A truly excellent care and nursing home! Father lived at Mowbray for 2 years until his death at the age of 97. All the staff were kind and caring, but more than that they were all something even rarer, extremely competent. They focused on their residents and did whatever was needed exactly when it was
needed, skilfully and reliably. A somewhat quirky conversion of a fine old house; don’t let that put you off, my father really appreciated the care he was given, and we could not have wished for better.
Reply from Julie Barraclough, Manager at Mowbray Nursing HomeThank you Derek, your kind words mean more than you can imagine, it was an absolute pleasure to care for your father, who was also well supported by his wonderful family; he will be greatly missed but will be forever in our hearts. Julie, Hita and the Team.

My mum has been a resident at Mowbray for 14 months. She went into care with reluctance and obviously great apprehension.
From day 1 all members of the staff have given her every support to settle her into her new home, and that is exactly how it feels. The overriding feeling when I visit mum is of
warmth friendliness and care. Not only do they support mum, but also they are very supportive of the whole family. At this extremely worrying and difficult time, that care is appreciated more than ever.

I visited quite a few homes before entering my mother into Mowbray.
It was by far the best.
She settled in quickly among the friendly carers overseen by an empathetic manager and staff.
There are no nasty smells, the food is excellent and plentiful, a social life is encouraged and music etc planned.
Her room is beautiful and light and airy with sliding doors onto the garden and the car parks, giving my mother something to watch.
The resident nurse is very understanding of old age and the problems it brings and no one is ever too busy to spare time for relatives and residents.
Everywhere is clean and uncluttered and when you enter you get a feel of a happy community spirit.
The manager quietly and efficiently oversees all and throughout it all retains a sense of humour and optimism.
I am confident that my mother is in safe, kind hands at Mowbray.

Since moving to Mowbray in Feb 2014, our mother has been very well cared for and her nursing needs met at a very high standard. Her room is clean and tidy and well maintained. Staff are always friendly and approachable. We are informed of any important information in good time. Food is good and served
promptly with a smile. All her needs are met to a high standard. Then staff at Mowbray ensure a pleasant, homely and professionally run establishment at all times. Would live here myself.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.609)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.609) out of 10 for Mowbray Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.759 for Mowbray Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (123 Excellents x 5) + (32 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 158 Ratings = 4.759
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mowbray Nursing Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
