My dad needed a local care home for end of life care. I visited Horton Cross, and they were extremely helpful in facilitating a room for him quickly. Even though he spent all of his time in his room, they have been very attentive and accommodating. It is a very clean and caring home.

We value all feedback from residents and families, as it helps us to maintain good practice and continuously improve the care we provide. Your involvement and dedication to ensuring the best possible care for your father were clearly evident, and it was a pleasure to meet you.

The staff at Horton Cross have been absolutely amazing over a very difficult period after losing my Father. I'd like to make a very special mention to Kathryn, she was amazing looking after my Mother and caring for my Father at this time. Everyone at Horton Cross, the manager, the chef, all the

We visited our aunt over a week's holiday in Somerset. Every time we turned up we were welcomed. Invited for coffee and cake, made to feel part of things. Our aunt is like she was before the stroke (except for the dementia) she is happy and settled, occupied by the many activities - we turned up when
she and the activities coordinator were preparing the pumpkin for Halloween. Our aunt likes to bake and is encouraged to do so. The home is bright, clean and airy. In the previous home we were reluctant to leave after visiting, but here we know that our aunt is happy, settled and cared for.
Reply from Elena-Luminita Porancea, Registered General Manager at Horton CrossThank you so much for your lovely feedback. We truly appreciate your kind words and are delighted to hear that your aunt is happy, settled, and enjoying her time with us at Horton Cross Nursing Home.
It means a lot to our team to know that their hard work and dedication are recognised. We strive to create a warm, welcoming, and engaging environment where every resident feels valued, supported, and at home.
We're also grateful for the wonderful involvement of families like yours - your visits and encouragement make such a difference. We remain committed to maintaining our high standards of care and to continuously learning and improving, so that every resident continues to enjoy a safe, happy, and fulfilling life here.

I've been delighted to see that the introduction of the Ambassador System has created such animation and discussion. A number of residents have been elected as Ambassadors for different things like gardening, baking or knitting. Some are more capable of utilising these positions but all have enjoyed
them. It has created not only discussion but a feeling of inclusion and purpose. Things that enrich the day to day quality of life, and make everything feel like home are so valuable. Improvements to the lounge and library area are a big hit and are being enjoyed by more residents. As with everything here, the residents rights and wishes are respected. I recently visited my Mum to find her reading alone in a quiet corner, while many residents were having a singalong in the lounge with a member of the clergy. Mum enjoys the social aspect of the lounge but also feels quite happy to take herself off to read in her room or somewhere else. Wonderful Staff doing a fabulous job.
Reply from Elena-Luminita Porancea, Registered General Manager at Horton CrossWe sincerely appreciate your lovely feedback. It is wonderful to hear that the Ambassador System has brought joy, purpose, and inclusion to our residents. Our team works hard to ensure that Horton Cross feels like a real home, where everyone is valued, respected, and encouraged to stay active and involved. Your kind words confirm that our staff are delivering care in line with our values and CQC standards, always putting residents' wellbeing first. We are grateful for the trust and partnership of our families, whose involvement helps us make every day meaningful. Your message motivates us to keep improving, maintaining high-quality, person-centred care, and ensuring every resident feels safe, fulfilled, and truly at home at Horton Cross.

Very happy with mum's care. Nice to see investment into property to up the standard. Have not really had any problems or concerns. Staff always happy and helpful. I have seen staff changes often over the 3 years, but have no reason to complain. All staff, past & present, have always been helpful and
made mums life as pleasant as can be expected under the circumstances.

Our grandma moved to Horton across a few months ago after moving from another nursing home. I can't explain how Horton exceeded all my expectations.
Grandma is really treated like an individual who has something to contribute to the place, not like a patient but a resident of a tight community.
She
is bounds happier here than where she has been previously - the freedom is the main thing, she can stay in her (very spacious personalised) room if she wishes, she can make her way down to the living room in the lift. She tells me the meals are lovely. The staff are so kind. There are so many things to keep them entertained - quizzes, garden parties, coffee mornings.
We are incredibly grateful to all the staff for their ongoing care and kindness.

Facilitating care can be very complex and hard to be perfect for everyone but I would genuinely recommended this place.

The level of care that my late father received from the team at Horton Cross Nursing Home has been absolutely fantastic. He'd been given all the help and support he'd needed during his stay there, and the staff members had all been very kind, caring, courteous, and considerate throughout.
That said,
having to wait three months after his death for the deposit repayments to be given the authorisation to be refunded in full by Sentimental Care was rather frustrating to say the least. The management and admin at Horton Cross also felt that it reflected badly on them, especially as they were the ones who had to chase things up on our behalf. None of this was in any way their fault, however, and it in no way detracted from the high level of care which they'd provided.
IF Sentimental Care addresses the speed with which it makes repayments to the bereaved following the loss of a loved one to back up that high level of nursing care, I'm sure it would make it an even better experience for all concerned.
Reply from Elena-Luminita Porancea, Registered General Manager at Horton CrossThank you sincerely for your thoughtful feedback. We are honoured to have had the privilege of caring for your late father and supporting both him and your family during his time with us. It was always a pleasure to share conversations with him, with you, and with your wonderfully kind mother, who will always remain very special to us at Horton Cross Nursing Home. Our focus is always on ensuring the safety, happiness, and well-being of our residents, while also offering support to their families. We are proud that you felt your father received the care, kindness, and respect he deserved, and it means a great deal to the whole team to know that this was recognised. We truly regret the frustration caused by the delay in the deposit refund process. Although this matter was outside of our direct control, we understand the added difficulty it created during an already very painful time. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we worked alongside the admin team to help resolve

A lovely manager is welcoming and takes time to listen. A friendly, welcoming environment with attentive and motivated staff. Well led team, well maintained environment. Residents are encouraged to get involved with the activities, including accessing the recently refurbished garden. Staff work efficiently

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.423) out of 10 for Horton Cross is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.423 for Horton Cross is calculated as follows: ( (190 Excellents x 5) + (70 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (17 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 291 Ratings = 4.423
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Horton Cross is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
