Marian House is an exceptional care home for older people located in Sutton Coldfield. The nursing home has been awarded a ‘good’ rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) report in April 2023. With the most recent refurbishment completed in 2022, the nursing home is spacious, modern and beautifully presented.

Marian House offers a comprehensive range of 24-hour nursing care services for the elderly. Residents enjoy an exceptional lifestyle with access to various amenities both inside the nursing home and out in the local community. The dedicated activities team regularly organise group and one-to-one activities tailored to the needs of the residents.

There is always something happening at Marian House. Some residents enjoy being kept busy with light activities and friendly conversations with professional care staff, while others seek longer moments of peace and quiet. As such, they appreciate the day-to-day life of all residents will differ. The team work around residents' needs and preferences, while ensuring their health (physical and emotional) stays top of mind.

Being a specialist nursing care provider the home is equipped with lifts aids and hoists for residents with specialised mobility needs. All the nursing beds have recently been replaced with new, modern adjustable models - without looking “clinical”. There are two good-sized lounges for residents and visitors to relax and socialise with each other. In the warmer weather the residents have full use of another lounge which extends into the dining room and overlooks the leafy garden.

The home also boasts a hydrotherapy unit which has been recently installed into the building.

There is Wifi available throughout the home allowing regular FaceTime calls to be made for residents who wish to connect with their loved ones (the professional carers will even show you how it’s done).

We cannot speak highly enough the home. After our uncle had spent over ten years in another home, we became increasingly concerned about the level of care he was receiving. Making the decision to move him was incredibly difficult, especially knowing how disruptive such a change can be, but it has proven
to be one of the best decisions we have ever made.

From the moment he arrived, the difference was clear. Thanks to the kindness, patience, and professionalism of the staff, he settled remarkably quickly. He is now up and about every day, happy, engaged, and genuinely enjoying everything the home has to offer. Seeing such a positive change in his wellbeing has been incredibly reassuring for our whole family.

The standard of care is night and day compared to his previous home. The staff clearly know their residents as individuals and treat them with dignity, warmth, and respect. We only wish we had made the move sooner.

Reply from Anna Whitehouse, Home Manager at Marian House Nursing HomeThank you so much for sharing your experience. It warms our hearts to hear how well your Uncle has settled in and how much he's enjoying life here. We're thrilled that our team's kindness, patience, and care have made such a positive difference-seeing our residents happy, engaged, and comfortable is exactly why we do what we do.

We know how difficult it can be to make the decision to move a loved one, and we feel truly honored that you trusted us with his care. Your kind words mean the world to our staff and inspire us to continue giving each resident the attention and respect they deserve.

We're so glad he's part of our community, and we look forward to many more happy days together!

Marian House is a fantastic home with the emphasis on the word home. Our Dad was very lucky to have spent his last months there. He was given six weeks to live but lived for six months this was due to the outstanding care he received. Our Dad was treated with upmost respect and kindness by every single
member of staff. Nothing was too much trouble, an extra blanket, an extra pillow and our Dad's favourite an extra cup of tea. All of this care was delivered with warmth, kindness and humour. From entering this home to leaving it you are greeted with cheer and warmth. As a family this care, kindness and respect was extended to us especially when we needed it most. Five stars isn't adequate I wish I could give many more. I can't recommend Marian House highly enough.
Reply from Alix Barr, Administrator at Marian House Nursing HomeThank you so much for your heartfelt words. It was an absolute privilege to care for your Dad and to get to know your family during his time with us. We are so pleased that he felt at home here, knowing that those small comforts made a difference means the world to our team.
We aim for Marian House to feel like a real home. I'll make sure to pass your lovely words onto the whole team who will be so touched to hear your feedback. Our thoughts are with you all.

My dad arrived in October 2023, at 58 he was a younger resident but had a terminal illness and was unable to care for himself. He went there, not by choice, however, he learned to love and enjoy his time there, and I know he kept the staff on their toes! The staff were wonderful and because of their
dedication and support in caring and looking after him, we were blessed with nearly another year with him. All of the staff were kind and attentive, if you are thinking about allowing your loved one to be cared for by the team at Marion House then know that everyone there will do their utmost to treat your loved one with dignity and care.

It was hard making the decision to put Mum into nursing care after we lost our Dad. Mum had a fall and was unable to walk. Leaving Mum at home with carers was not an option as Mum has always had people around here. It took a while for Mum to settle in and she has her moments but the care she gets from
Marian House is fantastic and I know she is happy with our choice.

Having cared for my wife who has Alzheimer's for many years, I was very afraid of admitting my wife into a care home. The management and all the staff at Marian House have proved that I needn't have worried so much. My wife is now getting the stimulation and continuous care that I struggled to give
her.
The management and staff go out of their way to ensure I am kept up to date on how my wife is settling in and also they keep an eye on me as they know I am very sad that I had put my wife into care.

My 92-year-old mother moved into Marian House at the beginning of November 2023 following the death of her husband and a subsequent stroke and heart attack. She has a lovely, bright, airy room and is very well cared for by the wonderful staff. Everyone is friendly and welcoming, and she has settled
in very well after living independently and caring for my father for many years. It was a great shock to us, but we are glad that she is safe and happy. I would highly recommend Marian House based on our experience.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2025

I have been a Registered General Nurse for over 20 years. I have a BSc Hons in Health Studies, NVQ Level 5 in Leadership and Management and Mentorship in Nursing Practice. I have also completed Lead to Succeed and Rise programme with My Home Life England. I worked in the NHS in various settings for 10 years and then started work in the Care Sector in 2012.

At Marian House, we have a wonderful team, and I am a firm believer that when you have a happy staff team, the positivity spreads to everyone.

We receive lots of positive feedback about how caring and friendly the staff are, and that the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. We focus on getting to know your loved ones to ensure we deliver person-centred care with family and friends’ involvement.

It is so lovely to hear the laughter in the corridors when staff and the people that we support are interacting with one another. There is a strong ethos here to treat people how you would like to be treated yourself, encouraging independence, individual choice and preferences.

We are always here to help with any questions or queries you may have. We look forward to welcoming you to our home

Sarah Monkman

Job Title: Lead Activities Coordinator Joined: 2021

I joined this great team in April 2021 as a care assistant, progressing to Senior Carer later that year. I took the role of Lead Activity Coordination in March 2024 after helping out with activities and finding that I loved the job and wanted to do it permanently.

Before joining Marian House, I worked as a Care Coordinator for a domiciliary care company as well as a dispenser in a pharmacy. I worked at both for several years before deciding to move over to nursing care.

I have found a passion for End-of-life care as well as Dignity in care. I have done a lot of training on these subjects which aids me in providing this care for the residents here at Marian House. I have just qualified in my NVQ Level 4 in Lead Adult Care, which I am very proud of. I love my job and thoroughly enjoy bringing joy and smiles to the resident's faces and lives, as well as coming up with new ideas and finding entertainment groups for the home.

Outside of work, my husband and I and our dog spend a lot of time outside, whether it be in the garden, gardening and looking after our pond, or going out for walks around our local Park. I enjoy playing the guitar, and my dad and I have regular jamming sessions, to our neighbour's dismay.
