Situated in the South East of Somerset, almost on the borders of Dorset and Wiltshire, Elliscombe House is central to Wincanton, Bruton and Castle Cary. Built in 1901, this elegant Edwardian house has been lovingly restored to offer an uplifting, safe place to enjoy life.

Elliscombe House provides person-centred residential, nursing and respite care for up to 35 elderly individuals. It has all the comforts of home combined with the luxuries of a hotel, with qualified staff available at all times to respond to individual needs.

Whether a resident’s stay at Elliscombe House is just a two-week break or a permanent residency, everyone living in the home will be treated with the utmost dignity, compassion and respect. Whilst adhering to Public Health England guidelines, the home offers safe visiting facilities; allowing extended family and friends to stay connected, face-to-face, with loved ones.

My sister and I cannot recommend Elliscombe House highly enough. We needed to move Mum at short notice to a nursing home closer to the family and the manager and the team have ensured mum felt it was like coming home. Nothing is too much trouble whether that be day or night. The staff are very attentive,
not only to the care required but also to Mum's likes and dislikes, and always treat her as an individual. Mum is up and about every day being involved with crafts and activities and trips out into the lovely grounds of the home. Mum is happier now than she has been for a long time and we feel this is down to the care and attention she is receiving from everyone at Elliscombe.

As a family, we are very impressed with Elliscombe House. My mother came to Elliscombe initially for respite care, while she recovered from a health issue affecting her mobility - being increasingly frail, she then decided to stay and make Elliscombe her home. The staff could not have been kinder or
more helpful from my initial phone call onwards. The care offered to residents is amazingly attentive. All members of staff, from carers to chefs, build a connection with each resident, and careful thought is given to enable residents to settle quickly and comfortably. Other professionals, such as hairdressers, visit regularly. Nothing is too much trouble. The house has been beautifully and tastefully renovated and is designed to be a real "home from home". The menus are thoughtful and the food is delicious - very much fine dining and a daily pleasure.

My Mum decided to move from a Lancashire care home to live at Elliscombe, near to family in Somerset. The staff at Elliscombe have been amazingly supportive from the first phone call to the present day. We have been very fortunate to share the fantastic interaction and professional support with the
Elliscombe team, who have a common desire to care with the compassion, dignity, and care the residents deserve. Mum and the other residents are at the centre of everything the staff do and constantly aim “To get it right!” and meet every day with a big smile and cheery words. There is excellent communication between the staff and family to ensure that Mum’s needs are met each day! Mum has been eager to participate in the weekday activities that are planned and adapted to suit Mum, these activity sessions enable Mum to think and express her ideas and stimulate her mobility. I am always reassured when I leave Mum after visits, that she is safe, well cared for, enjoys yummy meals, and is inspired!

Amy

Amy Morgan

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2024

Amy relocated from London 3 years ago and says that she is never going back! She is a registered adult nurse and spent 11 years in the NHS in both clinical and service improvement roles. These included setting up an Integrated NHS service, which she then worked in and which is still in operation.


Amy is passionate about end-of-life care and has worked as an end-of-life educator in Somerset. She also loves musicals and often sings terribly (her words, not ours) to the residents.


Amy’s favourite colour is leopard print, and she has a rescue sausage dog called Frankie who loves cuddles, bacon, and visiting her adoptive grannies and grandads at Elliscombe House.

Sam Atherton

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2022

Sam joined the Army at 18 and served for15 years. Sam then worked in HR, Payroll Management and Accounts for many years until she became Wincanton Town Clerk in 2008.
Sam joined Elliscombe House in November 2022 hoping to reduce her working hours whilst remaining in a people-focused role, and she loves every minute of it!

Sandy qualified as a nurse in 2012 and has worked at Elliscombe House for 4 years. She has experience of delivering excellent end of life care, and project managed the implementation of the new electronic medication administration system. Outside of work, Sandy enjoys taking her Pomeranian cross, Rex, for walks.

Clare graduated from the University of Winchester in May 2024 with a BSC in Psychology and Child Development and is hoping to become a therapist in the future. She says that she is learning many new things at Elliscombe House! Away from work, Clare loves music and attending festivals.

Ben Dawes

Hi, my name is Ben & I am the Head Chef at Elliscombe House.


I trained at Somerset College, progressing my catering career from kitchen porter to head chef. I have managed several professional kitchens, predominantly in fine dining restaurants and the gastro-pub industry.


On any given day, I can be found creating dishes such as roasted venison loin, truffle butternut puree, celeriac fondants with a chocolate jus, or local pheasant breast, leg bon bon, pickled red cabbage & caramelised apple with a truffle dressing. I truly believe the most delicious cuisine is made simply with the best, fresh, high quality ingredients.
