Gorsey Clough Nursing Home is one of the region’s most respected privately operated dementia residential and nursing care homes, offering exceptional, person-centred care for older adults.

Set within beautiful green-belt countryside, the home enjoys uninterrupted views across the surrounding landscape. A long private driveway leads to the original 19th-century house, which has been sympathetically extended over the past 30 years to provide comfortable accommodation for up to 50 residents.

The grounds are a particular highlight. Landscaped lawns and a sunken garden are carefully maintained, while a spacious rear patio provides an inviting area for residents and their families to relax and enjoy the peaceful rural setting.

Although wonderfully secluded, the home remains conveniently close to local amenities in Tottington and a short distance from Bury town centre. Excellent road links also place Bolton and Manchester within easy reach.

My mum has been at Gorsey Clough for around 8 months now, and we've been thoroughly impressed. The staff are very caring and considerate, treating all of the residents with respect and dignity. It is obvious they really do care about the residents and their job, and go above and beyond. The needs of
my mum are always met with compassion, and no task is too much for staff. Great amount of activities involved. Have never had a problem with cleanliness, very clean and tidy. Staff are always welcoming to visitors, providing good pastoral care when needed. Good to have a doctor present each week, with the option to have a hairdresser do their hair on site.

I cannot praise Gorsey Clough enough, mum has been a resident for just over a year now. It was not an easy transition for Mum or us but the staff were so supportive and welcoming to all of us. Every member of staff are genuinely friendly and truly care about the residents. They treat everyone as
family, which very much appreciated. Our family are so thankful for everything the staff do for Mum. I would highly recommend Gorsey Clough to anyone making the big decision to put your loved ones in a home. It is never an easy decision but the transition at Gorsey's helps enormously.
A MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone!

My mum spent 7 months at Gorsey after an unhappy time at another care home. She was cared for amazingly. The staff are caring, patient and loving. I was so happy she was there. In August she had a stroke and after 2 days in hospital she went back to Gorsey for end of life care. The care that she
and my family received was unbelievable. They were supportive, caring and made the whole dreadful experience a lot easier than it could have been. Myself and my family are so grateful to this amazing care home.

My mum has been a resident of Gorsey Clough, for over 4 years. The staff there go above and beyond to look after Mum's needs, which can change daily. The manager is very proud of his staff. Any problem is sorted out promptly. I couldn't ask for better, thank you all.

My husband died in Gorsey Clough on August 17th 2024. He had been in the care of the staff for 5 months and he was very well looked after. His dementia came with nighttime wanderings and daytime pacing so he needed constant surveillance. Despite Ray having some angry responses and refusing to shower
and shave regularly the caring staff always somehow gently managed to calm him down, get him to shower and get the shaving done as regularly as they could.
During his last week when he was bedridden, the staff cared for him very well and our family knew that he was never alone. We stayed with him through the night and the staff came with cups of tea and toast. His final night we were home but he was not alone when he died, as one of the staff was by his side as he took his last breath.
The family visited him regularly and none of us ever heard a raised voice from the staff, we only witnessed the kindest care of our loved one.
Staff deserve medals for doing this job with such compassion.

Thank you to everyone at Gorsey Clough Nursing Home for the outstanding support and care that was provided to my mother whilst she was there. She had to be moved from another home, which fell short on so many levels. Fortunately, we had the complete opposite experience here and couldn't have asked for
more. It is the people that make any business and here you have the most welcoming and friendly staff, who will always go above and beyond, to deliver a five-star service.

Due to my mother's rapidly deteriorating condition (end-stage cancer), she had to temporarily move into a nursing home, whilst suitable changes were made at her own home. The registered manager helped to make all the relevant arrangements to have Mum transported to Gorsey Clough and ensured that she
had a lovely room available for her stay. The nurses, health care assistants and everyone my mum came into contact with throughout her stay were absolutely wonderful. They were; extremely caring, thoughtful, responsive and kind and nothing was too much trouble. During her stay, staff would often pop in for a chat to see how she was doing, which helped to keep her spirits up, whilst the food was always varied and lovingly prepared by the resident chef. Sadly, my mum has now passed away, but if you are in the process of trying to find a suitable place for your loved one, then you can't go wrong with Gorsey Clough.

My father came to Gorsey Clough in January 2020, from another care home which hadn’t suited his needs.
My father passed away 5 days ago, the compassion, professionalism and hard work by all involved in his care was impeccable.
My father was a tricky customer in the early days as his particular dementia
was complex and made him difficult to handle at times.
There is no 'I' in team and everyone who works there plays an important part. The cooks, cleaners (the home is spotless), laundry staff (my father’s clothes would be washed and back the same day), the care staff, nurses, office staff, entertainment staff, manager, assistant manager and agency staff (hope I’ve not forgotten anybody).
One particular member of agency staff who worked with my dad for years, treated him with the utmost respect, dignity and compassion and cared for him at times, under difficult circumstances, particularly in the early days.
The end-of-life care my dad received and the support for me was 5 star.

