Stanley House is located about ten minutes from Derby city centre on the corner of Duffield Road and Stanley Close.

It provides a high standard of nursing care and cares for 42 long and short-stay residents.

The care home has two comfortably furnished lounges, separate dining areas and a heated sun lounge where residents can relax and enjoy the gardens.

There is a team of activity facilitators who provide a varied programme of activities designed to appeal to a wide range of interests.

We are able to accept residents living with dementia, but are not dementia-specialist Care Homes. We specialise in the provision of End of Life Care.

The welcome when our mum arrived was exceptional. The care in every aspect of her stay has continued to be excellent. All of her needs have been catered for with kindness and expertise. We have been consulted on all the stages of her care. She is very happy with her life at the home as are we.

Happy with the care my Dad is receiving, all the staff are friendly and caring. he is happy in the home, likes his room and joins in some of the daily activities when possible. Bedroom - bathroom is too small, no room to turn around/sit on the toilet comfortably.

I found the staff very very good indeed, though often rushed off their feet. A lot of foreign staff who are paid rather low wages.
The room was not satisfactory, a bell outside, a lift on the outside, a stock room up above the room which was extremely loud at times, many times actually. This room should
not be used for a patient!

My husband spent approximately a month at Stanley House after 2 spells in hospital. I can't praise the home highly enough from whatever angle you are looking at it, all the categories detailed below were excellent. My husband will certainly return there if his needs warrant it.

My dad was cared for at Stanley House for just under 4 weeks at the end of his life. The care Dad received was excellent. All staff were friendly and respectful and they cared for dad with great dignity. Dad always looked beautifully looked after and he was peaceful and comfortable. At no point did
I have any concerns about Dad's care and this allowed us to sit with dad with no worries as his life ended. Stanley House was very well organised and all staff were very professional. Stanley House very much felt like a home and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. Thank you to Stanley House for looking after dad so well in the last few weeks of his life.

Though our expereince with Stanley House lasted only a few days, we cannot fault the care and comfort that our loved one received in his final days. From the moment we stepped into the home, we were greeted with reassurance, guidance and a sense of real care. We were never made to feel that any question
was too big and never felt rushed to make any decisions. Instead, we were supported by a dedicated nursing team, who walked the final journey with us. Even when our loved one passed, the respect and reverence that he was shown was unmatched. We were given the space to grieve, and say goodbye and each next step was explained delicately. On the first enquiry, the manager was very welcoming and helpful, also while we were trying to sort out a different payment scheme with the council. We felt the staff seemed more interested in interacting with the residents than we'd noticed in all other care homes we'd visited. We were very happy with
the care my mother received and would recommend Stanley House to others.

Mum was in Stanley House for only 8 months in that short time the management and staff went above and beyond to attend to all her needs, nothing was too much trouble. They were always friendly, polite, professional and respectful. They kept us informed at all stages. Also entering the home it had a
very calming atmosphere, it's rather like being in a five-star hotel. The rooms are well-decorated and cosy. There is a great activity team who organise a wide range of programmes which the residents and families can take part in and have fun together. Good choice of meals on the daily menu board. Laundry service provided, what more could you want, I would recommend Stanley House.

All of the team took time to get to know him personally, and they always treated him with kindness, dignity and respect. He loved his time with you all, and nothing

Dad was only at Stanley House for a few weeks on end-of-life care. However, he could not have been looked after better; his care during his time there was exemplary.
As a family, we were kept up to date with every stage of his situation and medical needs, and everything was explained clearly. Nothing
was too much trouble, and all the staff were very caring and totally professional.
We could not have wanted anything better for our dad's last days.

The entertainment programme sets Stanley House apart from other homes we considered. The dedicated entertainment staff do a great job of getting the residents involved in different activities and keeping them moving and engaging in something other than just sitting and watching TV. Overall, the staff
all work hard and are friendly.
I would like to see a bit more attention to small things, such as making sure residents actually drink what is put in front of them rather than leaving them to do it themselves when some need help.

