What a wonderful bunch of people! We cannot thank you enough for all your kindness and care. Your support, friendly chats and passing smiles made such a difference to our dear Mum in her final year. It was so reassuring for us to know she was so well looked after.
Also, a huge thank you for putting
up with our daily visits, with food parcels, laughs and tears. We miss you.
Reply from Julie Barraclough, Manager at Mowbray Nursing HomeThank you so much; it was an absolute pleasure, to care for your Mum and what a lady she was, we miss her deeply, but she will never be forgotten. Our dear Mum received palliative care at Mowbray Nursing Home for the last 10 weeks of her life after being transferred from St Richards Hospice. The staff at the home provided excellent care with dignity and compassion. Nursing staff always did their best to keep Mum as comfortable as possible with
her progressing illness. Staff always kept our family fully informed of any changes in health or medication adjustments. Staff also gave emotional support with empathy to my Dad and ourselves too.
Mum had a pleasant room which looked out to the rear garden. The home is kept spotless at all times and the meals are all freshly cooked. The in-house laundry service was excellent and freshly laundered items were always delivered to Mum with a smile. Nothing seems too much trouble for staff who all work tirelessly to do their best to tend to residents needs. In Mum's last few days the excellent nursing care gave Mum a peaceful end for which as a family we shall always be grateful.
Reply from Julie Barraclough, Manager at Mowbray Nursing HomeDear Laura, Thank you so very much for the kind words; it means the world to the staff here at Mowbray. We were blessed and honoured to care for your beautiful mother. It was truly wonderful, to see the love you all had for each other and that will remain with us always. My late wife spent the final 2 months of her life in palliative care at Mowbray for terminal cancer. The care, compassion and understanding she and myself received was outstanding.
All staff showed a genuine commitment to giving the very best care and treatment for my wife.
In her final few challenging
days, the support for both my wife and myself was all I could have hoped it would be.

A family atmosphere is apparent when visiting the home. Residents are cared for by friendly professional staff and treated with dignity. My Mum was well cared for and encouraged to join in a range of activities, available most days. She enjoyed the daily freshly cooked food and eating with some of the
other residents in the dining room every day. I was kept up to date with information about my mum regularly and there was very much an open door policy to discuss any concerns with staff at any time. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this nursing home.

My Aunt (I also hold Power of Attorney) has lived at Mowbray for several years, - she chose there after a short post-hospital respite as she liked the food. From the outset we found the staff kind, friendly, helpful, welcoming and informative. Over recent years her condition has deteriorated and is
now completely reliant upon care. Several years later we continue to be highly satisfied with the care and attention she receives and the information provided to us as and when necessary.
Reply from Julie Barraclough, Manager at Mowbray Nursing HomeThank you Trevor; it is our privilege to care for your Aunt; she is extremely lucky to have a supportive family. Thank you for your kind words; this means a lot to all of the staff here at MowbrayKind regardsJulie

Unfortunately Dad was nearing the end of his life and needed nursing care. We knew his stay in Mowbray Nursing Home would be relatively short; you do question the decision and there were moments of doubt. However, we need not have worried. From the moment of arrival were met with kindness, compassion
and an understanding of our emotional needs. I simply cannot praise the staff highly enough. The environment was excellent and the room chosen for Dad was perfect. Being able to come and go as we pleased was such a positive, as well as knowing assistance was always close by. Nothing was too much trouble. I was very impressed by all the nursing staff. We continually had updates throughout Dad's time there. It's clear to me that a dedicated cohesive team exists at Mowbray. Special thanks to one staff member in particular, as she really put us all at ease and ensured Dad was well cared for. I will be eternally grateful for how she managed Dad's end of life and her compassion shown at the end. I will never forget her.
Reply from Julie Barraclough, Manager at Mowbray Nursing HomeThank you so very much; Your words and praise means so much to all of the staff here at Mowbray; it is never easy to face the final stages of life and nothing prepares you for this difficult journey. It was our pleasure to care for your wonderful father and we are always here if you wish to visit us I will pass on your special thanks.Love to you and the familyRegards

My father was at Mowbray for almost a year and no one could have wished for a better end to his life. Everyone treated him with unfailing kindness, compassion and good humour and he effectively found himself part of a new and welcoming family. The staff were always available to keep us up to date with
his condition: this was always done with great professionalism and warmth; nothing was ever too much trouble.
My thanks go to every single one of the team for everything they did for my father. We were fortunate to find Mowbray and he was fortunate to spend his last year there.

