I have found Elmhurst Care Home to be of an excellent standard with regard to all aspects of care. I would definitely recommend Elmhurst. The staff are wonderful, the care is brilliant and I'll always be grateful for the five-star service they gave my husband.

Mum spent the last 18 months of her life at Elmhurst and she loved it. Though initially reluctant to leave her home she settled quickly. The management, staff and carers at Elmhurst really do care and it shows. Mum was treated with respect and dignity and above all great kindness. She enjoyed the food,
much of it home-grown and benefited greatly from the opportunities to socialise. Though naturally shy, with gentle encouragement she began to enjoy the small group activities, crafts and quizzes and she made friends. After only a few weeks there we noticed an improvement in her general health and well-being. We were always impressed by the cleanliness and general decoration of Elmhurst, Mum appreciated it too and loved her generously proportioned room. Her possessions were respected and her clothes were nicely laundered. Mum was cared for with love and kindness right to the end. We knew that and so did she. My heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Elmhurst.

My father, who suffered from Alzheimer's, was in Elmhurst for the final year of his life, and apart from wishing he could have stayed at home, which had sadly become impossible, I could not have wished for him to have been in a better place. In stark contrast to two other homes he spent time in, Elmhurst
is super clean and doesn't smell (pretty amazing in a dementia wing). The rooms are well-appointed and comfortable, and the whole place is newly refurbished and has a light and airy feel. The staff are all lovely and treated him with kindness, good humour and respect. He wasn't an easy patient, but they worked out ways of coping with him, and when I visited, I found him comfortable and content. In previous homes, he had been climbing the walls desperate to get out but he never once asked to go home from Elmhurst. He was clearly happy and settled there. Having had an experience of three care homes, I can thoroughly recommend this one. It is in a league of its own.

On behalf of my family we can’t thank everyone at Elmhurst enough for everything they do for my Nan. After initially worrying about the change of moving into a care home, my Nan is the happiest we’ve seen her in a long time. All the staff are amazing and would do anything for my Nan and us as a family.
In the situation we’re left in, Elmhurst has gone above and beyond for the residents and families. They have set up a way to communicate to our loved ones. Speaking to my Nan over video chat meant the world with out being able to see her in person.

Elmhurst is an amazing care home. Since my Mother in Law moved in, almost a year ago, she has received the very best of care and always treated with compassion and respect. All staff are wonderful - cheerful, highly professional and committed to ensuring that residents reach their potential. It is not
easy putting a relative with dementia into a care home but our family "rest easy" knowing that Mum feels loved and safe. The physical environment is lovely - light and airy, yet homely, with wonderful views from lounges. Always spotlessly clean. Cannot recommend Elmhurst highly enough.

A beautiful place to be inside and out.
Staff are so friendly and caring. Mum has settled in really well. It's like a family to the residents and their family.
No quick turnover of staff so residents see the same people regularly.

My father was admitted in July 2019, after a bed becoming available via social services and top up by family. I cannot thank the management and staff enough for their support, kindness and excellent care.
It has been excellent and trustworthy.
As you can imagine, the transition for my mum and dad
has been hard but if it wasn't for this care home giving 100% care and support, they would have found it hard, but didn't.

Having been forced to find a care home for my father, I had to look at a few and select the one I felt to be suitable for him. Following a visit to Elmhurst at Prees, I felt this was the one where I could cope with visiting Dad. No smell that I experienced in all the other homes, relaxed people, lovely
staff, I too was made to feel at home. The following months have proved this to be an outstanding home, fantastic care, first-class staff, and great management. Dad is now walking with a frame and has improved dramatically after leaving hospital and having Elmhurst care. Elmhurst is approx 50 mile round trip for me and I try to visit daily, but this is about Dads care not the distance it is from me.

On behalf of our family we cannot recommend Elmhurst Care Home more highly. They cared for Mum for a relatively short time however the patience, kindness and thoughtfulness of their care was very much appreciated, making the end of her life peaceful. The environment is calm, immaculately clean and filled
with smiling faces. We visited frequently over the last month at different times of the day and night and always saw residents treated with dignity and respect.


The nursing staff are skilled and responsive. There are regular care staff who are friendly, approachable and obviously very well trained, there was always someone available to talk to who were up to date with Mum's needs. The equipment, bathrooms, beds, furniture, wheelchairs and hoists were all of excellent quality and available to meet residents' needs. They got the big things right but also the little things too like tone of voice and talking to Mum directly even when she was unable to understand or express her opinions.

I am writing to say what an excellent nursing home Elmshurst at Prees, Shropshire is. My Father was staying there from 27th February 2019 until he passed away on the 16th March.
The care and attention he received was above and beyond expected, the staff are so caring and treat the residents with much
respect and dignity. The whole place is like a 5 star hotel.
I will certainly recommend Elmshurst to everyone.

