Our Mum has been a resident at Cedar Court for two years, and despite ongoing deterioration and progression of Alzheimer's and vascular dementia, her dignity has always been maintained, and as a family, we are happy with the care Mum receives. When we have raised any concerns, these have been addressed
promptly with reassurance, and satisfactory outcomes. The staff are approachable and listen; staff communicate with family to update of any changes to Mum's condition.

Over the last 18 months, I have noticed a big improvement in every area. The staff are better informed and trained. They are always available to talk to and listen to any concerns. My husband needs constant care of a 1:1 and these staff are much improved. I used to have to explain his condition other
than dementia, but now they are always well informed. Permanent nursing staff have made a huge difference. Not only in their professionalism and competence but are also extremely compassionate. The food is of a better standard with a variety of choices on offer. With the employment of a full-time activities person, the atmosphere is good and the residents are generally encouraged and are offered a range of different things to do. My overall assessment is one of a well-run unit.

Surprised that Mum's pillowcase was torn. Longe is very smelly. We think they are understaffed as there aren't any carers on duty in the longe. In fact, we witnessed a fall recently and no-one was there. That said, the majority of staff are friendly, caring and seem to be knowledgeable and confident
as regards their duties. However, a couple of the staff are very abrupt and rude, one is a senior member of staff!! Which is the reason for our poor review.

Carers, cleaners, nurses and receptionists have all been very patient with this family! They all certainly know what they are doing and to a high standard - we had a few hiccups to start with but head nurses have been very supportive of our dilemma. Dad is very well cared for; so well in fact that I
couldn't envisage him anywhere else. I made a good choice for him.

This is the best care home my sister has been in, and she is well looked after. The staff are very professional, and they have the experience to deal with her behaviour.
There are activities for the residents to do and there is a nice community. It would be helpful if there were more trips out.

My sister and I, as with so many other relatives, were desperately worried about finding the best nursing home for mum. With Cedar Court we have got the best. We now know that mum is secure happy and has outstanding care. Cedar Court is a bright, caring home. The reception staff have a very sunny approach,
the carers are superb, always confident and yet relaxed.

The manager is always on hand to help with any questions. The activities are fun and yet designed for all residents. We leave each visit knowing that mum could not be in a better place. Many thanks to all.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.317)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.317) out of 10 for Cedar Court Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.617 for Cedar Court Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (51 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 81 Ratings = 4.617
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cedar Court Nursing Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

"I have been the registered manager at Cedar Court Nursing Home since 2000, having started my career here in 1987. I have enjoyed those 34 years immensely. I qualified as a registered nurse in 1979 at Burton Hospital, fulfilling a lifelong ambition. I decided I wanted to be a nurse when I was four years old. Initially, I worked on the geriatric ward at Burton, followed by training as a midwife. I took a break after the birth of my first son, but returned to my calling when I started work at Cedar Court.

During my working life at Cedar Court, I have been able to recognise the passion that started when I was very young; to care for people. Cedar Court has enabled me to follow this calling in every way imaginable. It is such a special place for me, and this is enhanced by the team of dedicated staff who I work alongside. In my role as Home Manager I am able to maintain close contact with the staff and join them in the care we deliver to improve the daily lives of those entrusted to us. In my personal life I am married to John. He is the reason I can commit to my work, as he supports me every step of the way. I was able to return to work six weeks after the birth of my second son 24 years ago, as he was there to care for him. I live quite locally in a small village, but do not drive so John is also my chauffeur. My career has become a family affair in some ways! I feel honoured to be working for Cedar Court and have lots of fond memories over the years. This is complimented by my family life when I can spend time gardening, going fishing with my husband and enjoying the countryside. I feel so lucky to have recognised my dream, the majority of which has been at Cedar Court."
