"I have been the registered manager at Cedar Court Nursing Home since 2000, having started my career here in 1987. I have enjoyed those 34 years immensely. I qualified as a registered nurse in 1979 at Burton Hospital, fulfilling a lifelong ambition. I decided I wanted to be a nurse when I was four years old. Initially, I worked on the geriatric ward at Burton, followed by training as a midwife. I took a break after the birth of my first son, but returned to my calling when I started work at Cedar Court.
During my working life at Cedar Court, I have been able to recognise the passion that started when I was very young; to care for people. Cedar Court has enabled me to follow this calling in every way imaginable. It is such a special place for me, and this is enhanced by the team of dedicated staff who I work alongside. In my role as Home Manager I am able to maintain close contact with the staff and join them in the care we deliver to improve the daily lives of those entrusted to us. In my personal life I am married to John. He is the reason I can commit to my work, as he supports me every step of the way. I was able to return to work six weeks after the birth of my second son 24 years ago, as he was there to care for him. I live quite locally in a small village, but do not drive so John is also my chauffeur. My career has become a family affair in some ways! I feel honoured to be working for Cedar Court and have lots of fond memories over the years. This is complimented by my family life when I can spend time gardening, going fishing with my husband and enjoying the countryside. I feel so lucky to have recognised my dream, the majority of which has been at Cedar Court."