My experience of Stanley House was overall a very positive one. The staff were always very attentive and kind. I always felt that nothing was too much trouble, and queries and concerns were always addressed very rapidly. My mum was happy in Stanley House, and I would recommend this home to anyone looking

My mum was only at Stanley House for a very short time, but during her stay, she was looked after very well. The staff were all very kind, considerate and attentive, and nothing was too much trouble for them. I was always made welcome, and the nurses always made time to update me on my mum. The only
thing I can find to complain about, and it's not really a complaint, is that the bedrooms really do need an update.

Mum had a short stay. Nice room. Although Mum was not able to engage in activities, she was always included. Care and dignity were my priorities for Mum, which was excellent. Staff friendly and approachable. Happy place. Thank you.

My mum received loving care from attentive and kind staff who were happy to help at any time of the day or night.
Mum loved the home-cooked food which helped her to get her appetite back, as well as the company of the staff and residents and the interesting and stimulating activities.
Mum especially
enjoyed the singing (and the professional singers) her words were 'we had a good afternoon'. The family thank all the staff at Stanley House for their support and care of our Mum. Thank you.

Karen

Karen Jenkinson

Job Title: Registered Manager

Karen has been the Registered Manager for 14 years. She qualified as a Registered Nurse in Derby in 1986 and has since worked for many years in Elderly Care and also Brain Injury Rehab.


Karen works closely alongside Senior Nurse Manager Katty Bailey in leading the teams at both Stanley House, and Abbeydale.


When she is not at work, Karen spends time at her allotment, has 2 Siamese cats, and enjoys holidaying in Cyprus where she has adopted a puppy from. She has 4 grandchildren. Karen is proud of the fact she managed to tandem paraglide off a very high mountain in Turkey!


Karen always has a very ‘open-door’policy, a ‘hands-on approach’ and wants the best for the residents and all the staff in her team. The Activities Team say that “they feel that they are valued and supported role across the whole team because of the enthusiasm and encouragement of Karen”.

Job Title: Senior Nurse Manager

Katty is our Senior Nurse Manager; she supports the Registered Manager, Karen, in leading the team across Abbeydale and Stanley House.


Katty was born in Sweden and came to the UK in 1994 as an Au-Pair, she then trained as a nurse in Suffolk and qualified in 1999. She has had a varied career, including a large proportion of her time spent working in Public Health and in 2016 decided to move into Health and Social Care and take up a post in a Nursing Home. She joined the team at Abbeydale and Stanley House in 2018.
Katty is passionate about delivering safe and effective care to residents. She enjoys working with the staff to ensure everyone is treated as an individual with kindness and respect.


One of our Deputy Managers says “the nurses find Katty knowledgeable and approachable. I personally find her knowledgeable and a calming influence and a great support in my development as a Deputy Manager”.
Time away from work Katty enjoys going away in her motorhome, walking the dog, and riding her bike. Katty also loves cooking and socialising with friends. Katty has also been involved in many fundraising events over the years, including organising local fun dog shows.

Claire Coles

Job Title: Administrator

Claire is an Admin and has worked across our Care Homes for almost 5 years.


Claire has worked in various roles previously including Learning Disability Services, Supported
Employment, Secondary School Children, Homeless and Rough Sleepers Team and at Extra Care
Schemes.


Claire oversees the majority of administrative functions within the home to ensure that the business
is administered in a professional manner which also assists the Managers in the smooth running of
the home.


Claire keeps the office and wider teams fully informed of matters relating to the home and she is the
first point of contact for visitors and telephone enquiries, fostering a professional and caring image
of the home.
Claire also manages the selection and recruitment for both homes.


Claire says: ‘’This role is completely different to any previous role undertaken as it is mostly office based with a lot of time spent using a computer. The role is really varied and no two days are the same and I really do have to know a little about everything!’’


‘’I am a Mum to two children and in my spare time, I like to upcycle and attempt DIY!! ‘’
