Back in December 2022, I was advised to move my husband from Dementia Care into Nursing and Dementia Care. From the outset, I fell in love with Woodstock, and the building itself has such character. There is plenty of parking, and it is within walking distance of my home in Abbeymead. I was taken on
a tour of the inside, and although at the time it was a bit dated, the garden was spacious and lovely in summer. There was plenty of space downstairs, making it a happy place to visit my husband. The rooms, too, are neat and spacious with en-suite bathrooms. I have found the manager and staff extremely professional and welcoming. The residents, too, are happy once they settle in.
The home has an excellent team of Nursing Staff who have attended to my husband with such exemplary care and patience. Any concerns or issues have always been taken care of. They also have a head Chef, an Assistant Chef and other kitchen staff, cleaners etc. The food is fresh, well-cooked, and presented. Birthdays are special for each resident, and often they celebrate with a buffet or summer barbecue at different times of the year.
Towards the end of last year, the downstairs areas were refurbished with new flooring, furniture, curtains and light fittings et. Also, after a long break, they have employed an Activities person who is making a big difference in the home, keeping the residents entertained.
My concern has only ever been my husband and the safety aspect between active residents and wheelchair/wheelchair bound residents, as the staff are unable to watch constantly, so one carer should be allocated to watch the active residents from destroying the garden, furniture etc. Instead of keeping disabled residents in their rooms. On the upstairs floors, a carer should be visibly on duty to avoid distress, illness etc. The chairs in the lounges should be wiped and disinfected as soon as a person gets up incontinent /wet - this is not done. In my opinion, it appears to be a definite shortage of staff, as often shaving, toileting, nail cutting, and hand washing are not done nearly enough.
Reply from Guneet Brookes, Marketing Manager at Woodstock Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Were pleased to hear that you appreciate the environment at Woodstock and the care and support provided to your husband. Its always great to know families feel confident in the home.
Regarding the concerns youve raised, these have already been reviewed and addressed by the Home Manager, and appropriate actions have been taken. We will, of course, share your comments with the team, but please be assured that our hygiene standards, personal care routines, and resident supervision are consistently maintained to the highest level.
Our staff remain fully committed to the safety, wellbeing, and dignity of all residents, and we continually review practices to ensure every resident receives the attention and care they need.
Thank you again for your continued involvement and support.

While mum was in chapel house she had three investigations undertaken including neglect, we had issues with the care the staff provided including missing meals for her because she could not feed herself. Some of the staff here are fantastic but there is a long way to go to change the culture there.
Bells ring, staff tell off residents and some are bedridden and cannot help their selves, due to short staff they routinely do two person tasks single handed.
Personal care is lacking and bruises and marks, skin infections etc were not noticed until the family pointed things out.
The new managers are trying their best to change the way it's ran but from our experience there is a long way to go. However, upon our family members passing the management were extremely supportive in such a hard time.
Reply from Kate Collins, Regional Manager at Chapel House Care & Nursing HomeThank you so much for raising your concerns with myself at the time and affording us the opportunity to investigate incidents that fall below our expectations of the standards of care we provide at Chapel House. We were able to highlight issues with individual staff members who no longer work for the company. We are confident with the changes within the team these issues are now resolved and that the complaint was resolved with your satisfaction. Thank you also for your kind comments that the management and staff were supportive when your Mum passed away. We will ensure this feedback is shared with the team.

My father is a resident at this care home, and overall I am very happy with the care he receives. The staff are kind, attentive, and genuinely care about the residents' wellbeing. Communication has been good, and I feel reassured knowing he is in a safe and supportive environment.
The only area that
has felt lacking at times is the range and frequency of activities available for residents. However, it does seem that the home is aware of this and is making efforts to improve, which is encouraging.
Overall, I am pleased with the care provided and appreciate the commitment shown by the staff to ensure the residents' quality of life.
Reply from Guneet Brookes, Marketing Manager at Woodstock Nursing HomeThank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your feedback. We're really pleased to hear you're happy with the care your father receives, and we'll definitely pass your comments on to the team.
We also appreciate your note about activities, and we're glad to hear you've noticed the improvements being made. We'll continue to work on this and ensure residents have a good range of options.

