My mom arrived at the home in Jan this year after a period of time in Hospital. Mom was there for five months before she sadly passed away. I cannot fault any staff that cared for her and felt she was cared for like her own family would have done. Everyone was approachable and would always make time
to answer any questions and would support mom with anything we asked of them. The management made us feel welcome from the start. We are so glad mom got to spend her last few months here and would highly recommend this home if anyone was looking in the future.

We are very happy that out mum who is 95 now is here at this nursing home. It is always a stress to find a nursing home for your loved ones
The staff and the carers are attentive and make our mum feel as though she was at home.
Our mum has two families now and we can't be happier knowing our mum is
being looked after.

My nan has been a resident for 6 months now. The staff are very approachable and friendly. They always listen to my concerns and do their best to fix any issues that arise.
The overall care is very good, the ward round with the nurse and GP is well co-ordinated and I am informed of any changes.

All the staff are kind, caring, patient and have all the time in the world, not only for the residents, but also for the visitors.
The level of care, understanding and the willingness to make the residents as comfortable as possible is second to none.

All of the staff, nurses, carers, maintenance man, administrator and manager have been excellent to us as visitors. They are always readily available to discuss situations concerning our resident, my sister. As one walks through the home it is noticeable that it is attractively decorated and is always
clean and tidy. Carers can frequently be seen attending sensitively to the personal needs of residents. The food looks appetising and staff always consult residents on their preferences.

My mother has been a resident for more than 2 and a half years. I have not had any reason to submit a complaint about her care in that time. The building is always clean and there are never any "untoward" smells.
In recent weeks staff have been more pro-active towards resident needs.

Mother admitted direct from hospital in December 2012 extremely poorly. Staff very understanding and helpful with advice as nursing home had not previously been considered. Everyone very welcoming and mum settled quite quickly, given circumstances. Against the odds Mum has continued to thrive under
the excellent care and attention she has received. On the appointment of the current manager, Marlene, a number of improvements were noted - little touches that made the atmosphere more homely eg tablecloths in dining room, flowers on tables and in reception, a general tidying of public areas and themed events - "picnic table" cruets for the summer, historic photos on display, halloween decor, etc.

Recently Marlene has been extremely helpful in arranging and settling mother-in-law in for respite, again admitted direct from hospital.

Cannot fault any member of this team - a gem of a find for those seeking a safe haven for their relatives.

Current Review Score: 8.3 (8.296)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.296) out of 10 for Brownhills Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.521 for Brownhills Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (30 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.521
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.775 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Brownhills Nursing Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 10 = 0.4
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
