Review of Chapel House Care & Nursing Home from Marc H (Husband of Resident) published on 23 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My lovely wife had many months in hospital with her prognosis changing from discharge home to maybe a month to live.
These last 3 weeks were spent at Chapel House.
From the first meeting with staff, the relationship with everyone that we met was friendly and professional.
My wife was bed bound so her life was the room and the view outside the window.
She loved the personalisation of the room so she could see lovely photos of our granddaughter (thanks Brian), she also enjoyed the view of the Black Pine Tree outside the window.
We engaged in bringing pine cones into her room each time we visited to give her a physical link with the tree she could see.
One negative was that the window was blown and vision through it not perfect, a quote to get this replaced was inhand.
All food was superb but my wife did not eat.
There was a great sense of rapport with all the staff.
On the final day when she left all the staff stood to attention a great sign of respect that was appreciated by us.

Thanks

My Mum was a resident at Chapel House for just short of 3 weeks. Sadly she was on end of life care, moving here after a lengthy hospital stay. Mum's room was lovely and spacious with plenty of storage options and a wonderful view of a pine tree out her window. We were able to personalise her room with photographs and personal items. This was particularly important as Mum was unable to leave her bed so couldn't take part in any activities going on in communal areas. Plans were to have her nails painted and hair done in bed but sadly time didn't allow for this. All the staff were very friendly and Management very knowledgeable and helpful, always happy to discuss any concerns or questions we had. Although Mum didn't really have an appetite, any food I saw offered looked lovely and homemade and presented beautifully. Something that really touched me when Mum passed was the pure kindness of the staff that day. Mum was treated as a human being. We will never forget Chapel House. Thank you.

Mum had a lovely bright room which was always clean. On arrival she was welcomed warmly and well looked after. The staff were always helpful and kind and whenever we needed help were available and Mum never had to wait long to be looked after. The care and kindness of everyone at a difficult time was second to none.

My mother has been a resident of Chapel House for nearly 5 months and in that time she has received exceptional care. The staff are both friendly and professional and my mother is happily settled in Chapel House. When searching for a care home for her we visited numerous other care homes in Gloucester and Chapel House stood head and shoulders above the others. I would highly recommend Chapel House to anyone looking for nursing care in Gloucester.

Review of Woodstock Nursing Home from Loraine B (Wife of Resident) published on 11 March 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

Back in December 2022, I was advised to move my husband from Dementia Care into Nursing and Dementia Care. From the outset, I fell in love with Woodstock, and the building itself has such character. There is plenty of parking, and it is within walking distance of my home in Abbeymead. I was taken on a tour of the inside, and although at the time it was a bit dated, the garden was spacious and lovely in summer. There was plenty of space downstairs, making it a happy place to visit my husband. The rooms, too, are neat and spacious with en-suite bathrooms. I have found the manager and staff extremely professional and welcoming. The residents, too, are happy once they settle in.

The home has an excellent team of Nursing Staff who have attended to my husband with such exemplary care and patience. Any concerns or issues have always been taken care of. They also have a head Chef, an Assistant Chef and other kitchen staff, cleaners etc. The food is fresh, well-cooked, and presented. Birthdays are special for each resident, and often they celebrate with a buffet or summer barbecue at different times of the year.

Towards the end of last year, the downstairs areas were refurbished with new flooring, furniture, curtains and light fittings et. Also, after a long break, they have employed an Activities person who is making a big difference in the home, keeping the residents entertained.

My concern has only ever been my husband and the safety aspect between active residents and wheelchair/wheelchair bound residents, as the staff are unable to watch constantly, so one carer should be allocated to watch the active residents from destroying the garden, furniture etc. Instead of keeping disabled residents in their rooms. On the upstairs floors, a carer should be visibly on duty to avoid distress, illness etc. The chairs in the lounges should be wiped and disinfected as soon as a person gets up incontinent /wet - this is not done. In my opinion, it appears to be a definite shortage of staff, as often shaving, toileting, nail cutting, and hand washing are not done nearly enough.

