The overall view of Ivelhurst Nursing Home is very good. The care is also very good. They could improve the rooms and especially the bathrooms could do with an update as it all looks tired. The stairs could be a hazard to anyone who is mobile. Wish there was more outside space. All the staff are lovely
possibly extra lovely with the residents, nurses too are very professional and keep you informed.
Reply from Laura Allcock, Office Manager at Ivelhurst Nursing Home LtdThank you for your valuable comments we are in progress of a refurbishment of the home and its surroundings. We hope to improve the overall look of the home in time. We will pass the compliments to our staff and nursing team.

My sister and I were extremely happy with the compassionate care our mother received whilst in Ivelhurst Nursing Home. The staff were friendly, kind, and most of all, treated our other as an individual. I would have no hesitation in recommending Ivelhurst. When our mother passed away, my sister and
I were given time to grieve and not rushed in any way to vacate her room.

Mum had sarcoma cancer and went into Ivelhurst for palliative care. My mother was alert and full of mental faculties but had a tumour that would take her life.
We were tipped off by the hospital that this was a good place to go and it was more than a home from home. The staff are attentive and professional
but also an excellent team and happy people.
My mum got to know them all well and they cared for mum in every way from health and grooming, to dressing and looking after her needs. As her medical needs grew over time they managed her care with professionalism and dignity.
We were welcomed as visitors any time and gave us 6 weeks of a happy time with Mum despite her illness.
I could not imagine better care and nursing services. They do really care.

My father was an end-of-life resident, staying from Saturday to Wednesday, NHS-funded. The staff that supported Dad were professional, kind and caring. The owner should be proud of his team.
We were very disappointed in the room, outdated furniture, shelves too high which the resident could not see,
just not cosy. Difficult to get an ambulance stretcher into the room so had to be hoisted, upsetting for family.
Reply from Laura Allcock, Office Manager at Ivelhurst Nursing Home LtdThank you for your valuable feedback about the experience that you had during the time that your father was with us at Ivelhurst. I am glad that the care you experienced was to the standard that we would expect as we are passionate about providing the best service. I understand the comments regarding the room that your father stayed in, it was unfortunate that at the time this was the room that we had available, it is not one that we would usually use for providing palliative support. It is something that we have taken on board and will ensure to make changes going forward. Thank you again.

Ivelhurst Nursing Home was phenomenal in looking after my dear father-in-law. My father-in-law only spent a few months in the care home from September 2023 to January 2024 but the professionalism, respect and dignity shown to him in his final days and weeks of life were second to none.
My mother-in-law,
who visited twice a day, was always kept well informed of the events of the day, the care given and his health reports.
The atmosphere of the home is calm and relaxed, everybody is friendly and welcoming. Most importantly it feels like a ‘home’ when you walk in, rather than a medical facility. We will be eternally grateful for the compassion shown to my father-in-law. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this very caring and loving home for anybody looking for support for a loved one.
Reply from Laura Allcock, Office Manager at Ivelhurst Nursing Home LtdThank you so much for your kind words about the experience you had with the services provided at Ivelhurst Nursing Home. My mother has been a resident in Ivelhurst Nursing Home for nearly four years. The care provided has been excellent and the staff are friendly and helpful. Mum’s behaviour can be challenging but the staff meet regularly and discuss ways of dealing with this, explaining to us what methods are used to
manage her care and ensure she is treated with dignity and consideration. She used to enjoy the activities but now prefers to stay in her room, although she is encouraged to join other residents occasionally. Overall, the care she has had has met, if not exceeded, our expectations. Being able to discuss Mum’s situation with the nursing team is reassuring for the family and we are confident in the care provided.
Reply from Laura Allcock, Office Manager at Ivelhurst Nursing Home LtdThank you for your kind words regarding the care your mother has received during her time at Ivelhurst Nursing Home. We feel it is important to communicate and share ways of working with everyone involved in the residents' care, this includes family and friends, who have valuable, past history knowledge which can help to create strategies for assisting residents to feel calm and safe. The nursing team are always available to help assist with any questions or concerns at any time.

My mother was transferred here from hospital, when I visited an hour or so later she was settled into her bed. First impressions with the forms were good, staff made a good impression on me. Also, the room was warm and cosy, the surroundings clean and well-managed. My mother died here and dealt with
the necessary arrangements compassionately. Overall, a good care home.

