The Knoll Nursing Home is a traditional, well established building lying within substantial grounds. Modernised over the years, the home is registered for 47 residents with nursing and residential needs. The home offers long and short term care and also day care for adults together with specialist care for the elderly frail, respite care, convalescent and palliative care.

At their most recent CQC inspection in January 2021, The Knoll was rated as 'good' overall and they also received an ‘outstanding’ in the outcome, 'Is the service caring?'

As well as maintaining the highest possible standards of personal care, staff offer expert nursing care. Working closely with local health professionals, the fully-qualified nursing and care staff are able to offer dedicated medical care to residents, 24 hours a day. Nursing care goes beyond the everyday welfare of resents to include such things as post-operative care and specific nursing support for chronic and terminal illness.

A professional and highly qualified team introduce a tailor made and constantly evolving care plan for each resident and involving family, friends and medical practitioners. Residents need not be concerned, as every effort is made to preserve dignity and self-respect as well as providing choice to enjoy life.

The Knoll is committed to providing an innovative and holistic approach to activities for the enjoyment of residents whether in groups or one on one. Staff have developed innovative ideas to encourage residents to engage in meaningful and varied activities if they so wish.

Dining at The Knoll Nursing Home is designed to be a pleasure both socially and gastronomically. The chefs use fresh produce sourced from nearby suppliers such as the local town butcher. Menus are changed seasonally with the input of residents and are designed to be nutritious and to suit a wide range of dietary requirements.

All the staff are well trained and very competent in their roles. Good, friendly and helpful relationships. The help given to residents is excellent and the home is always clean and tidy. The information given about the resident is good. My wife is in a very good and safe environment.

Dad has now been a resident at The Knoll for five months and has settled well. The quality of care and kindness of the staff is outstanding. Nothing is too much trouble and dad loves the food! We had no experience of care homes before and have been helped through the process by the admin staff. It isn't
an easy decision to make, but the peace of mind we now have knowing dad is safe and looked after is worth more than anything. It's a lovely place.

Care for my mother during the difficult period of lockdown, was excellent and staff worked hard to protect the residents, family and staff. End of life care for my mother and for us, as a family, was sensitive and very kind. The Knoll cares for residents as part of their big family and we have been

I have no experience in any other nursing home, so I cannot make a comparison. Also, the Covid outbreak has made visiting a less pleasant experience than it should be; and there have been many weeks when it has been unsafe to visits. However, it is also unfortunate that so much building works are being
done at present so that I am unable to comment on the gardens, which are a selling point in your brochure. My parent finds most of the staff very helpful, though a few are not taking so much trouble as at first. I, myself have found all the staff very helpful; they listen to any small problems and act promptly to cure them.

Our mother was a resident in The Knoll for approximately two years, and during this time, she has been cared for with dignity and compassion.
All members of staff contributed to making each day as comfortable and happy as possible, always attending to her personal needs with cheerful efficiency and
consideration. The home is warm, clean and well organised. The meals were varied and clearly enjoyed by the residents, my mother included. Her room was bright, warm and well equipped. We were involved from the beginning with her care plan and kept up to date with any changes.
On behalf of our mother and ourselves, we thank the staff for the dedicated care they have provided and would not hesitate to recommend the home.

My father was treated with the utmost dignity and respect during his few months at The Knoll Nursing Home. All of the staff were very kind and pleasant to my father and we were always made to feel very welcome when we visited. It is obvious when visiting that the staff genuinely care about the well-being
of their residents. It was reassuring to know that dad was receiving the care and support he deserved.

Joanna

Joanna McLaughlin

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2014

As the Registered Manager, Jo is responsible for the day-to-day running of The Knoll Nursing Home and has overall responsibility for the social and health needs of the residents. She is also the ‘face’ of the home to health and social care professionals.
Jo’s responsibilities include maintaining the quality standards at the home, safeguarding controls, and health and safety, as well as overseeing the care provided by the staff team. She is also responsible for staffing matters, the maintenance of the home, and its finances.
Jo has extensive experience in the care sector, having worked in it since 1990, and holds the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership in Health and Social Care.

Caroline

Caroline Sharpe

Job Title: Clinical Lead Joined: 2019

Caroline joined us as the Clinical Lead in September 2019.


As a Registered Nurse, she has 30 years experience within the care home sector working as a nurse and a home manager.
Caroline oversees a small team of registered nurses and care practitioners ensuring high standards of care and working with a person-centred care approach.
She assists the manager on a day to day basis and is always happy to answer any questions
Her biggest achievement is winning Manager of the year (Somerset Care Awards) and being selected in the top five of the National care awards for the Dementia Manager of the year.

Bindu is a Registered General Nurse, and before working at The Knoll Nursing Home she worked at a local care home.

Dana McLaughlin

Job Title: Head of Care and Housekeeping Joined: 2009

As the Head of Care and Housekeeping, Dana supports the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of The Knoll Nursing Home. Dana is responsible for the recruitment of new staff, and she also provides their training. Dana mentors those staff who choose to study for Diplomas in Health and Social Care, offering advice and guidance on this and any other aspect of care work.


As Head of Housekeeping Dana is also responsible for the domestic staff team, ensuring that high standards of cleanliness are upheld at all times and managing the home’s housekeeping budget.


Dana holds the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership in Health and Social Care and has worked in care for the past 15 years.

Weiji

Weiji Goa

Job Title: Chef Joined: 2019

As the Chef, Weiji plans and provides nutritious meals for our residents. He writes our 4-week menu plans, using fresh and seasonal ingredients to ensure that the residents have a varied diet and that the food meets their preferences and requirements. He also manages all the kitchen staff and is responsible for the home’s food budget. Weiji also ensures that all health and safety and environmental health standards are achieved and maintained.