Review of Chapel House Care & Nursing Home from K C (Daughter of Resident) published on 2 February 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

While mum was in chapel house she had three investigations undertaken including neglect, we had issues with the care the staff provided including missing meals for her because she could not feed herself. Some of the staff here are fantastic but there is a long way to go to change the culture there.

Bells ring, staff tell off residents and some are bedridden and cannot help their selves, due to short staff they routinely do two person tasks single handed.

Personal care is lacking and bruises and marks, skin infections etc were not noticed until the family pointed things out.

The new managers are trying their best to change the way it's ran but from our experience there is a long way to go. However, upon our family members passing the management were extremely supportive in such a hard time.

My father is a resident at this care home, and overall I am very happy with the care he receives. The staff are kind, attentive, and genuinely care about the residents' wellbeing. Communication has been good, and I feel reassured knowing he is in a safe and supportive environment.
The only area that has felt lacking at times is the range and frequency of activities available for residents. However, it does seem that the home is aware of this and is making efforts to improve, which is encouraging.

Overall, I am pleased with the care provided and appreciate the commitment shown by the staff to ensure the residents' quality of life.

Whenever I go into Woodstock, I am greeted politely and with a friendly smile.

I asked for mum to have a footstool in November and by December they were there. Mum is always happy and chatty when awake. The other residents are always happy and chatty. Clean and tidy. The house never smells or looks untidy.

Chapel House is lovely place with a nice homely feel. Staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Mum's room was clean, warm and very comfortable. Management were constantly visible, approachable and easy to speak to.

Mum received consistently good care and in her final days, and even when she passed away, she and we her family, were well supported, treated with dignity, kindness and tenderness. Something we will never forget and will be forever grateful for.

Review of Chapel House Care & Nursing Home from Kevin S (Son of Resident) published on 14 January 2026 Submitted via Website

My father was submitted to the Chapel House care home, following concerns we raised about the level of care he required as his parkinsons disease had reached the next level. The team at the care home welcomed us on the day he arrived, spent time talking to us before taking him to this room. The care home felt clean, had good open spaces, was friendly, and the staff were very understanding. The room was located on the top floor, with easy access via a lift suitable for people who can walk or use wheelchairs. It had a bright, clean feel to the layout with good outside views. A large bathroom with a walk-in shower and a good-sized TV in the main living room. Plenty of storage for clothes and personal things. He has settled well, and we now feel a lot happier that his needs are being catered for 24/7, which we would have found difficult to do.

My dad has Lewy Body dementia and has been in the home for maybe 6 months roughly. I just wanted to put a review as a huge thank you to the home's amazing staff, who do everything with love and care as if he were a member of their family. I wish he could be home with me, but Woodstock is the next best thing. It might not look the poshest or most polished interior but the love and care are second to none, and the new Manager, Catherine appears to be a great new asset, professional, communicative and caring.

On choosing Woodstock, I was pleased with the lady who showed me around. Later, I was told that a total of 6 months of refurbishment was in operation. It turned out to be a new front door and decoration on the Ground Floor was all. The room my wife was in was never cleaned properly, floor dust etc. was left for 5 months, toilet rolls were missing for days at a time. Bins are not emptied after a day. the laundry service was a joke. My wife's clothes went missing, and strangers' clothes were in place instead. My wife lost her wedding ring, various clothes, a commemorative coin etc. The food was very basic, and no attempt to make a meal to appeal to her, was ever offered. My overview is that the Manager and her staff were doing their best to manage under severe financial restraints. The owners should be ashamed.

We have been extremely impressed by the level of care at Chapel House. From our initial visit and the ease of getting our Dad moved in, throughout his few short months here and especially in his last days, when every effort was made to keep him safe and cared for. We cannot adequately express how grateful we are for the fact his last few months were as good as could be hoped for