My mother at the time of this review has been at Ivelhurst for just over a year . Until recently, she was living in the residential area, but with a decline in mobility and general health, has moved to the nursing side.
Since admission, Mum has been treated with respect and kindness. Her personal hygiene
needs are well cared for. The catering is home-cooked and has the right portion size and frequency to encourage a small, mature appetite. The rooms, although, some are small and don’t all offer views, are kept very clean and well furnished if required. Mum bought lots of personal furniture and effects from home.
The staff are welcoming and professional, communicating with respect and affection. I’m so pleased that sadly, as my mother needed full-time care eventually, she came to Ivelhurst.
Reply from Laura Allcock, Office Manager at Ivelhurst Nursing Home LtdThank you so much for your kind words. One of the benefits that we are able to provide is the option for residents to move from residential to nursing without having to move to another home. Generally we have found the staff at Ivelhurst to be friendly, efficient and compassionate. My mother-in-law appears well cared for and her wishes are respected. Her practical needs are well met.
When we have had an issue eg: the light in the bedroom, it was seen to after the second time we reported
it.
Our only concern, which is no doubt due to staff being stretched has been lack of supervision if she eats meals in her room.

Mum took a while to settle in as this was her first experience of a nursing home. The staff are mostly very kind, gentle and considerate; however, they do not always take the time to listen/understand when she talks to them. It is very clean and well-maintained, and the food is excellent. I think it
is expensive; however, I am certain Mum is happy and safe.

My wife was in Ivelhurst Nursing Home for two years and three months with Parkinson’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease Dementia until her death. During that time, she received excellent care, consideration and understanding from the nurses and carers. As her dementia worsened, she was often uncooperative
and aggressive when staff wanted to move her or give her medication. The nurses and carers handled these occasions with great patience and understanding of her condition.
I was always kept informed of any problems with my wife's health and involved in any decisions that needed to be made.
I was able to visit my wife as often as I wished, to have lunch with her and to stay as long as I wanted. I got to know all the members of the staff, and they were all very friendly. It felt as if I was visiting my family, was the friendly welcome I received. My thanks to all the staff at Ivelhurst Nursing Home for the loving care my wife received and your friendship with me.

My 94 year old mother has been in the residential section for the last 16 months. She has a ground floor room with ensuite facilities. There is a bed, reclining chair and ample cupboard and wardrobe space. Her limited ability to walk unattended means she needs to be hoisted in and out of bed and into
her reclining chair. She watches tv in her room as she prefers her own company and environment.
The room is well kept and clean.
She can be awkward and demanding at times. Regardless the staff attend to her every need bringing her meals to her room as well as regular tea and biscuits. The staff are always smiling and create a very welcoming and caring atmosphere.
Visiting hours are extensive starting at 11:00 through to 19:00, excluding the lunch time period 12:00 to 14:00. She is visited by the chiropodist, hair dresser and nail beautician.
She needs for nothing and I am happy for her to remain at Ivelhurst for the years to come.

My mum came to Ivelhurst in 2022 and has received the most excellent care. I haven't worried about her being there as she always seems happy and well cared for. The staff seem extremely caring. They always chat with her and make sure she has drinks. Her room is small and cosy with a television. The
home has musicians who come in and sing with the residents. They also have parties at different times of the year. Food seems to be varied and always looks very appetising. The home always seems warm whenever I visit.

My father was wonderfully cared for from May 2017 until his death in October, firstly in residential then nursing care for the last 5 months of life. I was initially anxious as I had always expected to care for him myself, but that was not to be. However, I need not have worried as the care he received
was exemplary from the early days when my husband and I were able to take him for regular trips out, through his gradual decline until those last few months when he became bed-bound when I spent several whole days a week at his side. All the staff from every department were fantastic and I was able to 'camp' in his room for the last 60 hours of his life, sometimes alone, sometimes with other family members, until he died with my arm around him. We were treated with the utmost dignity and respect but also with friendly kindness for the entire two and a half years. As a family, we cannot praise the staff highly enough and will not hesitate to recommend Ivelhurst to others.

Our 93-year-old father was taken ill and after a spell in hospital decided that he wanted no more treatment but to be allowed to die peacefully.
The hospital fast-tracked him to Ivelhurst for end of life care and for the short time he was there until his death, he was treated with great care and dignity
by friendly and skilful staff who understood his wishes and needs, as well as always making the family welcome and supporting us too. We would have no hesitation in recommending Ivelhurst to anyone in similar circumstances.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.615)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.615) out of 10 for Ivelhurst Nursing Home Ltd is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.615 for Ivelhurst Nursing Home Ltd is calculated as follows: ( (203 Excellents x 5) + (62 Goods x 4) + (21 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 288 Ratings = 4.615
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ivelhurst Nursing Home Ltd is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 registered maximum number of service users is 11.6, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
