My Father has been very well cared for, he is a new resident to the care home. The staff have been so welcoming and are looking after him so well, he is washed daily, his clothes changed daily, lovely home-cooked food, a pleasant room and all staff we have met that have looked after him have been amazing. The manager and office staff are incredibly helpful and provide great advice. I must also congratulate the activities coordinators who provided a great selection of Christmas and New Year activities for all the residents, I visited when the Xmas party was taking place and it was a joy to see, residents were not only enjoying the music, dressed up for the occasion and wearing Christmas hats with some playing musical instruments as well.

During my wife's short stay at Woodstock Nursing Home, she was treated with great care and dignity throughout. The staff there were all lovely people!

Appointment for me and a cousin for 10.45 am-11.30 am on Wednesday 18th May. At 10.45 precisely we were admitted, processed for Covid by a nurse and made seven minutes late due to the printing of a form that needed filling. Also, no available space for entries in the visitor's book. Entered via garden to a room apparently dedicated for visits - one visit to the home at a time seemed the reason for the tight time schedule (why not use the resident's room?). Unhappy about her long, dirty fingernails, my sister was happy for me to trim them. I asked a carer in the next room for nail nippers. She directed me through the home to reception where I was given nippers. On trimming the first nail, the nurse appeared and told us it was time to go. We had ten minutes remaining of our 45-minute slot. The nurse said visiting slots were 20 minutes in duration. She would not allow me to finish trimming my sister's disgusting nails, saying that a chiropodist visited the home once per fortnight - a minimum of six weeks of my sister's nail growth. Sister's son had been promised her nails would be cut two days earlier. Poor management, communication, use of staff time, dignity to visitors, care of residents and use of facilities. Over application of Covid restrictions at the expense of humanity and resident care.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review for the home. We are very sorry that the experience of visiting your sister was not managed to your satisfaction. In addition, you raise concerns about the condition of your sister's fingernails. We have logged this as a complaint and will be...

This review relates to March because I have been unable to enter the home since then due to Covid-10. My mum is well down the path on her journey with Alzheimer's and is therefore unable to participate in most of the entertainment. I would wish for more one to one "chat" between her and the carers. Of course, staffing numbers and time available restrict what can be offered, which is a huge pity as I am currently unable to visit properly. Mum is confined to a wheelchair and I feel she is vulnerable to other residents who may wander into her room.

Reply from Sue Houldey, Operations Director at Woodstock Nursing Home

Thank you for your review of Woodstock Nursing Home. The Covid Pandemic has proved to be challenging for staff, residents and relatives alike. We have had to adapt our offerings of activities for residents and the staff have amended their offering to include more "one to one" and small group...

Since mum was made a resident of Woodstock she has been looked after with great care and consideration. She had been in a nursing home previously where she was quite distressed at times and staff had no time for residents.

Mum has been well looked after. She is eating more than she ever has and is happy in her own world. I have nothing but admiration for all the staff.

I was delighted with my mother's care whilst she was a resident at Woodstock. The staff were extremely supportive and kind to her. There was plenty of activities, good food and care and mum was happy there. Cleanliness was good and general overall feeling of the home was excellent. As a family, we were always made to feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble and the end of life care for mum was extremely well carried out from the carers and the nurses and also very informative.

During Mum's last few weeks at Woodstock Care Home, I couldn't have been happier with the love and care shown to her by all the staff. It is never an easy decision to admit that your loved one needs 24/7 professional care and we had never imagined we would find ourselves in this position. It is a huge ask to say to total strangers 'please look after my Mum'....but the lovely staff at Woodstock didn't remain strangers for long ....and I'm happy to say they are good friends now.
The nursing skills of those closest to Mum were given with such consideration for Mum's dignity and comfort. I felt that mum was in the safest and kindest place possible.....whilst all her needs were tended to.

A big thank you to all the staff at Woodstock Care Home in Brockworth Gloucester. .....you are all stars.

Over the year that my father has been at Woodstock, I have been struck by the kindness and loving care that he has received. It seems that the staff have infinite patience in their approach to the residents. For my siblings and me, it is a great relief to know that Dad is safe, secure and happy at Woodstock.

My mother stayed at Woodstock for over a year and throughout that time the staff and management were professional and at the same time incredibly caring.
Nothing was ever too much trouble for the carers and they went out of their way to befriend my mother and all of the other residents.
In the early days, they ensured my mum was interested and made to feel at home.

Towards the end, the staff showed amazing compassion and helped me through one of the most difficult periods of my life. I will always be grateful to the staff at Woodstock and regard them with great fondness.

My Auntie spent 3 years at Woodstock, and during this time she received exemplary care throughout. Her needs were complex and staff at all levels were unfailingly caring and compassionate. They made Woodstock a home and a community for us. When my aunt passed away staff were so supportive and went above and beyond the call of duty both to myself and my aunt.

Managers were caring and involved in each resident's care and took the time to know both residents and their families.

The home was lovely and the staff were very compassionate and caring.
The food was excellent and as my Dad is blind the carers were always there to give extra support to him.
There is a lovely, homely atmosphere and plenty of activities going on every day.

Dad was only there for respite after being in hospital, but if he ever needs full-time care I hope he will be able to go back to Woodstock.