I have visited my sister twice, December 2018 and February 2019. I visited her at another Care Home in August 2018. The improvement in care provided is striking. Now her hair is cared for, at the previous home it had been lank and untended. Her clothes are her own, at the other home she often was
wearing someone else's clothes.


Staff at Elmhurst were friendly and attentive creating an atmosphere of calm gentleness enhanced by fresh decor.


My sister's room had family photographs that I recognised from her own home. It seemed to be truly her room.


I felt that the staff treated my sister with dignity and respect, exemplified by the staff facilities, rather than taking the easy option of suggesting I used the en suite. My sister would not have been able to give consent for me to use her toilet.


Equally impressive was the pet friendliness. My rescue dog is responsive to the atmosphere and responds well to calm; she was happy even in this new place.

Mum was admitted to Elmhurst for palliative care in September 2018. As a family, we have been thrilled with the personal care and attention afforded to Mum throughout her stay. The management team and staff at all levels have been magnificent, demonstrating great kindness to Mum and at all times welcoming
to the family. We have been delighted with the progress made by Mum and feel that this is testimony, both to the professionalism and personal qualities of the staff. Mum certainly enjoys a good deal of banter with her carers! Elmhurst offers a wide range of activities and Mum is unable to join in at present. However, the staff ensure that she does not feel isolated. All in all, it's been a heartwarming experience to date.

I had been looking for respite care for my mum-in-law and had visited 9 care homes. Many of the staff were lovely and the rooms great but there was always something that made me keep looking. Within minutes of seeing Elmhurst and meeting the manager, it was obvious this was somewhere special.
Mum-in-law
stayed for 3 weeks and I cannot speak highly enough of the care she received. The staff and management really care and provide as near a ‘home from home’ atmosphere as possible. Mum was treated with dignity and kindness and said the staff were lovely and that she felt she was being ‘looked after”.
The refurbishment has been done to a high standard and whilst still practical it is stylish and comfortable for the residents. Both rooms and clothing are kept immaculately.
For me, Elmhurst is head and shoulders above other care homes I visited and I would not hesitate to recommend.

When searching for a care home for my friend, my first impression of Elmhurst was of a lovely place being refurbished with love and care.
Having now seen how my dearest friend was treated with every bit of much love and care, I have nothing but admiration both for the management and indeed every single
member of staff.
My friend grew to love and trust them all and they made the last few months of her life both comfortable and as happy as possible.
Her end of life care was exemplary.
I have told my daughter that if I ever become too difficult to manage she is to send me there.
I couldn't go anywhere better.

I cannot speak too highly about the staff, very friendly and courteous. The home is privately owned and from the owner down, this is reflected through the staff. The home is being refurbished to a really good standard. My mother always remarks on how nice the food is, the rooms are cleaned regularly
and mums clothes are always kept neat and tidy.

Mum was only with you for 9 days - yet I can honestly say she was treated with the respect, professional care and kindness as if she were a member of your own family and for that, we will always be grateful. The refurbished building is going to be fantastic and in such a beautiful rural setting. But
it is the new management that makes the difference. I cannot praise the staff enough.


From the initial assessment to the last few hours of our mother’s life, you were all amazing. I know that mum received the best of care. The manager, well I shall never forget the way you spoke to mum, with great sympathy and tenderness, yet with clarity and professionalism. You also knew how desperately tired and of course heart-broken we were and you helped us through that tortuous process with compassion too. What an incredible job. This is such a sad time in anyone’s life. I’d like other families to know that their loved one will be looked after in a tremendously supportive and compassionate environment.

The care is wonderful, the staff are perfect, the management is first class.
Since the home has been refurbished it has created a very homely atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.

Since the new owners and management took control of Elmhurst, it is clear to see that they have a passion for what they do and the way they treat their residents. They came in with plans to refurbish the home and have just moved their current residents into the 1st refurbished wing. The quality and
standard of work carried out is extremely good. My Mum loves her new room and along with the new technology they have incorporated into the refurbishment, I am happy in my mind that she is living in a safe, secure and friendly environment where her dignity is respected at all times. The staff at the home are very caring and nothing seems to much trouble for them. The second phase of the refurbishment is now underway and the new owners should be commended for the way they have raised the standards of the home. I would not have any problem recommending Elmhurst to anyone looking for residential care.

Job Title: Registered Manager

Elmhurst Care Home is managed and led by Mrs. Paula Riley. Paula has many years’ experience within the health care sector; over 20 years as a Registered Mental Health Nurse. Paula is both a Registered Mental Health Nurse and holds a degree in Specialist Practitioner in Community Health Nursing. Paula’s career has focused on working with older people with mental health needs in hospital, care homes, and community-based services, including assessing and reviewing clients with complex health care needs on behalf of the NHS, and working as a Registered Manager within a small care setting. Paula’s experience and knowledge underpins her passion and commitment to working with older people and providing a high level of care.
