I cannot praise the Hawthorns enough, fantastic care provided. Staff are caring, kind and treat my dad with respect, taking the time to get to know him - and he has a laugh with them. They always have time for my dad, always chatting to him, and from the moment he arrived he has seemed settled and content.
Thank you for everything you do!

When first introduced to Mary & the staff I knew my mum was going to be happy at Hawthornes , it wasn't an easy transition as mum had a fractured hip but the nursing team and wonderful carer's took charge and did everything to assist & help my mum come back to now not lying in bed all day to being hoisted
to go into the lounge room, and when entertainment is on into the cafe area to listen & join in, from going in mum wasn't eating or drinking!
She now feeds herself & goes into the lounge room with others.
Couldn't ask for better care. Thank you to all at Hawthornes

An amazing Christmas day. Staff went all out to make it a magical day for residents and visitors. Hawthorns staff are all excellent carers and nursing staff, the place runs so well from the top down. The nurses are informative and attentive, the carers all seem to know the residents differing needs,
the kitchen staff supply great food for so many different dietry needs, the laundry staff keep the clothing and bedding etc clean, the domestic staff keep the place nice and clean. Well done all. The Hawthorns would be very hard to beat.

My husband has had difficulty in settling but has always been treated with kindness, even when he has been agitated and sometimes aggressive. I have always been informed of any problems and I am very impressed with the recording of even minor details. Not only do the staff and nurses treat my husband
with respect but they have shown concern for me also during this difficult settling in period.
Reply from Mary Tasker, Home Manager at The Hawthorns Nursing HomeThank you so much for your kind feedback. My father has been a resident in The Hawthorns since November 2024 , I am more than pleased with my father's care . On entering the home I'm always greeted by the wonderful reception team and also made to feel at home , I always find my Dad clean and tidy , this would mean a lot to him as cleanliness
and hygiene has been a must fir him throughout his life . Staff seem to have time to talk to him and are always receptive to mine and my mothers wishes , all in all we couldn't ask for better care , a big thumbs up to The Hawthorns.

The Hawthorns Nursing Home is kindness, caring and love because that is exactly what my Mum has been given since arriving there 10 weeks ago. She is treated like a queen and is given dignity and choice every day. Mum loves it there - it's like one big family and that is everything. We as a family have
been supported and continue to be knowing that we are always listened to and included. Mum has made many friends amongst the residents and their families and is always eager to share her news of them with us. There is a lovely garden which Mum enjoys sitting in and many activities to join in if she wants to. She has already visited my brother in using the minibus - something she hadn't been able to do for over 2 years. Mum is happy - so we as a family are happy - and that is worth everything.
Reply from Mary Tasker, Home Manager at The Hawthorns Nursing HomeThank you so much for your kind and heartfelt words. We're truly delighted to hear that your Mum feels at home here and is enjoying the care, companionship, and activities. It means the world to us to know the whole family feels supported and included. We'll continue doing our very best to make every day special for her.

My husband is quite happy here - sometimes he is frustrated but that is to be expected - it's a difficult situation for him after such an active life - he misses his customers to chat to! He is pleased with how he is treated by the staff.

My son is looked after really well and has a good relationship with staff. I can speak to nurses and management if there are problems and they are quickly resolved. It is a happy environment. I was so impressed at the weekend when all residents had to be evacuated which was done in a calm and efficient
way, the staff and management all came in to help they were excellent and professional, A big well done to all. We have been to other care homes and this is the best.

I cannot fault this care home in any way. The staff are so friendly, and all go out of their way to be kind and patient; all have a high level of understanding of complex health needs, always providing a person-centred approach. My father was treated with the utmost dignity throughout his palliative
journey. He had a homely, spacious bedroom with an ensuite shower room. He loved spending time in the garden looking at the flowers and birdlife and participating in activities, especially painting. We cannot thank everyone at Hawthorns enough and consider them all an extended part of our family.
Reply from Mary Tasker, Home Manager at The Hawthorns Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to write this review; we really appreciate it. Condolences to you and your family; your father will always be remembered here by us all.

My husband was transfered to Hawthorns as needing nursing care in August 2021. Since his admission, the staff have done their very best to meet his needs in a professional manner despite my husband not always being cooperative due to his advanced dementia. The staff have supported my daughter and myself
in visiting him and have been open to discussions in relation to his care.

I believe going to care is too personal to recommend. During my wife's stay at the Hawthorns, the staff made every effort to ensure that she was treated with respect, kindness, compassion and love. "She was like a sister to me" was what it said and she was treated equally the same. During her final
days, professional nursing care was of the highest standard. I'm forever grateful.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.309)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.309) out of 10 for The Hawthorns Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.534 for The Hawthorns Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (79 Excellents x 5) + (43 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 131 Ratings = 4.534
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.775 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Hawthorns Nursing Home is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 46 registered maximum number of service users is 9.2, which has been reached with 11 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
