individual care plan, which have been acknowledged and responded to promptly. A meeting has been held with the family to review these matters in detail and agree on any further actions required.
The points raised within this review regarding overall standards, staffing levels and resident engagement are not reflective of our day-to-day practice. We operate a structured activity programme, welcome regular external visitors, and review staffing in line with residents' assessed needs to ensure appropriate support at all times.
We believe open and constructive communication is essential and are pleased that a meeting is scheduled to address concerns directly. Our priority remains the dignity, wellbeing and quality of life of all residents in our care.

I felt immediately at ease when I arrived at Westley Court Nursing home. Rhiannon, the home manager, is amazing and friendly. She worked hard to get all the equipment I needed in a very short timeframe, and has been very supportive. The staff are lovely, very professional, and are always willing to
help me. Any issues I have had, have been addressed promptly, and efficiently. The cleaning staff are cheery and do a wonderful job of keeping the place looking lovely and smelling fresh. The activities staff are great at encouraging me and making me feel involved. The food here is lovely, and the kitchen staff have tried hard to cater for my tastes. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Overall, I love it here.

Chapel House Care & Nursing Home

from K C (Daughter of Resident) published on 2 February 2026
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5
While mum was in chapel house she had three investigations undertaken including neglect, we had issues with the care the staff provided including missing meals for her because she could not feed herself. Some of the staff here are fantastic but there is a long way to go to change the culture there.

Bells ring, staff tell off residents and some are bedridden and cannot help their selves, due to short staff they routinely do two person tasks single handed.

Personal care is lacking and bruises and marks, skin infections etc were not noticed until the family pointed things out.

The new managers are trying their best to change the way it's ran but from our experience there is a long way to go. However, upon our family members passing the management were extremely supportive in such a hard time.

Reply from Kate Collins, Regional Manager at Chapel House Care & Nursing HomeThank you so much for raising your concerns with myself at the time and affording us the opportunity to investigate incidents that fall below our expectations of the standards of care we provide at Chapel House. We were able to highlight issues with individual staff members who no longer work for the company. We are confident with the changes within the team these issues are now resolved and that the complaint was resolved with your satisfaction. Thank you also for your kind comments that the management and staff were supportive when your Mum passed away. We will ensure this feedback is shared with the team.

My father is a resident at this care home, and overall I am very happy with the care he receives. The staff are kind, attentive, and genuinely care about the residents' wellbeing. Communication has been good, and I feel reassured knowing he is in a safe and supportive environment.
The only area that
has felt lacking at times is the range and frequency of activities available for residents. However, it does seem that the home is aware of this and is making efforts to improve, which is encouraging.
Overall, I am pleased with the care provided and appreciate the commitment shown by the staff to ensure the residents' quality of life.

Despite advertising themselves as being able to care for complex mental health issues, this is very far from the truth. After only 3/4 weeks of caring for my stepdad, who is displaying symptoms of severe depression, anxiety, and the possible onset of dementia, the management served notice of eviction
because he has 'behavioural issues'. Before notice was served no attempt was made to diagnose or support his condition. Regularly, during visits, I noticed safeguarding guidelines weren't met because his call bell was disconnected, he was offered no dignity and left to lie on his bed in just top half clothing and an incontinence pad, with no bedding other than a pillow and bottom sheet on a plastic mattress, and his curtains closed at 2pm in the afternoon. Overall, a very unsatisfactory experience. There are many alternatives that are cheaper, better managed, with far superior facilities and decor. Please make sure that you've considered all available local homes before committing here.
Reply from Kate Collins, Regional Manager at Westley CourtWe are very disappointed to read your review which we note you submitted after we restricted your access to the care home following behaviours from you which prompted a referral to the police.
We also note that despite your unfounded criticism, your father remains with us and we have not had any previous concerns raised by you regarding his care.
We take the safety and wellbeing of our staff and residents very seriously and operate a zero tolerance policy regarding aggression, racism and bullying.
We will of course, continue to try to work with you in the best interests of your Father whilst living at Westley Court.

My father was submitted to the Chapel House care home, following concerns we raised about the level of care he required as his parkinsons disease had reached the next level. The team at the care home welcomed us on the day he arrived, spent time talking to us before taking him to this room. The care
home felt clean, had good open spaces, was friendly, and the staff were very understanding. The room was located on the top floor, with easy access via a lift suitable for people who can walk or use wheelchairs. It had a bright, clean feel to the layout with good outside views. A large bathroom with a walk-in shower and a good-sized TV in the main living room. Plenty of storage for clothes and personal things. He has settled well, and we now feel a lot happier that his needs are being catered for 24/7, which we would have found difficult to do.

Following urgent admission my friend has been treated with excellent care and compassion. Every effort has been made to make her feel comfortable and welcomed.
The level of staff in this home is, in my experience, as a retired GP, well above average and all are kind, willing to go a little further
and competent.

Very impressive: their efficient, thorough and friendly support has quite literally given Mum a new lease of life at 100. I am especially impressed with their attention to human dignity while maintaining an approach which is friendly and informal.
