All staff were extremely kind and considerate, the accommodation was good, the food was good, well cooked and presented, the care workers were all very knowledgeable and the physiotherapy department was excellent. I wish them well in the future, and have my full support too.

My husband was admitted to this far below standard Care Home. We can honestly say that the attention from the staff was brief and he had to wait a very long time when he called for attention of a personal nature. Personal hygiene of a morning was scanty and I had to attend to this myself. Most of the
staff were pleasant but we felt needed more in-depth training to achieve the standard of care that they were expected to deliver. Communication was pretty much nonexistent. A complaint to the Area Manager took three days for a result and I had to ask for the outcome. My husband was not given the opportunity to explain his side and it was dismissed. He was mortified to have not been believed. The entire home is far from clean in all areas, which we found very distasteful and there was a very unpleasant odour throughout. I hope no one else has to suffer the way my husband did as it has had a very traumatic effect on his life. Needless to say, he is now home and happy with his loving family.
Reply from Lydia Gardner, Area manager at Homer Lodge Care CentreWe welcome reviews both positive and negative. We are sorry you feel the care home didn't meet your expectations. We will take on board the feedback you have given, and use it in a positive way for the future. Thank you for taking the time to write the review. We wish you and your husband the very best for the future.

Homer Lodge Care Centre staff have looked after my husband with kindness and respect. They are a very friendly team, mostly young people who are a credit to their generation. The more mature staff have also treated us as a family visiting Homer Lodge with kindness and understanding. Well done each and
every one of you.

Whenever I visited, which was days in the week or weekend the home was the clean, warm, and calming environment - staff friendly, caring and attentive to residents. Food, my mum loved the food. Mum loved the staff, having a laugh and banter together. It was a difficult decision to place Mum in a care
home after a hip fracture. She went for respite care and stayed 18 months until she sadly passed away. I would recommend this care home heartily.

I came to Homer Lodge Care Centre on the 8th of February from hospital for rehabilitation after having influenza, on arriving to leaving on the 20th of March I have been very well looked after. The staff are all lovely and caring and treated me amazingly, nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are well-equipped
and comfortable and the food is excellent. I will miss everyone and wish I could take them all home with me. The team are very hard working and should get the praise they deserve for the time and effort they put in.

My Mother was recently placed in Homer Lodge from the hospital.
We live 40 miles away.
Every time we phoned to ask how she was we were told what do you want to know no telephone etiquette and we’re quite rude.
When we visited we had made an appointment to see someone, we could discuss my mother
my mothers care.
The door was answered by a handyman not wearing a mask.
Asked to sign in and show Covid pass.
We were taken to her room. He came back and said he’d forgotten Mum was in isolation so gave us an apron and gloves.
Spoke to the person in charge who said there wasn’t a room to go in, so she discussed my mother in the corridor with staff walking past all the time.
It was never a permanent placement.
Really disappointed about everything about the place.
Poor standard of care, wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

My father died recently of old age and opportunistic infection having spent his last seven years in Homer Lodge.
He went there straight from hospital having failed to look after himself safely after my mother died. When it was decided that he needed continuing care he begged to be allowed to stay in
the same place and his wish was granted. He stayed in the same well-appointed room - his OWN room - for almost all his stay.
The senior staff were constant good friends for him. The medical care was careful, kind and caring: he had a chaotic diabetic problem that required constant monitoring. The junior staff, even when staff turnover was brisk, were all well trained and capable and Dad took to them easily as they came and went.
The continuing social contact kept him mentally lively and suitably socially challenged.
I live 50 miles from the home and so wasn't capable of just dropping in but was kept in constant touch by phone.
The best thing I can say is that Dad was very happy there.
Reply from Mary French, PA to Operations Manager - Halcyon Care at Homer Lodge Care CentreOn behalf of the manager and the team at Homer Lodge, we would like to express our gratitude for taking the time to leave such a lovely review on the care received by your late father. My mother was unfortunately sent to this "care home" straight out of the hospital.
She was released back home in a disgusting state!
As a family, we are absolutely appalled at how badly let down we are with the "care" she didn’t receive.
We are absolutely heartbroken.
If anyone is reading this
and looking at the CQC report please look at the caring report!
Surely no one wants a loved one to have to go into somewhere where the "caring" report says needs improvement.
We didn’t have a choice where she went but if we did I would not have been in this awful place.
Reply from Mary French, PA to Operations Manager - Halcyon Care at Homer Lodge Care CentreWe are concerned at the review posted but would thank Rebecca J for taking the time to post this review.
We are very sorry to hear that Rebecca feels that her mother did not receive a high standard of care during her short stay with us. We would like to reassure you that we welcome feedback of any nature and we are investigating the points raised. All our residents are important to us and delivering a high standard of care is our main priority. Once again please accept our apologies and assurance that your concerns are being investigated and any findings will be actioned.

My father became a resident after having a serious fall in December 2018 after spending time in hospital, we were told he would receive physio by occupational health. This was very short-lived, there seems to be a lack of even chair exercises, also any type of craft activities as we live away from Lincoln
and visit at various times and days, we have never seen any type of activities going on for the residents. As for the so-called garden, it's nothing more than a few plant pots with poorly kept plants and a slabbed area. I'm sorry to say I don't always find it a welcoming place, there are a few of the staff that go out of their way to be helpful.

I was in Homer Lodge from June 22nd to July 1st for rehabilitation after orthopaedic surgery on my arms. It was a strange but uplifting experience as all staff could not do enough to help me. They reassured and comforted when necessary.

My 91 year old mother in law went into Homer Lodge for transitional care a few weeks ago. She then went home but had to go back into Homer Lodge when she became very poorly and there she stayed and received end of life care. She told the staff she was happy, very comfortable and loved. We cannot praise
the staff enough for their kindness to both her and us at this very difficult time. The staff were helpful, kind, compassionate and always pleasant in their attitude to us all and went out of their way to make us feel welcome when we visited. The food was amazing, the rooms fresh, clean and bright, she was always in fresh, clean laundered clothes and her every need both nursing and caring, were met with first class professionalism. Although the outcome was a sad one we could not have got through it so well if it had not been for the staff at Homer Lodge. A huge thank you to each and everyone of the staff. You are the best.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.516)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.516) out of 10 for Homer Lodge Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.541 for Homer Lodge Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (158 Excellents x 5) + (52 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 229 Ratings = 4.541
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Homer Lodge Care Centre is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
