The activities at the care home are fantastic and bring so much joy to the residents! There is always something fun and meaningful to take part in. The team put so much thought and effort into planning a variety of activities that suit different interests and abilities. Everyone within the home works so hard to create a safe, welcoming caring environment. The kindness and dedication shown everyday makes such a positive difference to the lives of the residents and their families. My mom is very happy in the home, thankyou for making each day enjoyable and helping residents feel valued included and inspired

This is an excellent care home. The rooms are amazingly well equipped and maintained. If residents need any extras they are readily privided if possible. The home is clean and welcoming set in beautiful surroundings.Staff work well together and know each resident as as an individual and tailor their approach to their needs.Residents are free to stay in their rooms or use the communal facilities. The manager is helpful and maintains regular contact with relatives through a weekly e mail and events are advertised at the entrance.Administrative staff are pleasant and efficient and resolve any issues quickly.Residents have a choice of food and those who stay in their rooms are provuded with the menu so tgey can choose from a wide range of options. This is a real gem of a home and my friend has been privileged to be placed here.

My mother-in-law spent seven years in River Brook Care Home. Throughout all those years she was cared for with tenderness, compassion and patience. Her medical, social and emotional needs were met right to the moment of her death. She was treated with great care, affection and dignity. The staff were welcoming to us as visitors and always kept us up to date with any changes in her needs/circumstances.

I have a high level of confidence that my vulnerable but characterful father in his mid 90s is receiving the best possible care physically and emotionally at River Brook Care Home, where he has lived for 3 years with dementia and increasing immobility. There is low staff turnover amongst carers and nurses which allows staff to get to know and meet resident needs in depth. Residents are routinely treated with gentleness and affection and there is consistent vigilance from the nurses. The building is impressively spacious and the garden is a delight. Safety, security and cleanliness are never a worry. Activities offered have recently improved.

My mother has been a resident for over a year. I find the staff helpful, kind and considerate. They are very caring and very approachable. The environment is comfortable and welcoming. The home is clean and tidy. The garden is beautiful and a pleasure to sit in. The management team & staff encourage families to get involved with the entertainment & activities. So this helps with the residents feel like they belong and can spend valuable time with relatives. If are any issues, relatives/visitors are encouraged to speak up and the Management team with efficently. I would highly recommend this care home.

The only thing i would add , is there have been a number of managerment changes over the past year and i feel this is not good for maintaining continuity, for residents & families having to build relationships with new managers and ensure they understand the needs of their loved ones. Having said that the transition has not been too bad.

My husband has been a resident at Andrew Cohen House since early March this year following a severe stroke and other medical issues. He has been treated with great care, dignity and understanding. He is very happy with the care and respect that he is shown. He greatly appreciates all the staff and all that they do for him. As his wife, I am very relieved that he is happy and taken great care of as his needs are quite numerous and I would be unable to manage his care on my own.

Very impressed with end-of-life care offered to Mum. She was admitted following negative experience of care at home. Caring, knowledgeable and attentive staff. We were kept fully informed and involved until his death on 7/11/23.

Unable to comment on value for money as it was funded. We had no involvement with the arrangements.

Excellent levels of care, comfort and friendliness provided by dedicated teams of nurses, carers and other members of staff at Andrew Cohen House. My needs were met at every point during my stay from the time of arrival to all times when help was needed. The care home's outstanding rating for care is well justified.

My dad spent 17 days at Andrew Cohen House. We cannot thank them enough for the quality, care and how supportive and welcoming they are. Dad had spent months isolated in hospital and to have access to the basics like TV and choosing his favourite egg and cress sandwiches meant so much. The manager and her team are fantastic and I don’t wish to mention more names as I know I will forget to mention others but they are all fab. Everyone was so supportive afterwards as well to both myself, Mum and especially Dad. Everyone respected my dad’s wishes. I cannot put in words how grateful we are that we found Andrew Cohen House for my dad.

It was an absolute pleasure to care for this gentleman and to be able to make such a difference to his final days. Often it is not long enough but meeting families and being able to make a difference to people's final few weeks or months, makes our role so worthwhile. It's the little things that often matter to us all and we are privileged to be able to do this. Thank you for this lovely review.

My late wife's mother who is 94yrs old is being cared for by the wonderful staff at Andrew Cohen House. I visited her two weeks ago and from the first moment I stepped into the building, I was so impressed, not only with the cleanliness of the rooms but with the general atmosphere of peace and calm. All the staff I encountered were friendly, smiley and welcoming and seemed to be enjoying their work. There were numerous staff, some helping with lunch, others sitting and conversing with residents. The two members of staff who put my mother-in-law back to bed after she had finished her lunch, showed the utmost kindness and care when using the hoist and ensured her dignity at all times. The bedroom was bright, roomy and clean and it was warming to see treasured family photographs had been hung within her view. I know her daughters, both who have sadly predeceased her, would have been so very happy to see how well their mother is being cared for.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It is so good to see that the values and ethos we instil in our staff are reflected in the day to day care of the residents. Once again we appreciate your kind words and we hope to keep this level of service in place at Andrew Cohen House.

February 2019 was the first anniversary of mother's residency at Andrew Cohen House, where she and all the other residents are treated with dignity and respect.
Because my home is over a 100 miles away I usually only visit three times a year, which is roughly every four months - Christmas, Easter and mother's birthday in August, she will be 96 in 2019. However, I do usually phone at least once a month to speak to her to let her know I haven't forgotten about her despite the distance between us and to put my mind at rest that all is OK. She always says that she is being well looked after, which is a great comfort to me, being so far from her.

Fortunately my brother visits at least once a week as he works close to Andrew Cohen House, and we usually speak by phone at least once a month. He always advises me that mother is happy and well cared for and that it was an excellent decision to place her in their care when her vascular dementia made it unwise for her to continue living alone in her home.

Reply from Estelle Rowe, Director at River Brook Care Home

It has been our pleasure to look after this resident who is a cheerful and lively member of our community. It is also good to know that relatives, even those at a distance, feel reassured and confident with the care we provide.