We would like to thank everyone at Mowbray for the excellent care my father received during his last year. We could not have wished for a better, more caring environment than Mowbray. The staff made the effort to really get to know my father and would often call into his room just for a chat or to check
on him. We know he really appreciated these visits as he would always talk about them and pass on all the latest news to us. During his final days, he was given the comfort and reassurance he needed and he died peacefully with a nurse at his side. We could not have asked for more. Thank you all.

Providing a review of my mother's stay at Mowbray Court is a pleasure. I always come away after visiting feeling all was well and even though she was bedridden she was getting the best of care in a very homely environment. The staff were exceptionally kind and cheerful and the leaders in charge were
most supportive in realising the needs of individual patients and in keeping everything running smoothly. It was greatly reassuring that everything was immaculately clean and my mother was attended to promptly at all times. The home is located on a very quiet, safe and attractive road and fronted by a spectacular garden. Last but not least the food is cooked on-site and my mother found it most enjoyable. Mowbray is a very special place if you have a loved one in need of care.

My mother was at Mowbray for just over 2 years. She enjoyed her time there which was because all the staff were so friendly. They worked hard to satisfy Mum's regular calls for help even though she would often forget why she called for them. The room was kept very clean and tidy which enjoyed a nice
view over the garden. I applaud the staff's professionalism.

My mother was a resident at Mowbray Nursing Home from October 2022 until her passing in September 2023. She was originally in the Residential Care Unit and then as her health deteriorated moved into Nursing Care.
Throughout her stay, I was extremely happy with the way she was cared for by staff. Most
of the staff have been at Mowbray for many years, i.e. ten to fifteen years or more. Very little reliance is put on agency support.
All the staff are very friendly, from cleaners to catering and laundry.
Medical care is excellent with a strong interaction with the local GP surgery.
They are very good at keeping relatives informed of developments and any changes to medication and/or care needs.
The care and support my mother received in her last days were exceptional as was the contact and support I also received at that time.
Reply from Julie Barraclough, Manager at Mowbray Nursing HomeThank you, Peter, for your kind words; it means a lot to all the staff here at Mowbray. It was an absolute pleasure to care for your mother and she was so blessed to have you as her son. She will always remain in our hearts and we are always here for you if ever you need us.

Staff are very friendly and helpful. A little concerned that when resident presses the alarm call often it's 5-10 minutes before staff arrive to attend to resident - rather too long to wait in an emergency eg; after a fall or if needing the bathroom.
Glad to see that the garden is being tidied up
and the trees cut back.
Rooms need to be tidied up next - lick of paint, new curtains in room.
Reply from Julie Barraclough, Manager at Mowbray Nursing HomeThank you taking time to review our services; we are always happy to answer any questions in person; email or over the phone. Management monitor the call bell system on the daily walk around and have observed staff to answer the bell within less than 1 minute. We would like to reassure you that there are different audible levels of alarm sounds; Emergency Alarm; Pressure Sensor Alarm; Assistance Alarm and General Alarm all with a unique sound which alerts staff to prioritise to those at risk; we have found this to be effective in reducing falls. Thank you for the compliment of the grounds it looks amazing; regarding the internal works; there is a program of refurbishment; unfortunately during Covid we struggled like most people to get supplies from merchants; but are pleased to say this is no longer a concern and improvements are underway by the maintenance team and external contractors.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.609)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.609) out of 10 for Mowbray Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.759 for Mowbray Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (123 Excellents x 5) + (32 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 158 Ratings = 4.759
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mowbray Nursing Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