My wife has been a resident for 8 months and I cannot speak highly enough of the staff, nurses, carers, admin and domestic, without exception they're friendly, kind, helpful and above all caring! I have observed so many small acts of kindness to residents be it a hug, kind words, or a joke - it gives
you real confidence that your loved one is in safe hands.
The manager expects high standards from his staff but also motivates them to develop their careers. He is also very responsive to the needs of relatives, my first Christmas alone he invited me and others to partake in the residents Christmas Day lunch.
There are duty boards at the entrance showing minimum and actual staffing levels and, without exception, there are more nurses and carers on duty than the minimum required. Can you imagine that being the case in a corporate-owned home? Credit to the owners who've employed an outstanding manager and backed him financially to provide an excellent caring environment.

Mum moved to Gorsey Clough in February 2022 following DTA and a long stay in Royal Bolton Hospital. It was a shock and very distressing for Mum not to be going back to her own home and it was very difficult for me to navigate what was going on as communication between Bolton Council SW, CHC and the
hospital was non-existent! It took almost 3 months to get Mum assessed and decided that she needed 24-hour nursing care. Trying to view a care home during COVID was difficult and I needed to get mum close by. I had visited Gorsey and was struck by how warm and caring the Home felt and they had assured me they would contact me if a place became available thankfully after 1 week at 4 Seasons. The transition was seamless for Mum. I find all staff, office, nursing, carers and management so welcoming and caring. Always available for any questions or help. Gorsey Clough maintains the warm caring family atmosphere while being highly professional. Cannot thank them enough.

The experience my dad has received from the very first day has been absolute first class. The care is of the very highest standard, with experienced staff who exemplify professional and patience. From the moment we selected Gorsey Clough as the place for my dad to be cared for, each and every member
of staff have made the overall experience so smooth and easy to deal with. It is always a difficult decision to have to make and so hard to choose between care homes on paper, but knowing what we do now, we certainly made the right choice and would make the exact same decision all over again. Always a horrible situation to be in having to place a loved one into someone else's care, but wouldn't hesitate to recommend Gorsey Clough if you have the unfortunate decision to make too.

My dad has been a resident at Gorsey Clough for nearly 2 years. The progress my dad has made within that time has been amazing, he has gone from being quite angry and frustrated after his stroke and losing his mobility and some short term memory loss, also at the beginning refusing to eat. He is now
a lot calmer, less frustrated, no longer on medication for depression and eats pretty much everything put in front of him. I have a lot of praise for the manager and all the staff that look after my dad from the day we viewed the home and the knowledge that the manager had about the type of stroke my dad had and the side affects and how to deal with that was very reassuring and out of the one meeting probably gave us more information than the hospital ever did. To the every day care of my dad and how they have all got to know him and know how to deal with my dad to get him to corporate on his down days and they all know his sense of humour and have a good laugh with my dad and make him smile even on a bad day.

I would just like to say thank you to the team at Gorsey Clough for looking after my grandad. Thank you for allowing our family to arrange special visits around Birthdays and special occasions. The home has a lovely atmosphere upon arrival and the staff usually go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed
as part of the Gorsey family. The parking facilities have massively improved since and the home has since started further improvements, creating a great vision of what the future holds at Gorsey. Lovely rural location with stunning bedroom window views of the farm animals. It would be nice if we could possibly add more homely individual touches to the residents' rooms if possible if health and safety allows us too as I feel this is the only small thing missing. But that's just my personal preference and it doesn't effect the rating I would give. The food looks delicious every time I visit, nice portion sizes and a good variety. Thank you for looking after him and cheering him up daily.

The care Mum receives is sensitive, supportive and engaging. The carers, nurses and whole team are kind, friendly and welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble. They work tirelessly to make sure the residents are settled and happy.
The activities have been fantastic - a visit to Blackpool and the events
throughout the year well organised and inviting. The recent Christmas Party was thoroughly enjoyed by us all.

I would highly recommend Gorsey Clough to all my friends and family should they ever need care for their loved ones. My husband has been very happy since arriving at Gorsey Clough and every time I visit him he always comments on how nice and friendly the staff are which I also agree. Nothing is ever
too much for them, they will always go that extra mile to ensure the residents are always happy. The bedrooms and other rooms within the home are nicely decorated and always clean. I also like the fact that they always include family members for special events. They provide activities for the residents and trips out, which were not provided in previous homes. My husband is so settled and knowing this I am very happy as is the rest of the family. I would like to Thank the manager and all the staff for the great care and support they provide.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.700)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.700) out of 10 for Gorsey Clough Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.950 for Gorsey Clough Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (114 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 120 Ratings = 4.95
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Gorsey Clough Nursing Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 10 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