Whenever I go into Woodstock, I am greeted politely and with a friendly smile.
I asked for mum to have a footstool in November and by December they were there. Mum is always happy and chatty when awake. The other residents are always happy and chatty. Clean and tidy. The house never smells or looks
untidy.
Reply from Guneet Brookes, Marketing Manager at Woodstock Nursing HomeThank you so much for sharing this with us. It's lovely to hear how welcomed you feel and how happy and well cared for your Mum is. Your kind words will be passed on to the team, who will really appreciate them.

Chapel House is lovely place with a nice homely feel. Staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Mum's room was clean, warm and very comfortable. Management were constantly visible, approachable and easy to speak to.
Mum received consistently good care and in her final days, and
even when she passed away, she and we her family, were well supported, treated with dignity, kindness and tenderness. Something we will never forget and will be forever grateful for.

My father was submitted to the Chapel House care home, following concerns we raised about the level of care he required as his parkinsons disease had reached the next level. The team at the care home welcomed us on the day he arrived, spent time talking to us before taking him to this room. The care
home felt clean, had good open spaces, was friendly, and the staff were very understanding. The room was located on the top floor, with easy access via a lift suitable for people who can walk or use wheelchairs. It had a bright, clean feel to the layout with good outside views. A large bathroom with a walk-in shower and a good-sized TV in the main living room. Plenty of storage for clothes and personal things. He has settled well, and we now feel a lot happier that his needs are being catered for 24/7, which we would have found difficult to do.
Reply from Guneet Brookes, Marketing Manager at Chapel House Care & Nursing HomeThank you very much for taking the time to share such detailed and positive feedback. We're really pleased to hear that your father has settled well and that you feel reassured his needs are being cared for around the clock. Your comments about the welcoming staff, facilities and overall environment are greatly appreciated and we will make sure this feedback is passed on to the Chapel House team.

My dad has Lewy Body dementia and has been in the home for maybe 6 months roughly. I just wanted to put a review as a huge thank you to the home's amazing staff, who do everything with love and care as if he were a member of their family. I wish he could be home with me, but Woodstock is the next best
thing. It might not look the poshest or most polished interior but the love and care are second to none, and the new Manager, Catherine appears to be a great new asset, professional, communicative and caring.
Reply from Guneet Brookes, Marketing Manager at Woodstock Nursing HomeThank you so much for your kind words. It truly warms our hearts to know that your dad feels loved and cared for here at Woodstock. We know how difficult it can be to have a loved one away from home, and hearing that our team can provide that sense of family and comfort means the world to us. We're thrilled that Catherine has made such a positive impression - she is a wonderful addition to our team, and your feedback will mean a lot to her. Thank you again for trusting us to care for your dad. It's an honour to have him as part of our Woodstock family.

On choosing Woodstock, I was pleased with the lady who showed me around. Later, I was told that a total of 6 months of refurbishment was in operation. It turned out to be a new front door and decoration on the Ground Floor was all. The room my wife was in was never cleaned properly, floor dust etc.
was left for 5 months, toilet rolls were missing for days at a time. Bins are not emptied after a day. the laundry service was a joke. My wife's clothes went missing, and strangers' clothes were in place instead. My wife lost her wedding ring, various clothes, a commemorative coin etc. The food was very basic, and no attempt to make a meal to appeal to her, was ever offered. My overview is that the Manager and her staff were doing their best to manage under severe financial restraints. The owners should be ashamed.
Reply from Stewart McGinn, CEO at Woodstock Nursing HomeWe note that your relative moved out some months ago. We have reviewed the concerns within your review and are disappointed that you felt that you could not raise these concerns at the time. This would have allowed us to fully investigate and respond to you. As a significant amount of time has passed it's now difficult to accurately investigate. We welcome all feedback and will always try to resolve any concerns immediately if afforded the opportunity to do so. The Homes' refurbishment has been underway for several months now, due to finish in Dec 2025. Regular cleaning checks are completed in the Home, overseen by the Manager. Our records show one clothing item was misplaced and later retrieved promptly, the initial inventory detailing your wife's possessions on arrival, did not include a wedding ring or commemorative coin. These concerns were not raised at the time of your wife living in the home. We would therefore reject your feedback as being unsubstantiated.

We have been extremely impressed by the level of care at Chapel House. From our initial visit and the ease of getting our Dad moved in, throughout his few short months here and especially in his last days, when every effort was made to keep him safe and cared for. We cannot adequately express how grateful
we are for the fact his last few months were as good as could be hoped for

When my husband presses the button for assistance he waits 15-25 minuts for help. His food is not cut up for him and he can not cut it himself. He does not get checked on very often.
